Mattie's at Green Pastures Ratings and Reviews
Service from the host was pretty terrible. Thankfully it went uphill from there
Delicious!!! Great server too! I'll be back for sure!
Mixed experience. Food was excellent, however service was not. Noise level was so bad it was difficult to talk to each other. It took twenty minutes to get a cappuccino that was really a latte. Courses were served without silverware leaving us waiting while the server went back to kitchen to retrieve correct silverware. Reservation was made as a birthday celebration. The hostess asked who’s birthday and that was the last we heard. While another table was served a birthday desert, we weren’t offered one. A very disappointing evening.
This place is very relaxing. It's a great place for a date night or any other special celebration staff was very nice and attentive. I ordered the shrimp and grits and they where okay I'm a huge foodie so in my opinion it needed more seasoning and texture. Everyone liked their dish my husband had a streak and he liked it. Mom had a chicken dish and banana bread and she really liked it. We all had couple of drinks they where all good drinks. I would come again on a special occasion.
Friendly warm service. Amazing cocktails and delicious food.
The food was good but not great. Salmon was undercooked ( I was not asked how I wanted it cooked). It was almost cold. Good wine list, reasonably priced. Service friendly, good.
Second time dining at Mattie's and it was excellent. Our friends loved it.
Wonderful garden and surroundings. Food was excellent, as was the staff.
However, the noise level was way too loud. We could not even hear to be able to have a conversation within our table. A guest at one of the tables asked a table of rowdy guys to Please tone the noise down. This did help.
After all the good press we decided to try Mattie's with friends. We dined in an upstairs room which held 4 tables next to the bar. With all of the hard surfaces, the noise level was very high and we had to strain to hear each other.
We ordered a bottle of Jordan wine and after 10-15 minutes the waitress returned to say that they did not have the wine (this resturant has been open less than 3 months) .
We each had the bibb lettuce salad, which was well prepared, nicely dressed and presented. However, three salads came together with the server and she forgot to bring the fourth one to the table until we reminded her 5 minutes later.
Two of us had the fried chicken, which was overcooked and dry as a bone. The other two had the steak frites, which was undercooked.
With all the great options in Austin, there is no reason to dine at Mattie's and we won't be returning.
We had an 830 reservation and were not poured water until 915
The food was great, but the mimosa stunk. Too much Orange juice and zero champagne. Even when we complained the2nd mimosa stunk Too. So $8 for a glass of orange juice!
Beautiful place with great food! I will definitely be going back.
We wanted to see how Mattie's had changed Green Pastures -- where we got married 41 years ago. Surprised that they put us at a tiny table in-between two full tables -- between the music playing and a boisterous group to the right, it wasn't quiet or particularly intimate... We ordered the cauliflower side as an appetizer and it was really good. I had the pork loin and my husband had the fish -- both were lovely and well prepared. We ordered dessert which was pumpkin pie with butterscotch sprinkles and cream on the side. Butterscotch took out my upper crown -- so it wound up being an expensive dessert. Not blaming Mattie's for that but it was unfortunate. The pie and gingerbread crust was delicious.
Everything was great. We tried Fried Chicken and Duck Breast and they were amazing! You can complement those with Cauliflowers as a side
One of the most pleasurable experiences I have dining in Austin in quite awhile. Food and ambience beyond stellar. We will return soon.
Service was terrible
The front door hosts, bartenders and wait staff were all very friendly and professional, one thing I find that is hard to come by in Austin these days when a new and hip restaurant pops up. Southern fare was tasty and great for spitting a few plates with friends. We sat inside squeezed next to a wall and in between two dining rooms, not an ideal seat in the place for our reservation, however, the outdoor environment is very appealing when the temps provide!
Probably one of the best meal, if not the best meal, I have ever had. Everything I tasted was delicious, like a party in my mouth! As for location, all I can say is that it was a stunning blast to the past. The victorian style house converted into a restaurant with the luscious trees that drape across the property just add to the ambience of the place. Another great addition to the vibe was the live music.
I really wanted to give Green Pastures 5 stars. The setting is really lovely, the Wednesday night music was terrific and there were lots of very friendly wait staff hanging around. Unfortunately, the food and drink were very slow to arrive and the entree I received was not what I had ordered. I ordered shrimp and grits and received a burger and fries. The waiter assigned to us must have been stretched too thin that night because he never apologized for the mixup. He did comp my husband's second beer which was ordered as the first course was delivered and eventually came out after he had finished his main course. The waiter dropped off our check as our entree plates were picked up and didn't ask if we wanted coffee or dessert. We are not ready to write them off yet and will try again but our first impression was not great.
