One of the best meals we have ever eaten.
We were so excited to eat at Purepecha - and loved it when we walked in. There's an open kitchen where you can watch the food being made and it's a really relaxed atmosphere. You really do feel like you're in a friend's grandmother's kitchen! Each course was explained to us and each was very tasty - but lukewarm because the plating took so long to do. The kicker though was when we went to pay. During one of the final courses we were offered a glass of mezcal. The waiter/host said that the chef recommended it to go with the meal. My husband got one. It sort of seemed like it was complimentary... the host definitely did not tell us the price. Imagine our surprise when we got the bill and that teeny glass was $40!!! That really soured the night for us, which would have been fine otherwise. For a glass of alcohol at that price range, the host should advise the customers of the price. Overall, decent food but waaaayyyyy overpriced for what it is.
Grossly overpriced food and drinks. The dessert was a joke, a fried dough complemented by a film-covered warm liquid. Tasteless scraps of duck. A 'chef-recommended' spirit that turned out to be $40/glass and $30 for a vodka martini. We had 2 drinks each and ended up with a $400 bill for 2 people.
Just amazing! Go
Outstanding find. Amazing tasting menu. Every course was a winner. Small, quaint and lovely atmosphere. Hidden in the back of Revolver Taco!
Outstanding 9 course fixed price meal; it may be a bit pricey, but those courses included octopus, lobster, lamb, duck, and wagyu beef, so the price is definitely justified. Every main course was excellent, but I'll remember that lamb dish for a long time; it was phenomenal. My only complain was the flan for dessert wasn't the best texture, but I'm not a big flan fan, so I'm not the best to judge. Definitely a place to go for special occasions.
This is Dallas’ best kept secret Shh don’t tell anyone
Legitimate, delicious Mexican food with a touch of world flavors that brighten the dishes without being overwhelming. They combine rustic and urban seamlessly. The room reminded me of my Abuela’s kitchen and so did the corn tortillas. My goodness.
Simply excellent food created, presented and served with love by a family.
Food was absolutely phenomenal! Highly recommend for a special occasion.
This was the most memorable dinner we have had in years, food was savory, interesting, unusual and the intimacy of the setting was great.
Incredible food cooked with love. Go here!
This was the best meal we had all year. If you’re on the fence, book this now!
Amazing food experience. 8 courses of very creative dishes prepared using old world techniques. Service is attentive and professional. Will definitely return for another experience
This is so much more than a meal; it is an intimate experience. You will feel like you are stepping inside a family's home while being served authentic and delicious cuisine. Highly recommend!
Dining experience was AMAZING. Food was authentic.
Some of the most delicious food I've eaten in a long time. In addition, it's a fun experience to see the action in the open kitchen. Dinner and theater in one, ya know? A wonderful experience.
All I can say is that it was phenomenal. That is all.
We had a reservation at 8:30pm and were told at 8:45 another 10 minutes. By 9:35 we were still not seated and decided to leave. The other guest waiting also all left. If they had told us the truth when we first arrived, we would have left earlier and gotten food somewhere else. The chef never even came out to apologize to the 10 people waiting for dinner. We’d heard great things about this place but very disappointed. After hiring a babysitter, finding tough Deep Ellum parking and walking out starving, we will not be returning!
Unique dining experience with excellent food. The chef, his mother, niece and aunt make and serve their family recipes, explaining the ingredients and heritage. Gourmet meal that feels like family dinner.
Purepecha was an amazing experience, for a great value - I highly recommend it to those who want an authentic and intimate setting. The evening I went, there were the three groups: couple (us), a friends group, and a family. Everyone seemed to have a great time, and we all could share the space easily. My favorite dish of the 8 course menu was the Pulpo (octopus) - I'd come back for that alone, but every dish has it's unique flavors and style. It'll be treating a friend or family to this gem again soon!
Wonderful, authentic food-- great experience!
Incredible experience! It’s expensive ($250+ for two) but unforgettable with amazing food cooked by multiple generations of family in a very private setting. It feels like you’re a guest in their home. Skip lunch before you go because it’s a lot of food!
We were the only table on a Wednesday late seating. The family were very nice. Food was superb. Very new experience for us. They prepare the food in front of you. A nice young man and several older women. Strange being the only table. But very nice. $100/person. Plus wine. There is not a full bar, which displeased my partner. Chef disappeared prior to dessert. There was no cheese selection, as mentioned in other reviews, and only flan was served for dessert.
If I could rate my dining experience any higher I would. The service and food were both incredible. Such a great atmosphere, definitely a dining experience I want to repeat!
After trying other tasting menus like Pujol and Quintonil in Mexico City, I was very excited when I discovered this gem in Deep Ellum! It was a little overpriced, however there was a ton of variety with each dish (we had fish, octopus, lobster, lamb, duck, and wagyu) and the service was excellent! I loved how the chef explained every meal to us. Come on an empty stomach because the portions are large! The restaurant itself had a speakeasy type of vibe going, as it was located in a small intimate room behind revolver taco lounge. Overall, this experience was well worth it!
