About this restaurant

  • Innovative
  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
Welcome to Roxanne—a brilliant, wild, revolutionary project by chef Alexandra Holt, sparked behind a purple door in South Philly two years ago. Named after her mother, Roxanne is a true labor of love. The vibe is cozy, open, and personal: with an open kitchen, you’re right in the action, catching Alexandra plating each dish and pouring her journey into every detail.

Tables are handcrafted by Alexandra and her mom, the entire space designed with their hands. Roxanne’s menu brings ‘American Expressionism’ to the plate, inspired by Alexandra’s life across 30 countries. Expect fearless flavors—seafood, a burger, caviar, organ meats; there’s nothing off-limits.

Whether you’re here for the tasting menu at reserved tables, exploring the à la carte board, or diving into the bar snacks with a drink, Roxanne is all about big, unapologetic vibes and dishes crafted with passion.

It's easier to say there are no words than to find the one that captures the restless thoughts as you devour each course. Leave your expectations at the door—the anticipation only builds as the meal begins. Our party of four was comfortably seated, and Jeremy, our server, guided us seamlessly through the menu and thoughtful drink pairings. We ordered nearly everything, and the highlights were unforgettable; the baguette (a must) is the hourglass of your meal. You"ll need it for whatever is left of the deboned chicken and tomato dish. Shrimp cocktail served in a bathtub with sauce you’ll want to bathe in (pun intended?) Shells and cheese with beef tartare, sungold tomato gnuddi from another planet (grab the baguette again), and salmon that was everything you never knew you needed— Pork with ham mustard, will make you laugh aloud but the real kicker are the shrimp dumplings that come with it. Dessert sealed the deal—a chocolate cake that ruined all others, caramel cheesecake with frozen grapes and caviar (get one to go, maybe 2 if they do that. I know I should've) , and a hot lemon butter cake with black sesame ice cream that stares back at you. This is more than a meal—it’s an escape. Take your time, enjoy the ride, and know I’ll be back, buckled in for the next round

This place rules. Had a phenomenal dinner here with my colleague. The food was bonkers. Every single dish knocked my socks off. I had to stop myself from licking the plates clean. Service was on point. Look forward to coming back with the whole squad. Best of the best.

Roxanne lunch, just like every single dinner there, was fun, playful, delicious, and amazing. The chef is incredible and our servers did an amazing job.

I’ve eaten here twice now for the a la carte and dessert tasting menus. I have been blown away each time and cannot wrap my head around how this restaurant is run by just 3 (from what I can see) people. The combo of flavors and textures in every dish is like nothing I’ve experienced before. The tasting menu may be my favorite so far, as you get to sit back and enjoy the vision of Chef Holt, which is just a joy. In particular, the corn/peach/comte and cheeseburger/tots/soft serve dishes were absolute standouts. The service is warm and attentive, the value is incredible in my opinion, and the food is one of a kind. I also look forward to seeing their cocktails improve with time, as they have just started offering them.

I am rooting for this restaurant. Been to when it was a BYOB at their previous location and was by far one of the best restaurants in the city. It is no longer BYOB and I did not see that anywhere while booking. Some other people showed up with bottles of wine that did not know either. The new restaurant menu needs work. Need to add 2 more things on both appetizer and entree. On entree a fish, beef, pork, vegetarian, poultry. The duck on the menu is exquisite. I always love and only want to patronize restaurants I can not replicate dishes they make. This cannot be replicated. The wine list and prices are a sin, sorry. PA wines for $18/19 cheapens the meal and experience. It’s likely an old sushi restaurant or yoga studio, I get construction is expensive, but need to find a way to blend the decor to create a better ambiance. Candidly, I will take this restaurant back to the old Roxanne, make it byob again, bring back the prefix, but reduce the courses. It was too much. You can make this GREAT AGAIN like the old Bibou and Django, but even better. I am rooting for this restaurant and still has huge potential so I am giving it a 3, but I’m afraid if things don’t change quickly this restaurant will not survive. That said, I recommend people to try this and give it a chance to recover.
