Offering a menu of classic bistro favorites with unique and flavorful twists, Marlowe Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio, who earned three stars from the San Francisco Chronicle for her cooking at Cortez, created a mix of snacks, appetizers, mains and sides made up of the kind of food she loves to eat when she’s not working.
What Insiders Are Saying
We’re still on the lookout for a Soma go-to, near the ballpark. Marlowe is a base hit but not a home run. (Clever, we know.) That's what we're here for.
Made you feel like family. Good food, terrific service and a very pleasant evening for sure!
Meeting friends. Noise level was much higher than usual.
Marlowe is a great place for good food and excellent service; I think we're becoming regulars there.
Very loud and seating was tight but overall a delicious and fun experience. The Brussel Sprout chips were incredible!
Great food but very crowded st lunch time and tables are very close to each other
Top notch wait staff
New menu is just so so. Busy as usual. Overall ok experience.
Eat here at least once a month. Always superb!
Amazing menu & perfect setting for a weekend brunch.
Though it overpacked, that is a part of its charm
It was very good except when they turned on loud music around 7 pm. The music was more appropriate for a bar but not for a restaurant,
WAY TOO NOISY - impossible to have a conversation without screaming! Burger was just okay, anemic portion of lukewarm/cold fries, they were out of the only appetizer we wanted, and biggest pet peeve? ...when a restaurant serves the "wine by the glass" selection in the 2nd class "house wine glass" instead of a proper glass that is provided if you order a bottle of wine.
Food good but lunch hour is insane on the noise side. Not a good place if you are with an older person or want to have a conversation where you don't want to raise your voice.
Fun place! Food was excellent, as was the service. Will go back.
Brussel sprouts melt in your mouth
Great experience! Raves about it to friends and other colleagues! Will definitely go back!
Ok burger, cooked as ordered. No wow factor as I expected because of all the positive reviews. Great service. I would go back.
This place was odd for a birthday dinner. It felt like I was at a bar, which I do not like and typically do not frequent. People either spoke loudly or the acoustics were poor, or both. Our waiter was exceptional, though I could barely hear what he had to say about the entrees and what he recommended. The octupus-squid salad had a tasty, lemony dressing that drowned the frisee, and the octupus-squid was too thin and wire-like for me to appreciate. The poulet "vert" was a winning dish, which I'd recommend. The polenta dish was also a winner; unfortunately it was buried in greens that seemed like an afterthought and added little that was positive to the polenta proper. If you can imagine yourself enjoying yourself while listening to a talk show on a boombox with the volume turned up and with the boombox held closely to your head while you eat dinner with a friend or two, then this may be the place for you. Otherwise, visit the place on a slow day, or not at all.
Recommended, but with qualifications only.
Great food and interesting menu. Very loud and hard to carry on a conversation with my friends.
The chef likes everything quite salty! We returned the steak tartare which was inedible, the octopus salad was like a left over with o lt few slices of octopus, also very tough to chew. The sole was again salty. No subtle taste here.
Nous adorons Marlowe, excellente nourriture et très bonne ambiance! A recommander!
Great everything! The staff is amazing, they have a great cocktail list, and the food was amazing. I am not a big seafood fan, but their fish dish was amazing. I can't wait to go again.
Seats by door are very cold as door opens constantly.
Fantastic food, friendly and efficient service, and truly killer cocktails. This will be a regular stop on my trips to San Francisco going forward.
Fantastic brunch. The pancakes and burger were delicious
Our evening was perfect except for two things, I specifically mentioned my husbands 60th birthday when I made the reservation but had to remind our server that it was his birthday.
Second, the server was focused on selling us drinks and it was obvious. She offered us second and third cocktails before we had finished and then pulled our drinks without asking us if we were done. This in my opinion is in poor taste. We were ordering plenty of food and drink and did not need to be prompted.
Food and drinks seemed to be overpriced even for the area. $3.00 for a half an egg was absurd! Ribeye was good. Oysters were good but extremely small and pricey. Steak tartare was excellent. Waitress was attentive. Was within walking distance of our hotel. Expected more. Don't mind paying for good food but this didn't meet our our expectations.
Fantastic food, even better cocktails. Well worth the price
Food was sub par - pretty bummed to be honest . Probably won’t return and would not recommend.
The Poulet Vert was delicious!
We enjoyed our meal at Marlowe. Service was friendly and efficient. Wine selection good. Appetizers were nice. Loved the Polenta entree. We hope to return.
Love this place. One of my 'go to's' in SF. The brussel sprout chips are a must.
Took one hour to receive food, restaurant was very loud, and we were crammed into a small space.
Fourth time here. Unique and delicious brunch in a convenient SF location. Fluffy riccota doughnuts, carmelized bacon, deviled eggs, crispy chicken sandwich and cocktails all fabulous, and open table reservations made it easy! I'm so tired of trendy restaurants that make you wait 2.5 hours in a line to get in. Thank you Marlowe.
Great food and drinks in a cozy setting. Although noise level is high, you can still talk to people next to you.
I love this place everytime!
We loved the menu and tried the deviled eggs, candied bacon, chicken sandwich and burger. All excellent. Wish we had ordered the Brussel sprouts. Also donuts looked good. Very tight seating and you can hear everything people are saying.
great neighborhood oasis in SOMA
lively conversational atmosphere and attentive staff
Lovely spot for dinner in SOMA! Note the portions were large, particularly for SF.