Very intimate dinner served by family. Portions of each course were large so pace yourself!
Simply outstanding. We loved it. It is an unusual place in some ways -- the back room of a taco joint in Deep Ellum with only 4 tables -- but the food was incredible and the service was lovely. And it was really neat to watch the chef make our next course, as the kitchen is in full view of the diners. Overall, it was one of the best dining experiences I have had lately.
Absolutely amazing food, great atmosphere and great service.
Definitely a hidden gem that will have people booking dinner months in advance soon.
The food was perfect, very authentic highly recommended!
Great meal, tremendous value. Loved it.
FRAUD, pure and simple. We expected a big night out for the price stated on the website, a prix fixe tasting experience. While the restaurant website stated the price per diner was $85, we were charged $100 each. They offered the flimsy excuse that, even though their website states $85 as the price, it can actually range from $85-100, and that they'd been meaning to update the website for MONTHS. As you can see from earlier reviews, we weren't the only ones served a surprise check. It really ruined the night, and the worst part was that the staff obviously didn't care and made no attempt to make amends. They could have easily made it up to us, but instead they refused to care and hung up on us repeatedly. We've had to contact our credit card company to try and get it settled.
The lovely women in the kitchen had to leave their work to go find the waiter for almost every course and it was obvious that they were tired of it. The women actually ended up serving us the last course themselves while muttering in Spanish that they were tired of the waiter being late. We made sure to thank them on the way out and they were so sweet, we felt sorry for them because they were obviously being disrespected which soured the experience. I wish we would have tipped them directly, they deserved it.
It feels like this idea probably started out great, but it’s past its heyday. There was no enthusiasm or smiles in the kitchen and the waiter was obviously not interested in being there. We found it faster to go out to the bar ourselves to get drinks rather than wait for him. Also, the room was increasingly hot as the night wore on.
What a bummer and an enormous disappointment. Would not recommend.
First the good news - of the eight courses five were very good. Also, the women cooking our meal were nice, friendly and vey accommodating.
Now all of the bad news - Victor, our server, was absolutely horrible. He never said “hello” or “welcome” and was generally silent and sullen every time he came to the table to clear dishes. He never asked if we needed anything and when we wanted to order drinks it was difficult to get him to help us. The room that Purepecha is in is maybe 300 sq. ft., and there were only eight people having dinner, so, its not like he was overwhelmed.
When we asked about ordering drinks he said that they only server wine, margaritas and paloma, which isn’t true, they have a full service bar. I pressed him and he did admit that I could order a mescal.
Next, it was over 90 degrees in Purepecha. When we left the restaurant and stepped out into a 90 degree Dallas night it was much cooler than it was in the restaurant.
The Tortilla Soup and Pulpo with Black Beans were very much under seasoned. The Flan was marginal at best.
Then to finally add additional insult they tried to charge us $100 ea., even though their web site says that the meals are $85. Unsurprisingly, Victor was of no help. He stated that the owner had raised the price to $100/meal and that there was nothing he could do about it. Finally after pulling up their website, where it states that the the meal is priced at $85, they reluctantly changed the bill.
My wife who always tips 25% to 30%, and who regularly tips 20% for marginal service left a 0% tip. I’ve never seen her do this before. Since the ladies who did the cooking and serving were great we left them $40 in cash - they deserved it.
This place could have been great, but Victor, and his horrible attitude, really ruined the entire experience.
Our group had a WONDERFUL time. It was cozy and charming and the food was delicious. The chef explained the inspiration and history of each course. We had so much food for the price per person. Definitely worth it for a special night out
It was fabulous! I felt like I was dining in the chefs home. The food was fantastic and beautifully presented. Their is no other experience like this in Dallas!
I've been on a hunt to try some new restaurants in Dallas and this one did not disappoint. The food was very good and we enjoyed the intimate dining experience. We went on a Saturday night and there were only about a dozen people there in the back room. I really enjoyed seeing the mother/son cooking experience - very unique! I loved each of the 8 dishes, and particularly loved the tortilla soup and octopus. The noise was a little louder than I expected but not unmanageable. Two areas that could've gone a little smoother: The restaurant was frustrated by last minute dietary restrictions (but didn't ask for them in advance) and the meal was $100 per person instead of the $85 listed on their website. Otherwise everything was as great as we had read about.
Literally the best meal and dining experience I've ever had, hands down. Fantastic from start to finish!
Food was delicious, but not quite the experience you would expect for the price. They tried to charge $100 each when the price on the website is $85. $65 would be about right for the experience. The dessert (flan) was not very good. I wanted to like this much more than I did and was a little embarrassed that I had talked another couple into it. Fun experience and great food, but not fantastic.
