Korean
Chef and Owner Esther Choi opened mŏkbar – driven by her personal passion to introduce New Yorkers to the traditional flavors and culture of Korea through food. Esther blends the traditions of her grandmother’s recipes and the influences of her adolescent years in Korea with her own American upbringing in her seasonal menus.

mŏkbar has 2 bustling locations – one in Chelsea Market and the other next to Barclays Center in Brooklyn – inspired by the everyday food culture and lifestyle of Korea. mŏkbar combines traditional Korean soups with fresh ramen noodles for a unique culinary experience. In Korea, eating noodles on-the-go as street food is part of everyday life. As well, mŏkbar proudly serves Korean “Anju” or shareable small plates typically served with ice cold Beer and Soju.

They were very accommodating when we had a couple of extra people added to our reservation. The large tables in back fit us well. We were able to hear each other well since the noise level was low. The food was delicious! We shared various appetizers and main courses even though the mains seemed arranged like a meal for one person. But it worked for a family style meal. The K-pop chicken was yummy—we ended up ordering more of that appetizer in the middle of dinner!

Food was nice but I made a reservation for my mom and I at a table....they didn't offer a booth- and it was my first visit. They told me I had to request it and won't allow happy hour drinks in the dining room....my 75 yr old mother wasn't comfortable and weren't very accommodating...such a shame as the food was very good.

Excellent option near BAM and Barclays Center. Good cocktails. Terrific home-made kimchi. "Rice sets" like a Korean "bento". Companions enthusiastic about their ramen bowls. Attractive, comfortable venue. What's not to like?

The food was fine and our server was nice. But heavens, it was unpleasantly smoky inside. Burn-your-eyes smoky from the poorly ventilated kitchen.

When we got there, they said they couldn't hold our reservation and that there was something wrong with their system, so I shouldn't have ever been able to make the reservation to begin with. They didn't try to make any accommodations for our situation.

Had never been here and waiter was very helpful in ordering. Communal tables are s not odd but it worked. Food is very good but not great. You won’t rave about anything here but you’ll have a nice dinner and a good time.

We ordered the galbi dumplings, a bulgogi ramen bowl with a sauce rather run a broth and the classic ramyun set. Also had pinot noir and the beer and soju shot combo. The drinks were good, the dumplings were amazing and the ramyun was really good. The ramyun portions were giant and the seasonal banchan were great. Servers were informative and friendly, but changed half way through the meal.

Mokbar was great! Our server was very friendly! They had an interesting selection of drinks, that were pretty good. The food was delicious; I would definitely recommend the ho'cake and vegan ramen. It is a little pricey, but the portions are large.

What a find! This place is close to our home but we’ve never noticed it. It has a super cool style with industrial modernist tones. I bought a Gilt voucher and accidentally let it expire (2 days prior) but the manager came over and still honored it! He also chatted with us, gave us recommendations and was incredibly friendly and attentive. We got a flight of infused soju, seasonal kimchi and ramen. All of it was delicious! All of the kimchi’s were very distinct and so good! The soju’s (pineapple, wasabi?, and sesame) were so tasty and the ramen was yummy. Now that we found this place, we’ll be back! Definitely recommend.

Went on a Thursday, food was interesting especially the Watermelon matcha. Service was a bit slow due to the restaurant being busy, but out waiter Harry was outstanding and very attentive. Wish more restaurant staff was like him.

Will absolutely be going back with a bigger group and will be spreading the word about this gem.

Location is great and close to Barclay Center, but the food is an another story. I've been to enough Korean food to know that although popular place, the food is not really Korean food that I know. If you're looking for actual BBQ Korean food, I suggest going to 32nd st in the city.

Came to Mōkbar with 2 friends for a quick lunch. The ramen was great and the poached egg has got to be one of the best I ever had! It's definitely one of my favorite ramen spots in the city...

Mokbar was closed. My reservation was made despite the fact I made it during their closed hours. I got to the restaurant with my family and friend. The door was locked and lights turned off. It was almost 100 degrees that day. Thanks OpenTable.

Your fault opentable. Restaurant was closed, while Inhad received a confirmation and reminder about it. I wrote to your cuatomer service, no reply after 4 days.

Will not use opentable in the future.

I went here after I saw the new Avengers movie. That was depressing how it ended but the drinks at this place sure know how to change your mood. Had several drinks and enjoyed the Ramen. Service was great as well. I had more than several people taking care of me at the same time.

We were disappointed. My 3 friends and I were battling traffic after leaving a popular neighborhood event. Our reservation was for 8:45pm. I called at 8:40pm to say we would arrive no more than 10mins late for our reservation time. After calling 3 times a gentleman finally answered and said, no problem they would expect us soon. We arrived and checked in at 8:54pm and the hostess said our table was given away. We asked to speak to a manager (since I called) to find if they would accommodate us for the mistake or if we should leave and never return. We asked for a round of drinks near the bar while we had to wait another 45mins to sit. After asking again, the manager agreed to comp is one round of drinks. Service after we finally sat was fine - but the restaurant was also no longer full (other people waiting for a table left). Furthermore, I found hair in my food. We will not return.

I made a reservation for Sunday afternoon for 3 at 3:30 (as it showed available) and the restaurant was closed.

Super disappointed as I was looking forward to giving them a second chance after a subpar delivery meal.

I guess it wasn’t meant to be.

Everyone working here was very friendly. Pretty cheap as far as Korean food goes in New York. The gochujang wings are to die for.
