We were introduced to Jar via a Tastemade feature a few days prior to dining. Needless to say it exceeded our expectations. The staff and manager were engaging through out our dining experience. The pace and flow of ordering and receiving elements of your meal were perfect. I especially enjoyed the Jalapeño Margarita from the bar and the Chopped Sirloin (featured dish on Tastemade). Great ambiance and ideal environment in which to share a meal with family and friends.
Server awesome. Food delicious. Only set back was the noise level.
Love Jar go at least 6 times a year. Great salmon and to die for onion rings
Food is always delicious! It goes beyond expectation!
Great experience, great food and even better service. Highly recommended.
Wow. Still busy and still fantastic food. I don't know how the Chef/Owners keeps it relevant - and amazing - but every time we go to Jar we love it. Kudos
Jar never disappoints. We went early on a Thursday evening because we hadn't been in a while. We sat at the bar. Before ordering, we had drinks and enjoyed the potato chips and nuts they provide at the bar. The restaurant was still fairly quiet when we arrived, although it started to fill up by the time we left. I had the Caesar salad and my husband had the wedge for starters - both excellent, fresh and perfectly dressed. I had the pork chop which is a must, and my husband had the lamb shank special. We have had these entrees before and they more than met our expectations. The owner/chef (Susanne (Tracht) even came out of the kitchen to make sure we were enjoying our meal. We also split an order of creamed spinach- a favorite. We finished with an espresso, for him, and a cappuccino for me. Another great meal at Jar. Of course, we'll be back.
As always Jar is a perfect safe bet for great food and service. I have yet to find anything on the menu that is not absolutely delicious. Service is perfection , seating is comfortable...Never too noisy - never too quiet. A comfortable place to eat and well worth it. Even on holidays, you are never rushed.
Absolutely amazing service by Kevin! The food was incredible and the service was perfect. I highly recommend Jar for an enjoyable dinner with great service and great food.
New year eve dinner was excellent. Service was superb..
Superb comfort food in an elegant setting. Great staff and service.
Great portions! Food tasted great! Chuck our server was gracious and attentive. What drives me crazy is after I buy a few drinks I'm ready for just some good old fashion tap water. Mind you I've blown $100 on just drinks, I am hit with$7 for two tap waters!!!! That has stopped me from going to restaurants in the past and it may prevent me from returning here.
Great restaurant but it's pricey. I ordered a martini and it was $20. Most high end restaurants will charge 14 dollars.
expensive.. high quality.. but not as good as i remmebered from past visits
Excellent all the way around from the cocktails and wine, to the food. Service was impeccable. I must come back to try the fried chicken.
Food and service were outstanding. But the noise level was deffining . Impossible to have a conversation over the noise.
Fabulous dinner on our way to do some Christmas shopping! The entire staff was friendly and attentive. The food was timed perfectly and tasted delicious. This remains one of my favorite places to have dinner in LA.
The best! Always great year in year out!
Excellent friendly service from the time we walked in till we left. One of the best meals and dining experience in LA.
Mom’s birthday. The room is gorgeous and modern. Very quiet. Service is great, food is so good. Can eat healthy, vegetarian, or go full steakhouse fare. My favorite special occasion place in LA.
Jar is an enduring and special place as it has an atmosphere of sophistication while providing a sense of homey comfort all delivered with amazing food.
This has been our go to restaurant for years. It is rare to find a place that is so consistent and welcoming.
Celebrated my dads 95th. Everyone at restaurant was very welcoming and helpful. Thank you
Food was beyond excellent!!!
In an elegant but not too fancy setting, Jar delivers surprisingly large portions of meat and the traditional accompaniments. It’s steakhouse fare done so much better. Throw in a Jar Manhattan cocktail and you’re on the way to a great evening.
Disappointed. Ratings are overstated. Nice people. Cozy. Again, way overrated. Food below avg. for this price point. Seems like a surviving little spot for local regulars.
