What Insiders Are Saying
One of LA's finest Italian restaurants, Osteria Mozza in Hollywood is still very much at the top of its game.
Food was good but it took a very long time to come out and the restaurant didn’t even seem that bust
The place is expensive. This is ok in itself, but the food must back up the price - world famous chef, etc.. Start with good - the bread is excellent. The buffalo mozzarella was ok, but served with anchovies in a can, was simple and plain. Nothing complimented it. The pasta was well prepared, but a rather small plate of pasta with added cured fish row flakes was $30! There was no presentation, nothing interesting about this plate, just some pasta. Then onto my wife’s duck confit- a huge piece of duck on a plate. That’s it. A dry piece of duck - no sauce, some gelatin in a small cup. And so salty, it was inedible. We don’t have pictures- it was not worth it.
The service was great - make no mistake! But with food quality, presentation and prices - I wouldn’t come back - the value is not there.
Todo bien excepto que me tardaron en dar mi mesa 30
Minutos después de la hora reservada.
Service was amazing beginning-to-end. Drink options were appropriate. Food was incredible. Would fly from Canada to LA again for this.
The food and wine are exceptional! This was our first time to the restaurant, and we enjoyed it. Having read several other reviews, I agree that the front desk staff are not friendly or helpful. I dropped off my wife and friend since he uses a walker, while I waited in the valet line to drop off the car. Once my wife and our friend were inside, they were told they couldn't be seated until I was inside. Our friend is older, so standing in a small entrance room is not at all easy to do.
Once seated they had us pushed up against a large square pillar making my seat particularly uncomfortable. We later adjusted seats, but I question their sense in putting any patron in the seat in which I started. We asked if we could order some small item to start and the server said no. She explained that everything had to go in together to be coursed out. We understand this, but clearly we are asking because we were very hungry. I would have appreciated even a piece of bread to tide me over while we peruse the menu.
Back to the food, which is phenomenal. When we did get bread, it was absolutely delicious. Though they gave us a dish of olive oil without any sort of spoon to serve it. So we poured it onto our plates and made a mess. We had the octopus, fennel salad and asparagus. Another small note, they knew my wife didn't eat pork and kindly provided the guanciale on the side. What was odd was that they didn't explain with which dish it should go. For pasta course, we shared the cacio e pepe, orecchiette and strozzapreti. Each was fantastic. We ordered a fish main dish which was fine. The strawberry dessert was everyone's favorite and far exceeded our expectations.
The sommelier, Cam, helped to make our evening special. He was very helpful and friendly. He made a perfect suggestion to pair with our first courses and helped me to navigate all of the wine decisions. We brought a bottle as well, and he helped to seamlessly integrate it into our meal.
Wonderful service and meal. A truly fantastic evening.
Beautiful restaurant on Melrose with a dark interior that feels warm and inviting. Excellent appetizers and first courses to share. Wonderful pasta dishes and Main corses featuring great fish preparations. Inventive desserts rounded out a perfect evening.
The food was good, not outstanding. Ragu pasta was under seasoned and a little bland. The pasta with white sauce and peas was too al dente. A little more cooking time would have been perfect.
Service was great. The noise level was high in the main room but fine in the inside room where we were seated.
Desserts were good.
Everything was amazing. Took me right back to Italy
The food here is exceptional, we had an endive salad, the mozzarella tasting, the cacio e pepe, the duck and torta de la nona. All of which was delicious. Service was friendly without being overbearing. Perfection!
An absolutely fabulous dinner. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. We had a truly memorable meal. Ask for a table in the back. It’s less of a scene and more quiet and relaxed.
We’ll be back.
I wrote a review already. Overall aside from not having a table due to it cancelling because we arrived late due to traffic we hung out at the bar and ordered there and enjoyed it. Bradley was our bartender, he knew the menu well and gave us great recommendations.
Just simply one of the best restaurants in LA. I love the Caesar Salad , all the pastas and of course the desserts.
Food was fantastic! The service, however, was lacking to say the least.
Great food and atmosphere but had to wait over 40 minutes past our reservation time to be seated
We were in the first back room which is MUCH quieter than the big room. Plus 1. We had a superb waitress, Kelly S. Very high plus 2. The food was delicious and we shared 3 courses, which worked very well, with Kelly's help and which filled us up. Plus 3. Actually , I plan to phone in my next reservation in order to get the same waitress and the room!! Thank you for a delightful and memorable dinner!
Not much you can add to their reputation for service and food. I had the Pork Chop glazed in Rosemary - top of the list. We also had soft shell crab, anchovies with burrata - flank steak - excellent - Drinks were on the spot - I had a Old Fashion good pour (large ice cube) but no black cherry.
Can't say how good and friendly the service was - on the spot and no rush at our table.
