American
Located at the Mercer Hotel, Mercer Kitchen brings a chic, sophisticated vibe to the heart of SoHo. When Mercer Kitchen opened in 1998, it immediately became a destination for New Yorkers, celebrities, and tourists. Situated in the basement of a historic building constructed in the 1800s, the… restaurant was designed by Christian Liaigre as a combination of industrial and classic modernism. Chef Jean-Georges’ American menu features market-driven, seasonal ingredients prepared in a simple yet elegant style, with favorites like the Tuna Spring Roll, Steamed Shrimp Salad, wood-fired pizzas, and classic Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake. There is an open kitchen, where guests can sit back and watch the show.

The waiter we had didn’t really come to the table a lot, never asked how our food was, just rude. Don’t think I’ll ever be back

Had a great evening, loved the design and the feel of the space. We had fabulous service and really enjoyed our evening there. The cheesecake was a standout.

The issue that most detracted from what might otherwise have been an outstanding experience was the 15 minute wait (no exaggeration) between courses. However, we do plan to dine there again, the next time that we are in NYC.

Excellent food and ambience. Waiters need to pay more attention, two people at table were left without eating utensils.

I remember the food being outstanding last time I was there. For the price I was expecting a bit more. It was good but not fantastic.

Everything was perfect. The food was delicious, presented well, and served at the proper temperature. The waiter made a couple of good suggestions, was attentive and not annoying. The ambiance and decor were great. I cannot find a single fault and I can be very picky. Overall a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend this place.

Very strange to have a $4,500 bottle of wine on the wine list and have no decanter at the restaurant. Could never recommend for a wine enthusiast.

Definitely driven towards the chic and a “scene” than a dining experience. Great date spot or a bite post meeting. Found myself surprised that the appetizer menu didn’t have a ton of sharing options.

The food is quite good but overpriced ( 23 dollars for eggs benedict, 15 dollars for a mimosa ).
You can find other spots with a similar menu and just as good but for less. You are definitely paying for the decor and for the restaurant being in a trendy neighborhood.

Service was sloppy, tableware and service weren’t cleared while being served main course... drinks ordered were forgotten, and drink I ordered was 86 and I was made aware by the waiter while finishing my lunch.. I was not happy at all with raw bar, $48.00 and mussels that were presented were not all fresh or fully opened... I’ve known JGV since when I worked at The Drake Hoteland he was at Lafayette, big surprise how lack luster the staff was..

Great food but slow to serve. After notifying the manager, service improved and we were treated to a few wonderful additions on the house. Steak was fabulous as was the salmon sushi over fried rice balls.

Manager did try to do something about it but once you see that you can’t eat there anymore. Slap to the chef

Service was excellent, no complaints there. The decor downstairs is very tired, I hadn't been here in years and it felt like we were in someone's basement. Or a dark cafeteria. The place needs a makeover. The food was good but not excellent - which is what I expect from Jean George. Little things mean a lot- the wine glasses and were small, like something my grandma would use. The silverware and plates were water stained, they felt dirty. Honestly, we would have left before ordering if we weren't so hungry. And then you get the bill and you think " What have I done?" I looked at my wife and apologized - we felt ripped off.

I felt like an old fogey at Mercer Kitchen the other night, because all the diners looked to be young investment bankers and their stylist friends. Average age 28. Very chic. Loud. Entitled.

HOWEVER, food here is excellent, and reservation staff and wait staff is also superb. What's a 50 year old to do?

Extremely rude and arrogant staff. They stood next to us and spoke loudly so we could hear "are they literally gonna stay here forever?". We were one of the last tables but the place was still going to be open for another hour. Overall very obnoxious male waiters, I would not go there again.

The trifecta of NYC dining - cool ambience, delicious food and great drink menu Lots of nice seafood selections - however, menu has plenty of meat options as well. Definitely a great date night or cool place to meet up with friends. Only downside bring your Amex as pricing is definitely NYC

I've been going to Mercer Kitchen for years and love the food. The waitstaff is well trained and attentive but it seems that, especially of late, part of their training involves putting an inordinate amount of pressure on guests to finish their meal and make room for the next round of guests. We had an early reservation for two at 6:30pm on a Thursday and by 7:30 we were constantly interrupted by multiple waitstaff that were clearly being overattentive for the purpose of hurrying us up. Small, overpriced cocktails were being whisked away before one could finish. By 8:00pm the decibel level was incredibly high. Jean George's reputation keeps this place very busy but I know of other restaurants of this caliber that don't make you feel like you've stepped into a noisy culinary rush hour. A straightforward dinner for 2 without a lot of frills was $260 - too much for that kind of treatment but I guess they've got some heavy rent to pay.