Excellent meal, I'd go back in a minute. I've know of this restaurant forever but somehow never made it there!
Loved our evening at Jar. Delicious food, great atmosphere and attentive service.
we have been to Jar many times and it has been good to very good. Their Thanksgiving dinner was not thought out well. Limited menu choices, even for Thanksgiving. I knew we were in trouble when they put down a very small rectangular plate. The soup was cold. The Turkey and what they considered stuffing was tasteless, and cold. Mashed Potatoes and Potato Au Gratin? No Yams. Tiny portion of pumpkin pie. Also had to wait 45 minutes for reservation. Very disappointing. Looks like they were making an assembly line for the bucks, and no consideration for their usual top food.
I'll probably go back for pot roast and budino, but never again on a holiday
I went to Jar because A Magazine recommended it for Thanksgiving. We were seated on time and the staff did all they could to make the evening special. The biggest problems were it was so loud it was difficult to talk with the person I was dining with. Food delivery wasn't slow, but it wasn't prompt either -- there was too much time before the first course came and it didn't improve a lot. The worst thing was that the food arrived at the table warm, and for turkey, scallop potatoes and things like that it could hardly have been much worse. The staff seemed stretched and stressed but I would be guessing to say why, but clearly the kitchen wasn't prepared to serve up the food and have it delivered to tables promptly. My dinner companion and I live close by so we didn't feel like we had made a big effort. The cost of the meal was high considering what was prepared. There was more entree and side dishes that two people could eat but then the dessert was skimpy.
We went to JAR because of the great reviews. While waiting to be seated, we could see diners packed into every inch of space. The noise level was high and the lighting was oddly dim (?). It was soon clear the restaurant was seriously understaffed. After my friend ordered a drink, it took 15 minutes for me to flag down a waiter to order mine. Sitting with our drinks, we waited and waited. People who had arrived after us were being served. We asked for bread and each got a cold, dry roll (old?) with no butter. When the 1st courses finally came, my friend's soup was lukewarm and my lettuce salad with radishes had one radish (rationed?). We waited again. It was about 2 hours after we'd arrived and everyone nearby was either finishing dinner or had left. We complained and the manager apologized. Frustrated, we were standing up prepared to walk out when the main course arrived. Though the cranberry sauce was served properly, the turkey slices on top of bland stuffing, mashed potatoes, collard greens and stuffed onions weres lukewarm and got cold quickly. A sweet potato au gratin side dish and the "coffee or tea," both included on the prix fixe, were never served. Our desserts, a sliver of ordinary pumpkin pie and my friend's butterscotch pudding, ended a lackluster holiday meal. The restaurant comped our drinks, our waiter was nice, and everyone was pleasant, however, besides our endless wait, the holiday dinner was seriously overpriced at $95 before tax and tip. How does this restaurant gets 5-star reviews?
I really like Jar. The food is always delicious and the service is great. The atmosphere is old school cool. Love the ambiance, it's a neighborhood gem. I always recommend this restaurant to my friends.
Jars a great restaurant food is amazing and services always up to pair
Everything here is wonderful. Decor, ambience, service and of course the food. Consistently solid meal with service that makes you feel like a dignitary.
OMG! Why do I not go to this restaurant more often?? It was amazing!!
We had an amazing meal at Jar! There were at least a dozen "off the menu" specials and we started w/ stuffed squash blossoms, an amazing lobster & watermelon salad, and the crab deviled eggs. Our mains were a perfect ribeye steak, seared scallops, and a really tender pork chop. Dessert was the butterscotch pudding and toffee bread pudding. Everything was incredibly tasty and perfectly cooked - it was a wonderful meal! Now I know why my friends have been raving about this place for years!
Five happy dinners. Definitely going again... And again
Love this restaurant
Celebrated my partner ‘s birthday here. What I first noticed was the ambience, it was so calm and intimate. Not noisy at all which we like. Food was fantastic, service was awesome. Will definitely go back!