The main dining room my the entrance is noisy but we got seated further back into the restaurant which was much quieter. Our server was delightful... knowledgeable, pleasant and not too pushy or in your face. The food was wonderful (especially the Italian mozzarella, the cavatelli and the yellowtail. Nona’s tart was also amazing. Great Father’s Day dinner.
Absolutely loved our experience at Osteria Mozza. Food was what I expected from a Michelin star restaurant, absolutely delicious. The only thing I had an issue was out server told us our Secondi course of the ribeye cap was perfect for sharing when in reality it was definitely way too small to share. But the meat was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing.
Food outstanding; ambiance much quieter/better than most other nice italian bar-restaurants
Our server really was knowledgeable but was stretched too thin the night we went so we waited for certain things longer than I would have preferred
the pasta and dessert were outstanding
Valet parking at $14, waiting in an alley, is less than ideal but the location doesn't really allow for a very convenient, safe alternative; would be nice if it was a little less expensive given that the prices inside are full-fare
overall, a great restaurant
The good people at Osteria Mozza excelled once again! It was my birthday and they arranged for a special personalized menu for the table. Service was at our elbow and with a smile. Top notch wines. Each dish brought a new wonderful taste surprise. A night to remember. Thanks!!
John our server was extremely friendly and smart. He knew about all of the wines to pair with the food and was always there when we needed him. The service all around was amazing and we had a 4 course meal (5 dishes) in under an hour but didn't feel rushed at all! A great experience for my boyfriend's birthday!
Excellent food and service. We were seated in a quiet saloon, although the main one seems to be noisy. I strongly recommend Osteria Mozza.
Nancy Silverton’s crowning achievement! A must visit.
We go to many restaurants around LA and this is one of our Faves!! The bread is Amazing, the food is beyond delicious. Yes, they do pack you in. A bit noisy depending on where you are sitting. But we have been coming here every year for our anniversary for the last 5 years. DON'T MISS THE OCTOPUS. I know - not your fave? My hubby doesn't like octopus but Loves it here. And the pasta dishes are all out of this world!
Food was great, drinks were great. The sweet potato dessert was a highlight
Everything at Mozza is done well. The drinks, the service and certainly the food. The mozzarella course, the ricotta cavatelli, the gnocchi, the caesar, the beef tagliata and espresso semifreddo were all perfectly executed. My only quibble was how much smoke there is on the smoked burrata. I'd skip that next time, but would be happy ordering any of the other dishes. The gnocchi was the stand out for me.
If you go, you'll know in advance that this is not going to be a cheap meal. I'm not afraid of spending on a nice meal from time to time, but I would be rushing back to eat here again much sooner if the prices were a touch lower.
Overall it was amazing, just a little disappointed that we got seated near the back room.
Osteria Mozza is a fabulous and delightful place. Outside, it’s Hollywood, inside, it’s a completely different world all it’s own, friendly, elegant, beautiful and comfortable. The food is wonderful, the service is expert, warm and unpretentious. It’s all a little bit pricey, but I’ve never enjoyed paying for something so much.
The waiter was fantastic and offered suggestions when we asked him about certain items. The food was great and the tastes where unique
One of the tastiest dinners I've ever eaten. Between the 2 of us, we had 1 mozzarella sampler dish, 2 pastas, the beef tagliatelle, 3 drinks and a dessert. Just shy of $200. Everything was wonderful.
Took my fiancé there for her birthday dinner. We had a great time. The food and service were great. Would definitely return and recommend.
If you’re ready to book a restaurant big on Snob appeal this is the place for you.
We had three of four arrive together and we were told (in an empty restaurant) that we could not be seated until the 4th person in our party arrived. When I made it clear that we wanted to be seated at our table immediately they relented and sat us and clearly they were upset.
Asking the waiter for his suggestions for appetizers he gave them and so we ordered. The 4th in our party arrived.
After waiting for the appetizers in what seemed like forever, I asked the waiter what happened to them, he told me that the kitchen would have to have our entire order before our appetizers would be delivered to the table. Ordering wine was another ordeal. The food was good. But nothing that is worth going back for. There are many 5 star restaurants that will give you equal food and a far better overall experience.
We ate at the pizzeria for lunch and loved it so much we came back to the Osteria for dinner!
Our favorite place to eat love they brought back the appetizer asparagus and burrata cheese so good!
Try mozzarella was none like I have ever tasted before!
Great place with delicious dishes
Amazing experience all around!
Birthday. I told the waitress it wA my daughters birthday. She didn’t offer anything special. They sat us in the back room. Not great atmosphere. The main room would been much better.
The food was amazing! It was very long in between courses.
Overall. Probably wouldn’t recommend. Too may better places in la with far better atmosphere
