L'Escargot is now under the ownership of Brian Clivaz and Laurence Isaacson, who between them, have been involved in some of London’s most iconic restaurants and member's clubs. James Tyrrell is now the Head Chef and his dishes celebrate classic french cooking with a modern and healthy twist.
Snails unsurprisingly are the speciality of the house; the dining room pays homage to proper French bourgeois cooking and offers exceptional value. L’Escargot has been voted London’s best French restaurant and has an excellent wine list.
Favourite restaurant in London. Better than many Michelin starred ones. Fantastic service and ambience. Thank you.
Fantastic meal and service. They offered a prix fixe menu for open table diners but opted ala carte as we wanted the foie gras and Tournedos Rossini. Exceeded expectations from the cozy attentive atmosphere to providing gluten free bread for the foie gras and gluten free croute for the Rossini. Our server was outstanding and always there to pour our wine or check in on us. Will return.
Beautiful surroundings and ambiance with top quality food and wine. The escargots were fantastic!
The food and service was very good and decent wine list at fair prices.
Unfortunstly If you want a pre dinner drink the bar is on the 3rd floor and no lift. The bar is also quite cold due to the large roof light.
Ladis also have to climb 2 stoties to there toilet.
Never the less I would love to eat their again
Took advantage of the £45 chateaubriand deal. Great deal, cooked as requested. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful
Lovely little restaurant with an authentic french feel. great ambiance and attentive staff.
What an amazing place. Food was outstanding and good value for money. Our waiter was outstanding. Making the night amazing and funny. Just what we needed at the end of a stressful week. Definitely go back for another fun night with my ladies.
A romantic oasis of charm in London. Great for couples and friends plus reception space on the top floor. L'escargots et les canards sont superbe!
Excellent place to dine pre-theatre (or later!). This is not a burger joint or fast food - but a lovely place to book for 5 or 5.30 or 6pm. Lobster bisque intense, baked cod on puy lentils subtle and delicate. However, the pistachio souffle was the best and lightest souffle I have ever tasted. Well worth the 20 mins prep time. January 2020 saw my third visit her in less than eight months (I am an infrequent visitor to town). For West End pre-theatre dining, in tranquil surroundings, with excellent choices and attentive service, L'Escargot has it made.
The à la carte menu isn't the cheapest of menus - but if you are on a budget ask to see the daily fixed price menu and there is still a good choice at excellent value (look up sample menus online). You can book online - which is immediately confirmed and easy to do. We shall be back, and back and back....
I’ve been meaning to eat here for 40+ years, wish I hadn’t left it so long. Traditional French dining but not at all stuffy.
Delightful meal. Food was well prepared and excellent service
A great place to grab a pre theatre dinner. Quality food, good value great service and lovely ambiance. Highly recommended.
Our second recent visit and on both occasions we had an extraordinary dining experience. Snails for starters and Chateaubriand for main ( take advantage of the offer ) were both outstanding. Wine list was excellent and the table we had in the front downstairs room was perfect. Our favourite Soho restaurant.
It is very chic and traditional - quite obviously a restaurant with many decade history. However, the food didn’t impress much.
Lovely meal enjoyed by all and the ambiance was fantastic and very suited to the venue. Had a excellent evening. The service was also something a little special... Can't wait for an excuse to go back there!
Went with 2 L'Escargot virgins this time. They both absolutely loved it. As I did. Favourite London restaurant.
Went there for traditional French cuisine and it delivered in spades, nice to have proper linen, silver and chandeliers. The service was pleasant and very good.
Amazing french onion soup - best I have ever had. Fab trout for main. Good price, great location
Average restaurant, you can find better at this price. The worst part is certainly the advertised "coq au vin" turning out not to be rooster but plain chicken. I expect a restaurant to know the difference between chicken, rooster, hen or capon !
This was a surprisingly nice place with good food and polite service
Great name but sadly, that’s all it has. Had Chateubriand Deal and the Meat itself was tasty and cooked as we asked. However, the chips were badly over-salted. The Bubbly was good as well but some of the servers didn’t want to be there. Trading on reputation really.
A magical evening. The venue was stunning and the service attentive and helpful The food was sublime and the soufle was out of this world.
A wonderful place fantastic food great ambience brilliant service.
As usual with this wonderful restaurant, could not fault anything. Special ‘Epiphany’ pudding was an added bonus as we had just been to the Epiphany service at St Pauls
We had the set menu, it was extremely good value, the portion sizes were the same as main menu. Very good service. A really great place, the lighting and music was perfect
With apologies to other restaurants I have eaten in, and for the most part thoroughly enjoyed, I have to say that L'Escargot was an outstanding experience, and will definitely be worth a return visit some time. We had an excellent meal, great service and - while not cheap - good value for money (the set meal, particularly so, but could not compete with the wonderful a la carte menu...
As good as ever. Never get tired of this place and every time I take friends for the first time they always end up returning too. Great friendly staff. They really make you welcome.
Second visit to L'Escargot. Excellent French food and good service.
Post- Christmas treat with friends. Delicious food and great ambiance. Very close to Theatreland.
We went for a pre theatre dinner. It has a good calm ambiance. The food was good. Service was relaxed. Over all we enjoyed the restaurant.
La carne estaba podrida
Olía y sabía muy mal
Una lástima !!!
Excellent Sunday lunch
Service was slow, the rest was perfect
Disappointing service. Not in keeping with how it markets itself.
Excellent meal with attentive, friendly service. Potted shrimps were particularly good.
We really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. Would highly recommend for a rich, authentic French extravaganza!
Not particularly welcoming staff. Interesting surroundings and well presented food.
Very good food, we enjoined our evening for my husbands birthday very good service and the food was excellent
