Little Sister - Downtown
relaxed social environment that feels more residential than
restaurant, as if you"re being invited into the Chef Tin's home.
Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more
interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out
of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. Dishes blend and
balance the spices and flavors of Southeast Asia with French
techniques and Dutch and British colonial influences. The menu is
continually and progressively evolving, reflecting inspiration and the
seasons. Scott Young along with Chef Tin curates the restaurant's wine and beverage program
with a focus on intriguing labels, both domestically and from around
the world. Craft beer selection includes special batches from The
Brewery at Abigaile, brewed only for the restaurant.
Good Food, but not a Good Overall Experience unfortunately. There's so much going for this place but it's a shame that it's not fully realized. Trendy, Nice tables, ambiance & decor. Menu is quite difficult, if not nearly impossible - you only vaguely get an idea of the offerings. That's where a great Wait Staff comes in - & unfortunately we didn't have one. She was rushed, appeared overworked & didn't / couldn't explain the complex offerings listed on the menu - thus ordering was a great disappointment & unsatisfying. Once ordered, the Wait for our food was way too long, while others nearby got their later placed orders before ours? For example - ordered Beers for each of us, but 2 came & the 3rd was delayed by 10-15 minutes, Same with various food choices. Why? Very Poor wait staff & inattentiveness to customers. Food was delicious - once it finally did show up. Nice Asian fusion dishes - echoing Vietnam, Singapore, Myanmar, Thailand (I've visited these places & do know a bit about the local dishes) - but WOW the difficulty in getting food & service. Advice: Study the Menu before going & read reviews & advice on ordering - you're not getting any help once there. Best, is to Avoid this Restaurant for Now, until they improve their Wait Staff. (Is management not aware of these issues?) There are better choices for Asian fusion delights.
This place is always excellent. Service is friendly and fast, dishes are delicious and the variety is on point. I tend to over order when I come, usually 6-7 dishes but it is worth it to try every dish on the menu as they are all amazing. Constantly recommend this place to friends and coworkers, will continue to come for the food, service and hip atmosphere. Highly recommend if you are into Vietnamese or other Asian dishes.
This place is a must! Our server was Kevin, he was super informative and friendly. The food is flavorful and colorful while the music and ambiance is straight fire. Great place for small groups too!
Shared a table with our FFF (Fatty Friday Friends) group for lunch! Our server thought we ordered too much, he underestimated us. Great food, nice ambiance, good service. Flavorful and fresh. Used Uber and OpenTable, worked out perfectly.
Aweful, not good, the octopus had a strange taste and was tough.
Noise level made dinner conversation really hard
Nikki was a fantastic server. Food outstanding.
We are from out of town and this was our first time at this restaurant. The food was very good but the service was terrible. We were all but ignored by our waitress. We had to flag someone down for anything we needed right up to the check at the end of the night.
The pepper sauce that comes with the shaky shaky might be the best thing ever.
Food was delicious, staff were very attentive
This is the second time I visited little sister and was not near as good as the first time , seemed just not as flavorful. Was disappointed 🙁
Lovely spot, amazing food! Our only complaint is that the table for 2 is quite small, and so are the plates we got. The portions are perfect, but the dishes you get to put the food on were a bit too small, and it was hard to eat without spilling. That said, we won't keep that from returning!
Very loud with uncensored rap music blasting and tables crammed an inch from each other, this overhyped Vietnamese eatery serves salty mediocre food. The Vietnamese iced tea was decent.
Made to feel welcome as soon as we entered the restaurant. Attentive service and delicious food. Nice wine selection.
Food is simple but very tasty. Not formal yet not super casual. Still, for such basic food, a bit on the pricey side. And, at least 3 things we ordered were not available.
Nevertheless, if you haven't by been, you do have to try it.
Great food! The flavor and quality are amazing. Not salty or oily. Awesome ambiance. Reminds me of NY. Good music playing in the background.
The appearance on your site for reservation without the pricing not a good idea, the place is way overpriced, Thank you, Eugene
Great food, the shaky beef was expensive, over-cooked and tough. WAY too noisy, and the music was ridiculously loud. After a third visit, we probably won’t be back.
