    We had a great night celebrating our anniversary at Le Comptoir. We were seated about 20 min later than scheduled time. There were only 6 people in the restaurant so it was intimate. Service was top notch and the food outstanding. The chef, and his assistants put on a show and watching everything right in front of us was fascinating. It is very pricey for what you get but for a special occasion and for the experience it was worth it. The only thing that was not great was the charge for a glass wine which cost $35 for one glass. Imagine our shock to see $70 fee for 2 glasses. Overall, it’s the type of place you go only once but I would highly recommend.

    A one-of-a-kind experience. Everyone sits at the counter here (so if you are not comfortable or able to sit on a higher chair for a couple hours, I would recommend calling before booking). Dishes are prepared with intention and innovation. Everything was delicious and special.

    Way over priced in all aspects. Seated us half an hour later than reserved time to start. Except for the exacting technique that was used for cooking, the dishes were uninspiring. The dining experience was missed opportunity for intimate interaction with the chef and the staff. The chef's demeanor did not invite friendly atmosphere. If you want an evening having fun critiquing at the absurdity go ahead.

    This was my third or fourth time eating at Le Comptoir, and every time has been magical. I love that the base menu is completely vegetarian (except for egg and the occasional dairy). Even as a meat-eater, myself, I know I can take almost anyone to this restaurant and they'll enjoy the experience. The food is amazing--every detail is intentional. I am someone who generally steers away from things like black truffle, even at high-end places, because so few chefs actually do it well (and when it's bad, it's real bad). Not only did I feel 100% confident ordering the truffle pasta "upgrade" here, it ended up being my favorite dish of the night. Chef Gary Menes, as always, knocks it out of the park. I will say the restaurant has become significantly more expensive since the Michelin Star ranking, with the initial reservation fee doubling. That didn't stop me from ordering some of the upgrades, though, as I knew it'd be well worth it. Definitely not in my budget to do often, but it was a special occasion, and ended up being well worth it. A few words of advice-- 1.) The wine pairings are fantastic, but no matter what the sommelier says, it ends up being a decent amount of wine by the end. If you're a lightweight like me, you may want to opt for just a single glass of a mellow white. 2. Order the coffee! It's a really nice way to cap off the meal, especially if you don't want to pass out in a food coma afterward. This is a very unique and intimate dining experience that everyone should try at least once if you live in Los Angeles.

    This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in LA. The staff and chef were engaging, the food was incredible, and the experience felt very personal. Will definitely return.

    An awesome culinary adventure. Congratulations to Chef Gary and team! Absolutely loved getting to watch the entire team up close in action. Very knowledgable and friendly staff. Loved getting to talk to the team and ask questions both during and after the meal. There isn't a bad dish on the menu. Everything is delicious, beautiful, and prepared with incredible care and technical skill. If an all vegetable meal isn't your thing (although I'd be shocked if anyone had an issue with these awesome dishes after trying them), there is plenty of opportunity to add meat. Looking forward to coming back again soon!

    Probably the best steak I have ever eaten. Bar none. Vegetable plate was a revelation. The creamy asparagus soup was comforting and rich. This kind of ambiance, however, is not for me. The chairs were uncomfortable after 3 hours and the music was too loud for a conversation. That’s personal preference. I’m sure lots of people would love it … so for them I highly recommend!

    I’m not a food expert other than enjoying food and flavor as any human might. But this was the finest meal I have ever had. The chef was amazing as were his apprentices. He was kind and gentle. He cared about his customers. The atmosphere was upbeat and the music fit the mood. I would recommend this restaurant over all others.

    Outstanding! Each dish was aromatic, visually appealing and the taste blended perfectly. Chef Gary and his staff worked together so well it was as if I was watching a performance art rather than a restaurant prep. The wine parings were perfect! Wonderful experience. I look forward to my next visit to taste what Chef prepares as each dinner is different. I only wish I can give more than 5 stars!

