Jose - Dallas
Nice lunch experience. Studio Salmon and Emoladas were each delicious. Service was warm and accommodating. First time I was there they had valet parking. This time it was self parking. Their lot is small and spaces narrow.
Birthday celebration. Staff great and we never felt rushed .
Enjoyable food and conversation in a great atmosphere.
Promising start to the meal ended with a bit of disappointment. Excellent chips and salsa. Friendly waitress. Guacamole was very fresh and nicely textured. But.... service became a bit inattentive after appetizers were served and the Enmolada (chicken mole enchilada) was subpar. The mole itself was tasty but the chicken was a bit dry. As a result, the enchilada was not as moist as I had hoped. In sum, the beautiful décor and well-conceived menu were overshadowed by a lack of execution in my entrée. Still, worth a visit and I will certainly give the place another chance.
The food is exceptionally good. It can get pretty loud inside. The drinks are overpriced on top of being small.
The food is excellent. The restaurant reminds me of high end restaurants in CDMX or Monterrey. The service is great. The servers know the menu well and made great recommendations.
My girlfriend ordered the enchiladas and said they were the best enchiladas she's ever had. I had the short ribs and it was good, but not great. OveralI left feeling a little underwhelmed, especially since I had read such great reviews. Might try it again some other time to explore the menu a little more.
Fantastic food- fresh and original. Charming service in a wide open, light environment.
Our server was outstanding! Well trained and attentive. The meal started very well with good margaritas and flexibility as to setting. The beet salad and avocado stuffed with salmon were quite good. Unfortunately the main courses were nothing special. The grilled shrimp tacos lacked flavor. The chicken enchilada was the same. They are trying to hard to not be spicy and as a result they were bland.
Everything that we ate was beyond exceptional. Definitely try the short rib guiso, and if you leave without trying the riblets, you’re crazy! The carrot habanero soup is amazingly spicy with excellent flavor. We wish we had more room for more food and will definitely be back. Classy service with a smile. Thank you for a fantastic experience!
The service and food were great. The margaritas were EPIC !
I have been to Jose three times now. The atmosphere is nice- the decor and outdoor spaces area great. It's very trendy and the cocktails are great. The service however, is beyond slow. The first time we visited, it was really busy so I was more understanding. The second time it was less busy but we had great company so I wasn't so focused. This third time we went for a late lunch and there were maybe 6 other tables and it was super slow. The food on the first two visits was pretty good- not the best in town, but again we were there for the cool and fun atmosphere. On my visit this last weekend, I decided to go for a salad that sounded really good- grilled chicken, black beans, avocado, roasted corn- I was really excited. When it came, I was convinced I got the wrong thing- it was essentially just romaine and chicken. We told the waiter, and he was nice enough to bring an alternative salad which was still very pathetic. I really wanted to like this place, and gave the poor service the benefit of a doubt, but after this last visit I think I am done trying. It's been open long enough to work the slow service kinks out.
My guy and I went to Josè tonight to check out the debut of AQ Pittman's new menu and all y'all fellow food lovers should add it to your list. I'll be back because I didn't even make it past the small plates and honestly there were still a bunch more of those I wanted to try, too. So I can't speak to the salads or the main dishes, but here are a couple quick thoughts on my first visit:
1) The salsas are perfection. You get two, a red and a green, beautiful opposites of each other. The red is a roasted salsa with deep smokey flavor served warm, while the green is a chilled salsa that smacks your cheeks with the brightness of how much lime is in it. The heat of the red one hits first then mellows; the heat of the green sneaks up on you. Like a warm fall/ winter salsa (red) and a bright spring/summer salsa (green). I am so picky about my chips and salsa, obnoxiously so, and both of these are 10/10. I'd honestly go back just for them.
2) The tortillas are made in-house and if the look of them doesn't give that away, the texture and taste of them will. They made me miss my grandmas, even though neither of my grandmas ever made tortillas.
3) If you are a fan of pork belly, get to Josè and try Pittman's version. It's gorgeous. I love when a chef can take something as rich as pork belly and make it float and melt in your mouth. Magical. (Ok, technically science. But magic is more fun!)
