Kokumai means “black rice” in Japanese and is a premium sushi bar operated as a new concept of Japanese restaurant operated with an omakase function.

Seating appx. 60 people and serving up premium roll, nigiri, and sashimi with a great selection of wine, sake, and beer.

*Omakase: Authentic Japanese omakase menu is implemented. Menus made with fresh seasonal ingredients are prepared by the head chef in Kokumai.

The food was beautifully presented, fresh and tasted delicious. We were 1 of only 3 tables at the time we dined (6pm) and as this resturant is set back from the main 2 streets of Barangaroo it was very quiet however the staff were lovely and extra attentive (without being painful).

Was a lovely birthday dinner with two friends in a quiet setting. We shared the omakase sashimi and eggplant miso, both of which we enjoyed. All seats were high chairs, please be aware, though they were quite comfortable.

We could have ordered from the menu or choose off the train, the 3 of us all opted fir the train and we all enjoyed every mouthful. The young man that showed us to our table plus gave us the menus was very polite and informative. We would all go there again.