    I enjoyed my visit to Le Comptoir. In particular I thought the food was great, and the intimate, in-the-kitchen experience with Chef Menes and his team was memorable, interesting, and fun. Stand-out dishes included the salade composée with 25 or so individually prepared vegetables and fruits and the superb egg dish. I also really enjoyed the wine pairings, which were thoughtfully chosen and — as with the food — pulled off a delicate between Old World and 21st century. My main gripe is that dinner wound up being about $350 or 400 a person after tax, included tip, and various supplements, which is very high for everything about the experience aside from the food and wine. For instance: there were a variety of minor snafus with the service (e.g. we were told that the $18 per coffee would be on the house, but then we’re charged for it anyway). The welcome experience is awkward and would have been enhanced by a chance to order champagne or something. Even allowing for the fact that the restaurant is a kitchen, the space feels crammed in and is rather loud with refrigerators, air vents, and such. At a lower price point this all would have been fine, but I walked away with the impression that LC charges almost French Laundry prices for a less charming experience.

    Astonishing and remarkable vegetarian food, that sparkles in its inventiveness, and delights in its flavors. The most difficult thing about the entire experience is getting the reservation. For two people at the counter, it's a great evening.

    The four of us had an amazing time. It was a really great experience from start to finish. Intimate setting, good music, fun to watch the chefs in action, minimalist kitchen. You could taste the love in all the dishes. Wish my pocketbook could afford to eat there once a week!

    OMG…Love the food, but I think I love Chef Gary Menes more! He is absolutely $10 for the first two hours + $6 for each additional hour. If you arrive early, they will escort you to the Hotel Normandie lobby and offer you a self-serve, complimentary wine. Then, when ready, they will escort you back in order of arrival. If you dine with a date/sig other, we’d strongly recommend that one of the two order the supplement to vary the tasting experience. Granted, you’ll pay more, but it’s worth the experience. Also, the tasting menu is pre-paid at the time of reservation, which will include tax & 20% service charge, which seems to be occurring more frequently with tasting menu restaurants. Of course, the supplements, wine pairings and other additions will be paid at the end of dinner service. If given the opportunity, we’d definitely come back.

    Wonderful intimate dinner for 12 (so basically 10 strangers). It’s a dining experience so you’re going to spend 3 or so hours engaging all your senses. Unquestioningly accommodating carnivores and vegans and everyone in between. Nobody gets a “lesser” version of anything. Two tips: 1. Parking is a challenge. There’s a parking structure on Mariposa a block away that worked out well. Street parking is at a premium. 2. Absolutely order a loaf of bread to go when you make your reservation. You’ll thank me.

    We are semi-regulars at Le Comptoir and we return every few months, not because the menu changes a lot, but because the food is consistently outstanding and prepared to perfection! Not to mention we are humbled by how Gary & company have always been so generous during our visits. We love Le Comptoir!

    This star restaurant is absolutely wonderful! The food is excellent - innovative, perfectly cooked, seasoned and beautifully arranged. The focus is on vegetables and you feel very healthy and still comfortably full when you leave the restaurant. We love the wooden counter, where up to ten people can be seated. From here you can experience the amazing cooking directly in front of you. The chef Gary Menes and his staff are all very friendly, and the atmosphere is positive and intimate. Le Comptoir is definitely worth a visit!!

    Le Comptoir was a great evening for a special occasion. Chef Gary and the team were so warm and helpful - they really do it all! The veggie-forward menu invokes an intimacy of flavors that remind you of the most excellent produce prepared with the utmost care. The wine pairing was a nice touch that was both playful but not overbearing. Sitting at the nine seat bar was a joy as we watched them prepare each course. We hope to come back soon!

    Chef Gary Menes is phenomenal. He gives a brief chat about the menu at the beginning of the meal and then it is down to business. It is evident to anyone who cares to look that every part of the meal is prepared with the utmost care and even the smallest decision is carefully considered.