4) If you are a fan of tequila and/or mezcal craft cocktails then you should doubly add this place to your list. Lots of interesting ones to choose from. I had the Mezcalini, which is mezcal with passionfruit, morita pepper syrup, lime, and basil. Aaaaaaand then I had another one because I LOVE a cocktail with some form of pepper in it and great ones can be hard to find.
5) My guy raved about his shrimp tacos so if ya love some tacos.......
The Food & Service was Outstanding!!
Great Vibe to the whole setting 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽Highly recommend you to try their Mezcal Margaritas!!
Most of our items were served cold, even the queso. Sent back two entrees and no apology given.
A rare dining experience where all the elements come together exquisitely.
Sorry to say, but I became very ill shortly after eating there.
Our waiter was awesome
I like the food here...I ordered the Carne Asada and it was tasty...needed a little salt (not on the tables)....salsas are spicy...
Great food! Overall a great dining experience. The central/coastal mexican food focus works very well. My wife loved the seafood enchiladas. Service was good, but got a bit spotty. At one point all the wait staff got trapped taking orders, so we ended up waiting 15 minutes with empty plates for a check. Depsite this we will be back.
I had a really pleasurable time!! My favorite were the fish tacos and house margaritas. The service was excelente the hostess were really sweet and friendly. The guacamole muy deliciosoooo!!!
Good Food, Great atmosphere. Authentic. Service was top notch and pleasant.
Amazing service! Grear Patio ! Food was great ! Big portions.
Had a great experience at José. Friendly staff and authentic Mexican food. No Tex Mex. Recommend a Usual!
very nice building, noisy inside but not oveerly. great take on mexican and tex-mex items
We took our out of town family for dinner. They love Mexican food. We all loved the ambiance and the decor but unfortunately the food was less than desirable. Bland and flavorless chicken as well as little to no flavor or seasoning on the tamales. We loved the chips and salsa but that’s about it.
The tacos, guacamole and house Margaritas are the best! Love the atmosphere too.
We wanted to try a new place to go for Mexican food on a recent visit to Dallas. Had spent a lot of time online going over reviews and commentary and thought that Jose would fit the bill perfectly - seems like people really like it and think the food is really good. On the night we went, think they were just off their game, which sometimes happens. We had the choice of sitting outdoors on the patio with heaters (outside temp was around 50) or could eat inside. Would probably recommend eating inside as the heaters can't handle the chilly air if it is blowing (no screens/fabric around the perimeter, so wind blows right in) and when wind wasn't blowing, heaters got very warm. Service was very, very slow. Took a really long time to get drinks and then a really long time for server to come take our order. Food was fine. Nothing special. So, again, we may have just hit it on an off night (was the night before Thanksgiving), but we won't be running back with so many other good choices in town.
Loved the Ice shots you could throw into a target, enjoyed the fun atmosphere and creative food. We were entertaining out of town guests and it was perfect. Even though there were two large parties next to us our waiter was still available to us. We will return to try more food options!
As always food was great as well as service!
Service is always great, food was good. Drinks and apps are very over-priced.
My enchilada was not hot at lunch, no excuse for that. The filling was barely warm and the corn tortilla was cool. I didn’t send it back because I thought if you can’t do this part right the first time it wasn’t worth the effort.
Always a great neighborhood spot. Queso Panela is a fav.
Excellent. The GM and Chef were wonderful.
I've been looking forward to trying Jose - I had heard good things and they did not disappoint. The food was wonderful and the service was very good. My only complaint is that the drinks are very PRICEY and VERY SMALL -- but they were good. The meal was 25% more than I had anticipated due to the drink cost.
Still, it's very good and we will go back -- just fewer margaritas.
JOSE has been wonderful every time we visit. Our first time here was six months ago and we've been back ten times since. Definitely our new go-to for a date night patio dinner. Lovely scenic atmosphere, great interior and exterior design, very accommodating staff, and delicious food (and MARGS!) :) A true neighborhood gem.
Very creative and tasty menu. I have been multiple times and every item I have had is delicious.
Excellent food and service. Best frozen margarita in Dallas and huge selection of tequilas.
A delicious, fresh and well-crafted brunch and cocktail experience. Fun ambience, perfect outdoor setting when weather allows, great all the way around. Less ‘tex’ than ‘mex’ so not so heavy. Light and bright and modern.
