Now, after three years as Executive Chef of Bice in Chicago, and together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."
Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course.
What Insiders Are Saying
Classy without being overly pretentious. Riccardo Trattoria is one of our favorite Italian restaurants around.
Excellent variety and wonderful Northern Italian cooking
Always a fantastic dining experience. The food is top notch, fresh, and authentic. The dining room is simple and classic. Very quaint and inviting. Christian is an outstanding asset to a wonderfully executed restaurant. He is so welcoming, and does everything to make his guests feel special yet comfortable. A Lincoln Park staple. We will be back regularly.
Visiting from way out of town, we were looking for something special. We definitely found it here! We made it last minute reservation, arrived early and we're seated immediately. The server was incredible, and very knowledgeable about the food the wine the desserts and after dinner drinks. All the other support staff were great and the food was super good! We would definitely come back and highly recommend this restaurant!
Appetizers and meal were great except beef linguine. My husband thought is was too beefaroni tasting. My saffron risotto with seafood was fantastic. The salads and calamari were also fantastic.
The room is a little tight, but you forget all about that once the food arrives
Wonderful meal delicious food!
Phenomenal service. Authentic food. Cannot wait to come back.
The food, atmosphere and service were all excellent and they are very consistently excellent.
Disappointed after reading the good reviews. Returned the Minestrone Soup as it had absolutely no flavor. This was a harbinger of the whole meal. Average meal that did not warrant the prices. The service was polite but waitress seemed very harried. Very noisy. Would not go again as there are so many better Italian restaurants in the area.
The specials were outstanding including a squash blossom starter. It is rare to see squash blossoms on Chicago menus.
Best Italian food I've had since our trip to Italy. When you see such an extensive menu, you don't expect the food to be so amazing. Highly recommend this place & we will be coming back !
We loved this neighborhood gem. We walked in and felt like we were back in Tuscany. The food was sensational and the service very attentive. The owner was charming and welcomed us warmly. I will be back here for sure on our next visit to Chicago.
Awesome place. It feels like you are in Florence.
Divine experience eating at Riccardo’s. We own a house in Italy and know great Italian food! I can count on one hand great Italian restaurants in Chicago, and this is one of them!
Wonderful experience; prototypical neighborhood restaurant. Very good food. Atmosphere is casual & comfortable. Service was first-rate.
One of our very favorite restaurants in Chicago! The food, wine, atmosphere, and service are excellent!
The trofie pasta is the best I’ve ever had including prior visits! Always a treat! Thank you!!!
This is simply the best Italian restaurant in Chicago and quite possibly the best anywhere. This is when you understand "best" as a combination of price of the check, the quality of the food and the friendliness of the service. It is a spot for those who love and appreciate Italian food at its finest.
This is not a pizza spot or a "red sauce" place. There is one of those next door and others are to be found elsewhere in our wonderful city.
Our Mother’s Day tradition (in addition to other regular visits). It was as fabulous as always. This it’s a truly authentic Milanese trattoria, in cuisine and ambience we had three different starters (Vitiello tonato, fried sardines and arrancini - all excelllent) three different mains, but the most outstanding- as it is consistently - was the grilled branzino this is the best fish dish in Chicago, bar none. This is how they do it in Italy. excellent and very reasonable wine list. continues to be our favorite restaurant in Chicago
This is one of our favorite places. The food was very good. The service is first rate. It is a treasure.
The food was excellent, the staff very friendly, and a great wine list. Will definitely be back often!!
Food was delicious! Ambience was ok - not exceptional but nice.
Excellent Italian food! We would be happy to return, and recommend to friends.
Food was delicious. The lobster pasta was a large portion and so tasty. The meat ravioli was also fantastic. Awesome service. Highly recommend.
As always, the host was very welcoming and friendly. When we were seated, it seemed the waiter was trying to get us in/out as quickly as possible. Can you imagine a four course (appetizer/pasta/entree/dessert) being eaten within an hour and fifteen minutes. We were halfway through our pasta course and the entree appeared. We also were halfway finished with our cocktail and appetizer and the wine appeared. The waiter seemed nice - just needs to know this is not a fast food restaurant and people are coming to enjoy the exquisite cuisine Riccardo Trattoria is know for!
Fabulous loved the experience would recommend. Look forward to going back
Excellent food and a first-rate menu.
Food and service is always incredible!
We dined here on the recommendation of my brother & sister in-law. All three of us agreed that it was an excellent choice. Our food was delicious, the wait staff very attentive, & the ambience cozy. We all agreed that we’d come back.
Such a wonderful restaurant! The service was incredible and the waiter we had was very polite and was always available. The food was absolutely delicious! Portion sizes were fair for prices and they kept giving us bread which is unheard of in restaurants! Has become one of my favorites and cannot wait to return!
Excellent as always. Outstanding food and service. Creative menu combined with classics
Go here NOW! From beginning to end this was s great mean with my friends. Everything we ordered was amazing. I have been wanting to go for months based on recommendations from friends and it lived up to the hype. Our server was great snd we will definitely be back snd tell our friends! Thank you for a great dinner.
we had to wait 45 minutes for our reservation because people were enjoying visiting so they weren't leaving after paying their bill. worth the wait.
A neighborhood treasure. Always another wonderful dish to discover from the menu or from the day's specials.
Very bad table in the center of restaurant which shouldn’t be a table as people would bump into you or you could hear the couple’s conversation next to you. The eggplant appetizer was best part of meal. Wine list is kinda expensive. Entries of lasagne or Cornish chicken were solid but nothing special. Wait service was a bit erratic
Excellent, excellent food! It was as good as any meal we’ve had in Rome or Milan!
Riccardo Trattoria continues to be one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. Everything was superb!
This is my favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago. The menu is extensive. It is in a small space, and is usually packed so I recommend having a reservation.
Riccardo is always a fantastic dining experience - the food is delicious and the service is impeccable.