The house and grounds are impressive. The service was friendly and the valet is a nice touch. The enter descriptions did not convey the heat level in some dishes. My recommendation would be to stay with familiar dishes, except for the cauliflower side. It was spicy, but outstanding. I would not get the trout again, but the fried chicken was good, as we're the biscuits.
Food was fantastic but our server was less than accommodating otherwise I would have given them a higher rating.
Loved Mattie's with one exception. The music was terrible; it did not fit the beauty and comfort of Mattie's.
Mediocre, overpriced food with terrible service. Beautiful atmosphere, though.
Loved Mattie's! The atmosphere was amazing and the food was great. Their cocktail menu was the only place I gave a lower review but even that wasn't bad. Definitely worth going!
The cauliflower, biscuits and fried chicken were amazing!
very nice for special occasions . very nice surprise for my friends and family.....very, very , very expensive but the menu is on point. food is truly the best...
Fantastic restaurant! The property is breathtaking. Service was very good and the food extraordinary! Chicken liver pate was sublime! Also fried chicken eggs Benedict. Don't forget to visit upstairs!
I've been there twice with friends and the food was excellent both times and the decor and ambiance is stunning. I have two issues. One, I know the menu is Southern, but the appetizers particularly are pretty heavy on starch. I'd like to see something on that part of the menu more shareable. Also, the price points are just a tad high for some of the dishes. But overall, it's charming.
My husband and I went for a date night on our last visit from Houston. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. There was a wonderful jazz quartet playing on the lawn as we had appetizers and cocktails. I had duck and my husband had the steak. Both were excellent and perfectly prepared. The best part was a white peacock casually strolled by as we had after dinner cocktails. The staff was Also very friendly and seemed happy be there, which to me speaks volumes about the way a restaurant is run. I will put this place on my must dos when in Austin.
Girls night celebrating Fall birthdays. Everything we tried was excellent. First time to eat there since the remodeling. Loved all the spaces
Beautiful surroundings and an attentive staff with very good food make any occasion special at Mattie's.
Zero substitutions allowed on menu for
Dietary restrictions. Limited vegetarian options. Drinks were good. Noise level was
Loud in a high ceiling room with 4 small tables. Beautiful restaurant and location.
Kind of pricey. My egg sandwich was basically and egg McMuffin for $16.
Potatoes were extra.
We were celebrating the significant birthday of a friend, and wanted to go somewhere special—and special it was! The service was very good, but the food surpassed everything. Every single person was impressed with their food, from appetizers to main course. Of course, we’ll be back, sooner than later, I am certain.
The property is beautiful, inside and out. You definitely feel like you are walking into someone’s home. We went for Saturday brunch and started with mimosas, and then shared biscuits. They were delicious! We ordered the fried chicken eggs benedict and vegetable breakfast bowl for our entrees. The eggs benedict was truly awesome and the breakfast bowl was really good (I would have preferred more veggies and a little less kale). And the service couldn’t have been better. We can’t wait to go back.
Drinks and appetizers were great! Main dishes were a bit overpriced for quality.
Outside area looked fun - would go back for drinks and apps in outside patio/garden area .
Such a beautiful property and the food was perfect! I love great comfort food and they hit the nail on the head! Will be back next time I’m in Austin!
Waiter was either distracted, annoyed, or stressed. Very strange given otherwise incredible restaurant. Hopefully it was a fluke. I'll give it another go.
Mattie's is great. The venue and grounds are beautiful. Historic and vibrant. Exquisitely well done. Beautiful inside and outside seating. The food and service were perfect. Great for a date night, a night out with friends, or to impress and connect well with a business associate.
We had the best anniversary dinner. Our server and several other staff members came and congratulated us! It really was a great environment to be in.
We used to love the old Sunday and holiday brunches at Green Pastures but were disappointed in two of the four entrees from our Tuesday night visit celebrating two birthdays. The pork chop was nothing special my daughter said and my mothers trout was just one small fillet that was hard for her to separate from the skin, and her green beans were too hard to eat. The handicap access for my mother using a walker was a very long walk from the back side of the house to the front. And the new milk punch was thinner, but boozy enough, than the old milk punch served with brunch.
Completely overpriced and not worth it - save your money or spend it on something better!
