What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
7.7

Nix is a grown-up, entirely vegetarian and vegan establishment, in an area near Union Square previously lacking in both such kinds of places.

Ratings 7.5-8.0:These are restaurants that are reliable, tasty, and particularly good for whatever we have deemed them “Perfect For.” Hit up a 7.7 for Date Night with confidence, as long as you don’t need the restaurant to be the most interesting thing that happens that night.

I don’t typically leave reviews but this was warranted. Particularly for a Michelin star restaurant, I expect better. Let me start with the good — service was excellent. The food sufficed if you were hungry, which we were, but frankly I went home and ate a second dinner.
- At $22, I expect Burrata to be served at the appropriate temperature and to be served with something to capture its lovely gooey factor. Eating Burrata that is still a little too cold with a spoon is not inventive or original, it’s just nonsensical. Also there was zero truffle flavor.
- Cauliflower tempura could have been a true star, but the cauliflower to bun ratio was way off. The cauliflower is very sweet. In making this an entree size, someone decided to present half a plate of cauliflower. Now, each of the 4 steamed buns presented holds approximately one floret of cauliflower and one pickle. The buns ran out way before the cauliflower, which is too cloying to eat on its own, and the pickles followed soon after. As with the Burrata, I was left wondering why the accompaniments hadn’t been thought through from the diner’s perspective.
- Gnocchi was a butter bomb. I like butter but it shouldn’t be the only flavor note present.
- The only thing that seemed appropriately scaled and served was the apple salad. Tasty, though small for sharing.

Noise was pretty high, no space for coats leaving folks cramped between tables, but overall very attentive service. Won’t be returning or recommending.

I've been to Nix a few times because the cauliflower buns are unforgettable. But now I am adding the avocado with truffle as my new go-to at Nix. Truly mouth watering. I can't wait to go back. Also recommend the sweet potato & ginger dumplings, but skip the spicy tofu with mushrooms.

Michelin Star well deserved - food and service as expected for the designation. Very good vegan options - not necessarily saying healthy, but tasty. Best matcha latte and I even forwent the white chocolate.

This innovative vegetarian restaurant is worth visiting. We had an absolutely delicious lunch. I highly suggest the chocolate mouse which is an avocado vegan mouse. Our server knew the menu and certainly pointed us in the right direction. The Cauliflower Tempura was very good as were the English Pea Dumplings.

Nix was absolutely the perfect food selection for my friend and me. Healthy vegetarian and vegan dishes with a variety of light to hearty fare. It was excellent. The service was a little "meh." My six-month pregnant friend was turned away at the door at 11:15 for being too early even though it was less than 30 degrees outside. And our waitress was SLOW. Maybe it was just a case of the Mondays.

Nix is just fantastic from start to finish. The generosity of spirit and the fine dining and food and wines are superb. A lot of love gets fed into the menu and food. For a variety of reasons, we arrived all of us hangry and impatient. Before too long, our guests and us were grateful and delighted for the experience.

Delicious plant-based meal, as always. Ordered our regular vegan matcha latté, carrot + orange juice, iced coffee, 2 vegan patriot pancakes, brown rice porridge (with the most divine fruit jam), smashed fingerlings with herbs, naked avocado + vegan tandoor bread ✨ My boyfriend is vegan, allergic to all nuts, sunflower & sesame, so cruelty-free dining can prove more challenging at times—Daniel is an incredible waiter who always triple checks those allergies. Our favorite brunch!

Nix is a newly Michelin starred vegetarian restaurant that my boyfriend and I were excited to visit on our trip to New York. The waitstaff were pleasant and helpful, & our reserved table was ready exactly on time. The cocktails were superb, & the food was excellent. Everything was fresh & hot, & the dishes meant to share were the perfect size. We would highly recommend Nix to anyone looking for an upscale yet not outrageously priced dining experience.

I have one of the most memorable meals on my life at Nix. It is my new must-go-to restaurant every time I'm in New York City. I'm not a vegetarian, and I've never missed the meat in any meal I've had at Nix. The attention to detail is spectacular. A friend in my party can't eat dairy, and they made him his own menu. There's too many fabulous dishes to recommend in 1 review. Go and see for yourself.

I was slightly underwhelmed by some of the courses of the NYE prix fixe. A few were delicious, but the rest was very inconsistent. The salad was tasty but, over salted, the pasta was basically flavorless, the cauliflower was not cooked well and the silken tofu was inedible.

The service from the wait staff was excellent, but the kitchen was extremely slow. Given the fact that we did not enjoy several of the courses, I would say that the value was not good.

I will give it another try when we can order from the full menu.

My wife is a veggie and had been recommended to Nix. As we were in New York she wanted to go to try it. I am not a veggie but as my wife had always provided the family and I with delicious meat meals I thought it was the least I could do to book a meal at the restaurant.
The meal was superb. Recommend care on the menu selection as one shared starter one light and two main are plenty. Fantastic wine list and the pineapple sweet is to die for.
Bit more space between tables would be good and the tables are quite small to cope with the dishes. Low ceiling makes conversation and close proximity of tables makes noise a problem-perhaps sound acoustic ceiling would help.
But thoroughly recommended from a big meat eater!
