Fantastic meal and brilliant service.
Very pleased, tasty food and attentive staff, good wine
Excellent food with superb service- thank you for a special night
A walm welcome and an amazing, atmospheric restaurant. A must visit if you're in Oxford. The food was first class and we were pleased to see other guests around the restaurant considering Oxford is very quiet at the moment. The staff were friendly and so, so attentive in a friendly way. Our waitress was an amazing host. This was a 25 Wedding Anniversary visit and we'll worth it.
The lobster was delicious, perfectly paired with white vine from Languedoc. I would recommend.
First time here and thought it was fabulous. Smaller, so more intimate and cosy than many Oxford restaurants. Perfect for a date or special occasion. Fabulous food and the staff were outstanding. Will definitely return.
Fantastic service, great food, thought has been put into the menu, especially for vegetarians - rather than being an afterthought. We will definitely return.
Perfection from entry to exit - a lovely evening Thanks so much
The waitress was very pleasant which contributed to the great tome we had at the restaurant celebrating our anniversary
The previous very positive reviews did not disappoint. Travelled to Oxford specifically to meet a family member and we had a really lovely meal. The champagne cocktails are fab. The staff are excellent and helpful with any queries. My partner says he’s definitely going back! The food is I would say Italian or French influences. Good if you like fish or meat.
Exceptional food and service, fantastic meal enjoyed by all!
Lovely little place with a fantastic team and excellent food. We were looked after perfectly and also got some local info about some raspberries used on a dessert - no way we could refuse pudding after that! Would be back in a heartbeat when next in Oxford.
Centrally located. Outdoor seating available (pavement opposite). Anglo-French type of menu with good selection, daily specials and a good wine list. Some wines available by the glass - small or large.
Warm welcome and attentive service, without being intrusive. Food cooked to order, so expect to wait. Staff very friendly and personable. Will certainly be No. 1 on my list on my next trip to Oxford.
Quality of the food was excellent. Service was very good. The chairs are a little uncomfortable and it did get very warm in there but it was a very hot evening and it didn't detract too much from what was overall an excellent meal.
It was amazing ! Yesterday was very very hot outside and I asked to be inside to avoid the sun.. they kindly put our table by the window without even having to ask ! So thank you so much for that first. The food is amazing, the service with Mark was brilliant and we had a wonderful time ! I’d recommend 300%.
My boyfriend had the turbot filet and I had the half lobster.. both amazing ! For starters we had the house terrine and the courgette flower .. delicious as well ! Nothing else to say but : go there !
Great restaurant- surely the finest in Oxford - lovely menu and service
Lobster Cote de boeuf and Baked Alaska to die for!
Excellent food and great service from the waiting staff.
Fabulous food and great, attentive service.
The best meal that I have had since I can remember! Staff were excellent and friendly . We had a lovely evening
Slightly on expensive side
But good food and service
Octopus was cooked well and I enjoyed it. Lobster was very nice. The fries were average. The stuffed baby aubergines were tasty. There was a bitter spice that felt over powering at first but they were tasty non the less.
Glass of champagne had more depth than I expected for a name I wasn’t familiar with
The usual excellent experience. Service unobtrusive, efficient, friendly. Food delicious, imaginative, excellent value. Wines very good. Now much the best place to eat and meet in Oxford. I recommend it to everyone!
This is the second time we have visited this restaurant and again we couldn't fault anything. The service is fabulous, the food incredible and the overall experience just perfect. We have already recommended the restaurant to several friends
Lovely evening at No 1 Ship Street. Excellent food and attentive service. Not a vast menu but seafood and local meat done to a very high standard.
Food was nice but not great and given the price was not really value for money.
Service was ok but had to ask for everything rather than simple things like condiments be offered or provided.
Was in oxford for a few days as a tourist and booked No1 Ship based on previous reviews. We had a table for 2 and had a fantastic time. Excellent food, wine, service, ambiance and the overall experience was faultless. One of the best restaurants I have been to and would recommend.
Fabulous dinner. Warm welcome ,friendly relaxed and knowledgeable staff
Excellent menu and delicious
Somebody really cares and it shows Thank you for a splendid evening
Great restaurant for a special occasion. The food was excellent and the service was particularly attentive; but in a nice way, not overbearing. For example, they kept us topped up with water without us having to keep calling them over - something some other, even top restaurants, are not particularly good at. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience. Oh, and the music was good as well - loud enough that you could hear it, but not too loud so it didn't affect the conversation.
Excellent meal to celebrate my daughter's graduation and getting a job.
Not happy that we were charged for water as this wasn't clear at the start.
Also, the "optional" service charge wasn't optional.
Food very good.
Great food and service. The menu is quite short but very well executed. We had the surf and turf and it was delicious. It was easily the best lobster I have even eaten and was prepared in a way it was easy to eat with no claw cracking etc. Waitress was very efficient and friendly.
Excellent food, wonderful atmosphere, attentive staff and service.
What more could you ask for.
Really enjoyed lunch here. Great find. We will return!
Lovely food and service. Would definitely book again when I’m next in Oxford.
Needs greater care over presentation of the food and the avoidance of tough parts of vegetables which become difficult to eat and digest
Amazing meal in perfect surroundings. Food was perfectly cooked and Mark’s service was impeccable.
Great service as soon as we walked in. Tentative, efficient and friendly.
Food came quickly, drinks too.
Food was AMAZING!! Great selection of cocktails and other drinks etc.
Recommend the lamb shoulder and the baked Alaska!!!
Would definitely recommend and go again!!
Fantastic meal. Best post covid service we’ve had. A pleasure!
We had a really lovely meal. The veggie option was different and really tasty. My husband had the lamb and loved it. Attentive staff and a really friendly atmosphere. We were so pleased that we booked - I’ll definitely recommend to any visiting friends.
Lovely Emma served us, she was a delightful lady and couldn’t be more helpful.
Have given this 2 to 3 stars which is low because I thought the restaurant did not come up to expectations. The good was OK but not as good as I had expected from the menu description. For example, the chicken confit was really a chicken leg booked with vegetables and some fried lardons added. The sorbet was cold and OK but flavours rather muted and uninspiring. The vegetabke soup was largely without taste, due, it turned out to the fact that the cook had forgotten to add the pistou (though the cost of the soup was removed from the bill). Some of the dishes were good, the burger and the octopus salad. The ambience was spoiled by loud piped music. I found the service rather uneven, sometimes attentive, sometimes tardy and a bit rough. I do dislike strongly the compulsory addition of a 12.5% service charge. Tips should be earned and not expected in my view.
