   Wonderful anniversary dinner: knowledgeable and friendly service, creative food, and transporting wine pairings. Though the prix fixe was the right way to experience Iron Gate the first time we would not do it again. The quantities are so generous that even us foodies were done after the first course. Next time: a handful of appetizers, the stars of the show, some of those great looking cocktails and either a main or dessert.

   Don’t think twice about going to Iron Gate. The entire experience there was A+. The food, the atmosphere, the service was top notch, but really, the food is absolutely amazing. I am eager to go back. I splurged on the tasting menu with wine pairings. So worth it!!!

   I love this place. I went for my birthday and everyone was so nice. Atmosphere is stunning, food is amazing, I couldn’t be happier. The waiter gave me a handwritten thank you note and a little dessert. If you have the chance to go here in the summer, do it. I’ve been here in the dead of winter and it’s also very cozy with its fire pits. Seriously, I drive 90 miles to eat here and I’ll stay at a hotel just for a meal here.

   We specifically went to Iron Gate for outdoor seating. I arrived early (5 PM) to confirm for the reservation at 5:30 for outdoor seating. YET they sat us inside. Then did a shaming sales job of everyone eating family table “you’re not from here … 99% of our patrons order that way.”

    Our bad experience started when we arrived. 10 minutes late which I called in and the table was not ready. I assume they changed our table when they saw that we have a toddler and a baby with us. Instead of seating us outside we were seated in a freezing indoor room. Asking about an outdoor table as it’s too cold do the little ones they said fully booked but the same five tables were still empty when we left the restaurant. Service was slow and random, Food before drinks, nobody checked on us, our main waitress was not to be seen until after we finished our food . Servers seemed pretty annoyed. Our kids were quieter than the regular guests but I can only assume they really don’t want kids in the restaurant. It’s too bad, because food was very good and the outdoor ambience is beautiful which I know from a previous visit to the restaurant.

    Iron Gate is simply one of the best restaurants in Washington DC. If you’re looking for something different, with an unmatched ambience, Iron Gate is great for romantic evenings or casual business dinners. The food is always on point and once again did not disappoint.

    Our server, Chris, was wonderful! Explained the tasting menu and helped us make selections. He shared interesting information about the history of the historic building and restaurant. He even told us some ghost stories! The food was excellent! The meat entree portions were a little skimpy for 4. We are glad we celebrated at The Iron Gate!

    We got engaged at the Iron Gate Inn 25 years ago and have visited periodically since. The ownership has changed from our original visit a couple of times and we still remember when the entry was all outside (it's now been enclosed to house a bar - but done quite tastefully), but we recently revisited to celebrate our anniversary and the new chef/staff were absolutely outstanding. Couldn't have asked for better. The dishes just kept coming and the service was high caliber. It's wonderful to know that somethings just get better with age...and I'm not just referring to my wife and I. ; )

    I’ve been here several times, and service this time was not good. Not attentive - very slow coming to order drinks and long delay in bringing the entree course. We got overcharged for drinks that we did not have, which took about 15 minutes to correct. No apology, no explanation. Will not be returning any time soon.

    We did the tasting menu and that’s definitely the way to go. We agreed this meal was definitely in the top 5 ever. Really good looking wine list; I need to return when I’m not pregnant so I can partake. I did have a great mocktail though!

    I loved the decor and all the different seating areas they had available. There really is a setting to fit every occasion. The service started out slow, but I think our server was sat 3-4 tables simultaneously. He was very knowledgeable about the food and wine offerings. The food was outstanding! We thoroughly enjoyed the apps, entree and dessert. The in house seasoning as a gift was a nice touch. We have used it already at home. When in DC, I definitely recommend this restaurant.

    I've been here several times before and enjoyed it. This time was different. My wife and I got the chef's table and I wish we hadn't. It was mediocre at best. Also very expensive. Including tip and two pre-meal drinks, I dropped about $350. This included wine which was about $72. Maybe the most offensive part of this experience was the rats that were watching us eat. There's got to be a way to keep the rats from getting too comfortable (perhaps some cats would do the trick). When you drop this kind of coin you expect better.

    This was such a delightful experience, start to finish. The food was amazing, one of the best meals I've had in a while... flavors, ingredients, the flow of dishes, etc. We were there celebrating our anniversary and they definitely went out of the way to celebrate with us with extra dessert and sparkling wine!     The food was quite good, overall. A bit too much oil/fat used in cooking/sauces. For example. the mushroom sandwich on the brunch menu was saturated with oil and the bread was overcooked/toasted. The French toast could have used more strawberries, not much flavor otherwise. The gnocchi were quite good.

    We dined there tonight to celebrate my father’s birthday. Despite having a 615 (early) reservation, when we arrived, we had to wait 20 minutes for our table. We included a note in the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, and the server, upon greeting our table, asked if we we’re celebrating a special event and was informed it was my father’s birthday. We were expecting a candle in one of the two desserts the table ordered or some other acknowledgement. While the evening was fine otherwise, we can’t consider this a special occasion restaurant. My father traveled in from out of town for this meal, and I was frankly embarrassed.
