What Insiders Are Saying
Momotaro is like a Japanese Discovery Zone. You may need to sample the menu a bit, but hit your stride and it's a great meal.
Amazing experience. We will go back
The food and drinks are phenomenal here -- the A5+tuna+shrimp+sea urchin roll pieces are some of the best single bites you can take in any restaurant in Chicago. Drink offerings are great and their selection of Japanese whiskies is enough to satisfy almost any connoisseur. Service is a bit hit or miss -- the wait staff is very friendly and accommodating, but it takes just as long to ask for the bill+pay the bill as it does to eat sometimes, which seems like it should be the most frictionless part of the experience. Still going to come here on the regular -- the hot dishes are a draw by themselves.
Beautiful restaurant. Nice menu. Wasn’t impressed by fish quality. Food didn’t live up to ambiance or ratings on TripAdvisor or yelp. Overall, stick to the coast for sushi, I suppose. Was only impressed with decor. Had to try, but wouldn’t return.
Very nice set out, great food and very warm service! It was me and my girlfriends anniversary, the restaurant gave us special treats and congrats. Would definitely recommend momotaro to my friends
Best Japanese food in Chicago. Wonderful sushi, creative and very tasty dishes. Definitely a place to try. You'll be hooked. High buzz and popular. We had a fabulous meal. Service was a bit slow but they got us extra items to make up for it! Sara was terrific. Don't miss Momotaro
Momotaro is not cheap. However, it is an incredible dining experience. Truly delicious food and drinks with a very helpful wait staff contributed to an unforgettable date night.
excellent food and service .I would go there again soon.
Colleagues from NYC said it was the best meal they’d had in a long time. Kudos and great meal as always!
Hands down the best sushi I have ever had in my life and I’ve had sushi in Tokyo. The salmon sashimi melts in your mouth. Everything we ordered was delicious. Service was spectacular!
Eat before you come. Delicious food but not alot of it.
Great! Get the sea urchin
Great food and ambiance. Great service at first and then he completely disappeared.
Birthday dinner. Wine was delicious!
Smart setting, excellent service and unique food.
Everything was amazing, the service was so nice and so friendly. The waiter helped a lot cause today was our first dinner at Momotaro.
Was very disappointed by the $100 Miyazaki Wagyu.
It is noisy but I enjoyed it also! It was my second visit and everything was great except the car traffic near the restaurant.
Absolutely fantastic dinner! Went for a birthday and they went above and beyond! Ask for Lindsay as your waitress, she’s phenomenal!
Great food, great experience. Only downside was we were seated by the entry/ bar.
This continues to be the gold standard for Japanese dining in Chicago. We were lucky enough to have the same server as last time (Nam) and we allowed him to drive the entire menu...and it was fantastic. Nam is one of the best servers I have had anywhere. He knows the menu as if he created the menu. Once he picks up on your tastes, each dish keeps getting better and better. Momotaro is a must for dinner if I'm in Chicago.
We had a wonderful experience. This was our first time dining at Momotaro. The menu a little overwhelming, but our server Devin was warm and extremely knowledgeable. She offered to plan an Omekase for us. Our favorite items we ate were things that we never would have thought to order. We’ll be dreaming of the pasta for months!
The food quality of this restaurant has gone down in the past years. It used to be one of our favorite restaurants. But we have been disappointed in our past 5-6 dining experiences here. The sushi tuna on the Momomaki roll was not fresh & smelled like chemicals. The beef used for the Aburi A5 Miyazaki Beefas was flavorful but filled with tendon, so there was not much bite. Also, it is priced at $26 for three pieces, which is very pricey for not much food. I willing to pay for quality food, but the quality is not there. The chicken dumpling we had was a disappointnrr. It was not a dumpling, but just ground chicken costed with white rice. The egg that accompanied it, was not adequately poached. Also, some of our favorite items are no longer on the menu, such as the potato salad & tofu. After coming here for the past 4 years, this recent dinner had me crossing Momotaro from our list.
Food was great. Interesting and delicious. Atmosphere was very cool/hip. Highly recommend!
Our evening at Momotaro was splendid! From our friendly and knowledgeable waiter to the outstanding food, we loved every minute of it. It was a great place to spend our anniversary. We were greeted with champagne and got to take home a menu signed by the chef! I highly recommend Momotaro for an unforgettable experience.
We were seated within minutes of arriving. We had great food. Great service. Rachel was our waitperson and she was wonderful, knowledgeable, and helpful. Zuke salmon is great. Our meal was paced perfectly. Our first visit was memorable.
Wonderful unique food. Great atmosphere and service. They even personalized my husband’s menu with his name as we were celebrating his 30th birthday! Will recommend to anyone visiting Chicago!
Excelent dinner, they changed the chef and a few menu items, but it’s still great, one of the best Japanese restaurants in Chicago
I had the chef’s nigiri special and my husband order two rolls of sushi and he regretted not ordering the same as me. Everything was really good.
The food was fantastic. I’m not so sure of the front staff or wait service however. The back of my chair was kicked repeatedly throughout the meal. (I didn’t say a thing so my date didn’t know that I was being bothered.)
LOVE THIS PLACE! My go-to spot every time I am in Chicago. EVERYTHING on the menu is AMAZING - a life changing experience in every bite.
Service is awesome - shout out to Nam!
Oh and seriously that Spaghetti!!! OMG love it!
The service was outstanding. The food was delicious. Loved the overall ambience.
Great experience from front to back. Our waitress was top notch. It was a first date and thanks to our good time we will be going on more dates.
Momotaro delivered a captivating night of amazing ambiance, impeccable service and delicate cuisine.
Sub standard food.
Recommend the izakaya over the main restaurant.
its a pretty great experience
Chutoro is good.
Incredible food experience, the place is beautiful. Service lacked a bit--the last item took 20+ minutes after all other food was consumed and taken away to come out.
We loved the staff and the food. Very knowledgeable and knew the menu inside out. Everything was fantastic.
