Monkey Island Brasserie & Bar
Afternoon Tea may be enjoyed here or in an entrancing setting with a famous Renaissance ceiling. Cocktails and drinks are served in front of the welcoming fireplace in the stylish bar.
Classic French doors lead out to the picturesque terrace where guests can enjoy outdoor dining whilst admiring the idyllic views of the River Thames.
Unfortunately, we were the only two diners in the restaurant due to heavy cancellations but we enjoyed the experience very much and we shall continue to return.
Loved it! Food and service fantastic! Will be back!
We immediately liked the setting, the restaurant looks over the river and it was fabulous to enjoy the view throughout the meal even though it was a cloudy day, the meal was excellent and the staff looked after us nicely, a great lunch, thank you
The Monkey Island Brasserie & Bar grounds are stunning and the brasserie food is delicious. I particularly enjoyed the Beetroot starter and the Monk fish main although all of us were impressed with our choices. I will be visiting again, in fact I would prefer to keep it a secret, It's so good.
Amazing restaurant. Great views, great wine list and superb service. One of Bray's and one of the UK's top restaurants.
Valentines set menu - didn’t live up to expectations. Good starter of duck terrine and followed by a tasty lobster bisque. Unfortunately the fish course was very overdone, and the beef short rib also indelible. Pudding was OK but we were not expecting to have to share.
Bar service option arrival was good, and the Monkey Island Mary was excellent.
Errors on the bill (extra water added and £16 for a tomato juice) were corrected without fuss, but was a shame.
A wonderful experience, we were greeted by Nigel whose friendly yet professional approach left us in no doubt that we were going to have an excellent dining experience and we did. Food excellent, service exceptional and we will be back .
We had a fabulous lunch. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable. Will definitely return and recommend.
Wonderful food in a very relaxing atmosphere. Staff very friendly. Will be back soon.
Great decor, service and views.
Hidden gem in Berkshire.
Although it is advertised as as Brasserie, it really is a superb resturant. A few little touches ( expanding the wine list being one) and it would definitely feel more of a fine dinning experience. Service was outstanding , as was the food. Ambience perfect and the grounds stunning. Shall definitely be returning.
The food, the service and the beautiful setting made it a fabulous afternoon.
Stunning location, excellent food, great service.
Very pleased overall. Would highly recommend
Very impressed, lovely location and stunning decor. Polite staff and excellent food. Would go back in a heartbeat..well done
Amazing rennovation! The place looks stunning and majestic
The manager and staff couldn’t have been more helpful - the service and are was excellent and the food delicious.
Lovely welcoming staff, beautiful decor and very comfortable seats in the brasserie.great views over the river.lovely choices on the menu. We opted for lentil soup and a Caesar salad to start then a ham hock pie with mash and seasonal greens.all delicious, beautifully cooked.wine is a little expensive for an average bottle but didn’t stop us.
Thoroughly enjoyed the expedite and will be back
The service was great, the surroundings were lovely but the food was poor. We had the afternoon tea for 4. The sandwiches tasted as if they had been frozen and defrosted, the bread was not fresh and slightly crusty around the edge. The warm scones were nice. The mini meringues were sloppy and the Panna Cotta was awful, none of us could eat it. We didn't feel it was value for money.
Visit to the UK and the meal was amazing. So worth coming over the pond!
We went for NY day and had the set menu.
The food was excellent, service impeccable, overall very impressed. The ambience is lovely highly recommend.
Food was excellent and the view of the river adds to the enjoyment. Strongly recommend.
The food was glorious, the setting magificent and the staff really sweet and friendly.
The food was great and the service excellent but the drinks are seriously over-priced.
Our waiter Adam was absolutely charming ! Very nice evening ! Thanks .
Fantastic service and food. Top quality indeed. Will definitely return.
Lovely place to dine - service staff were very professional and the Sunday lunch was gorgeous - perfect cooked roast beef - we will
Certainly be visiting again soon and thoroughly recommend this jewel on
Our second time dining here and we were not disappointed. Food was excellent as was the service.
Second time here, the first at Lunch and now Dinner, Staff friendly and attentive, food excellent, with good wine list. This is unquestionably fine dining at a great price.
Perfect pre Christmas treat
A really lovely Sunday lunch, highly recommend the roasts, plenty of food served. Excellent service with a wonderful view of the river. Highly recommended and would definitely come back again.
It is a most beautiful place . The gardens and river were gorgeous and the inside was lovely too. It was very quiet when we arrived as it was after lunch. The tea was very nice and beautifully presented. When the manager asked if it was a special occasion we said it was my birthday and she very kindly brought over a glass of champagne for the adults and a soft drink for the child with us. The manager was kind enough to come and chat with us and we told her we’d visited many years ago and she offered to show us around the hotel . Amazing ! Such style !
Really lovely spacious dining room with tables not too close together and noise levels tolerable. The food was exceptionally good with a very original menu. Our waitress, Ellen, in particular made the whole experience truly enjoyable. We will definitely be making this one our regular treats, providing we can get a booking in future as I fear it will become too popular, once word gets out.
Excellent venue, wonderful staff, even had a guided tour of all rooms upon arrival.
Great food and very attentive staff. Hotel and restaurant very nicely refurbished . Restaurant was very busy and a little noisy but that wouldn’t put us off returning. Lovely place to have dinner or lunch and the location by the River Thames is very pleasant.
A wonderful evening spent at Monkey Island celebrating the engagement of close friends. This was our third or fourth visit since the refurbishment and reopening earlier this year and the experience only gets better. Monkey Island is a unique and very special venue which still retains a lot of it’s old school charm but manages to deliver a very up-to-date yet relaxed dining experience with excellent cuisine and very friendly staff - definitely worth a visit.
Great food and ambience. Staff very friendly and attentive but the food service was a bit slow. Would certainly go again.
Enjoyed dinner here for the 1st time last Saturday. Lovely venue, inside nice menu, not too complicated, smoked salmon was superb! We will definitely return soon.
This restaurant has a very good view of the river. Ask for a table near the window. The lunch menu is not large but good quality and tasty. An excellent wine list. And the service couldn't be faulted.
Staff, quality of food, service, ambience, location
Lovely location, especially on a sunny day. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious but the choices were a bit boring. We managed to find a couple of interesting dishes though and they were beautifully presented.
