   Although I gave them a relatively good review, I have one complaint. They didn't have the wine I ordered nor did they have the appetizer I ordered. The substitutions were good, but not what I wanted.

   We were disappointed with Rappahannock. Even though we had our reservation for two in place for quite some time, we were seated at a very dimly lit two-top in the very back of the restaurant next to the restrooms. It was so dark that we couldn’t see to read the menu and had to use the flashlights on our phones. I think there was a restaurant there somewhere but I didn’t feel like we were actually seated in it. Also, they didn’t have any iced tea, which I usually drink. This seemed rather odd to me. We ordered the six oyster appetizer for $15. The oysters were okay but not the best I’ve ever had, despite the hype about Rappahanock having great oysters. My mahi-mahi entree was very good, with sliced potatoes and asparagus accompanying it. However, although my husband’s scallops were lovely, the pseudo-Indian sides, which were coconut rice and some sort of green puréed item that tasted bitter, were not very pleasant. It would have been nice to get the scallops with the potato/asparagus side! Anyway, for the price, we didn’t think Rappahannock lived up to its billing.

   Worst experience I’ve ever had at this restaurant. I might not return again. Theater crowd filled it up, so food delivery was very slow. Paella wasn’t very good - mushy, flavorless rice! Dessert - what was supposedly lemon pound cake turned out to be some strange deconstruction of a standard dessert that was mushy, crumbled, and poorly flowered with strips of candied lemon.we ordered dessert after the theater crowd had left and it took 20 minutes for the awful things to arrive. Server explained it was because they had been slammed earlier and we’re catching up. No excuse in a nearly empty restaurant. The apologies rang hollow! The oysters were very good as was the bread and cheese board to start, but the meal went down hill from there. They had run out of several of the dishes on the menu, so the paella was our third choice. Very disappointing experience for what had been my favorite Richmond restaurant.

   This was even better than 4 stars, but I save 5 for truly amazing. Everything was spot on, from the atmosphere to the service and, especially, to the food. Excellent oysters and salad to start and then both the scallops and the paella were very special entrees.

   Restaurants are in a tricky position with rising costs and customers dialing dining out back. But... the prices Rappahanock demands needs to reflect the food, ambiance and service. All which were lacking upon our last visit. Which will also be our last. At the very least good service costs nothing but good training and management. This is so regretable as Rppahanock was always, reliably, a delightful evening out.

   The food here is awesome. You absolutely must try the wood fired octopus! I also had the wood fired fish, Bronzini, and it was fabulous and perfectly cooked. The only drawback to this restaurant is that it's noisy. I don't know why restaurants in Richmond think noise is good, and add music (too loud) on top of it, but, if you plan on enjoying conversation with friends, it will be a challenge. Alternatively you can sit outside and it's considerably quieter (ironically since it's on Grace St.). Despite the poor design for noise, I highly recommend this place.

   Rappahannock has become an annual stop since it opened as we drive south for vacation. It is simply one of our favorite seafood restaurants in the country. It has a very relaxed vibe and the service is excellent. (We love sitting at the bar near the oyster shucker, who by the way has a secret ramp recipe for a mignonette that is worth the drive to Richmond). We are blessed to have access to great NY, NJ and Philadelphia seafood restaurants and Rappahannock takes its place with any of them. Of course, the fish is perfectly cooked, but what separates it is the chef's extraordinary sides.

    Had a reservation but we arrived early. No issues and we were sat immediately. The place was pretty empty at the time. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. We got the oysters (Rappahannocks), octopus for apps and we had the paella and sautéed mahi. All were excellent. I’ve been to the Rappahannock Oyster Bar at Row DTLA (downtown Los Angeles) and was looking forward to eating here while we’re in town. We were very satisfied.

    Service was excellent. We were over 30 minutes late for our reservation after getting stuck in a parking garage. I called a couple of times and they were super accommodating. Highly recommend the grilled octopus appetizer!! It was delicious.

    They were out of a lot of things and we had a 6:15 reservation. Also, our waitress was very nice in the beginning and then just sort of disappeared. It took a long time - it was 9:00 when we finished and really should not have taken so long.

    We found the menu varied and interesting but pricey. We did not expect the long wait of an hour for the food so that is an unfavorable feeling. There was np explanation or apology for the long wait. We will not be returning in the foreseeable future.

    We had a wonderful experience. It was fun to be seated near the open kitchen. We ordered the Mahi, the Baked Oysters, Biscuits and Sausage Gravy and each dish was excellent.

    The food was excellent! The service was subpar—not sure why, but I suspect the waitstaff is spread too thin. The ambience was great, but the noise level, while better than several Richmond restaurants, was not great. Despite these minor criticisms, I look forward to goimg back because the food is so well prepared.

    Burgers were good, baked clams were the worst I’ve ever had, but they took it off the menu which I appreciated. However I ordered a house Chardonnay and it was $18, a little bit crazy.

    Great overall experience, our server was very nice and just attentive enough without interrupting our experience. The food was really good, oysters were sweet, the pickle and pig plate was tasty, and the paella was excellent. The menu is on the smaller side but we prefer a restaurant that excels in fewer dishes.     I wish the restaurant had more selections on their menu. Our dinner was just okay. Note: We ordered the cheese tray and that's exactly what we received. To bad there weren't any type of crackers or bread that came with this appetizer.

    We had an early celebratory dinner here during a weekday. The food was creative, delicious and unlike any fusion I'd had anywhere else. The octopus was incredible, as were the scallops. We had a few drinks as well. So for one small plate, two dinners, two desserts and 6 premium drinks we crossed the $200 mark. No complaints. Top quality food and excellent service.     A bit disappointing overall. Very loud and tightly packed, which is fine, except when compounded by slow and slightly sarcastic service and skimpy portions. Food was well executed but not quite satisfying. We left hungry and tired.