Food was good but a bit rushed through service, all hot dishes came out at once
Earl was the best - very attentive and hospitable.
Strong flavors and fun dishes on a menu you won’t find at every establishment in the city. Loved the pork noodle dish and the black cod soup was delightful. The lemongrass chicken is an old JGold favorite and while it was solid, it wasn’t mind blowing. Coffee flan dessert was a great finish too!
Food was delicious but it was extremely loud and the tables, extremely close together. Very uncomfortable and overcrowded. We expected more vegetarian options, too. Sweet waiters helped save the experience.
Sabrina made the experience the most enjoyable. her recommendations were spot on. Kudos to the Chef for creating such amazing fusion!!!. Cant wait to go back...Must try (and I dare you) the black duck eggs
All the little sister restaurants are delicious and have great vibes. This particular location is great for lunch and dinner.
Food is amazing! Definitely a repeat date night spot for us in DTLA.
I love Earl our server. He is always attentive and making sure everything is ok. The food as always was amazing! lol the ingredients are fresh and delicious! I love coming to this restaurant!
My friend and I came to Little Sister for dinner with an early reservation and we were on time. We were seated and service was great with Philip. Food was good. Music was a bit loud to have conversation. Our table was in between two other very close tables so it felt a bit snug and our table was a bit small for the amount of dishes we ordered. We did not order dessert, but we were trying to finish our bottle of wine when we were told by the greeter/seater that they needed our table in 15 minutes. It was clear that we still had wine in our glasses to finish and I could see that there was not a line of people waiting to be seated at the door. This was upsetting to hear considering I was a paying customer trying to enjoy my experience at this restaurant. It was embarrassing to hear and a good way to get a bad review from me. I do not intend to return.
Interesting food served in an attractive environment.
Good service, good food, an experience to repeat.
Fantastic food at an affordable price! We also received A class service and when we mentioned a minor issue with one of the items we ordered it was removed from the bill without question. Will certainly visit again next time I am in LA
Music too loud. Food came too quickly and not timed well between courses, but all of the staff was very nice. My wife did all of the ordering with the waitress but I was presented the bill, which felt sexist and very 1950!
Super fun place with great food! Food is full of flavor and our server was great.
Food is always fabulous, and I love the ambiance and the friendly servers. I eat here every time I am in LA.
Food variety and flavor was solid. Server was rushed, distracted and abrupt. They were on a lunch rush, to be fair, but his service level and type impacted our entire table’s experience.
Little Sister is great! I couldn't give this a 5 because we had to wait for our table with a reservation, but it is understandable with it being Mother's Day. But as usual, amazing food! And the staff was very apologetic and attentive.
Little Sister is a lively and fun place to have dinner and especially good for sharing many smaller dishes from the menu. The food is an interesting fusion take on Asian cuisine and in general very tasty.
Delicious and tasty food with lots of variety on the menu. Enjoyed the grilled pork spring rolls, lemongrass beef and another dish that I forget the name of - curry-like in a pot covered with a "pancake" on top. Divine mix of spices. Portions are generous and fun to split with a group. Most of all I appreciated our server's attentiveness to serious allergies at the table (peanut, shellfish). Tough with this menu but we were able to find something for everyone and the server was extremely patient and knowledgeable about the menu. Would definitely return!
We normally eat here in the evening and the vibe is very different from this experience at lunch. First, it was crazy LOUD. In the evening they have music playing and that helps to drown out the overall chatter noise.
The service was bad. It's too busy for this restaurant NOT to have more wait staff. It's not good for the customers, and, in the end, if people don't return because of either of these issues, it won't be good for Little Sister.
The food is always excellent and that's what brings me back, but the customer service and the noise -- oof.
Little Sister is our new favorite restaurant. Not since Beetelnut in SF’s Cow Hollow many years ago have we enjoyed the tastes and flavours of our meal so much.
Little Sister never disappoints! Delicious every time. Just a bit loud and hard to hear but really the food is so good it makes up for it.
