    This restaurant was lovely, the ambiance was great, the food delicious. The only negative comment I would make is about the over zealous service. We had hardly finished eating something when the plate was whipped away. In fact my husband hadn't finished eating and they wanted to take my dish away and I asked them to wait. To go to a lovely restaurant like this and to be finished in just over an hour (for a 3 course meal) is ridiculous. If we wanted a fast food restaurant we would have gone elsewhere.

    Second time we have eaten here. Food was again excellent. Service could be improved. Our server never checked on us after the main course was served and waters were not refilled until after we were done eating. Aranchini starter was enjoyed by all. Everyone at the table opted for pasta dishes and we were all happy with our choices (papardelle Bolognese was very good). Gluten free pasta option with no up charge which was nice. Be aware that a 20% service charge is included on the bill for party of any size.

    I ordered the Pollo Milanese and my husband had the lamb. His dish was quite good but my chicken breast had been pounded flatter than a pancake, was dry and completely tasteless without a hint of seasoning. Adding salt at the table and squeezing the provided lemon on the chicken couldn’t rescue it. The waitstaff were all polite to a fault but without knowledge of the basics of serving such as where to place ordered drinks on the table in front of guests, to bring dessert and coffee out at the same time, not as separate courses, and to bring sugar and spoons to the table when serving coffee without having to be prompted.

    This was my first visit to Il Piatto — and it won’t be my last. The service by Alberto and his team was outstanding — attentive and responsive, highly knowledgeable and gracious. Alberto’s recommendations were impeccable and the kitchen’s execution of the chef’s creations was sheer perfection. The pera in camicia salad was fantastic, the portion was perfect for a starter, and it was elegantly presented. The gnocchi in a San Marzano tomato and mushroom sauce was absolutely delicious, perfectly proportioned, and the epitome of comfort food on this blustery and cold DC evening. The bread was a lovely and delicious balance of crusty and delicate — the perfect accompaniment to the gnocchi. The brûlée cheesecake was very good — truly, the amaretti cookie crust was the best part and I almost never like the crusts on cheesecakes. After the salad, gnocchi, and bread, the mid-size portion was sufficient. Honestly, I’m ashamed to admit it, but I didn’t even finish it — which is unheard of for me! Bravo to the chef, kitchen team, waitstaff, and especially Alberto. This was a wonderful dining experience. Note — I’ll admit, I was full of good expectations when I arrived but I started to question whether I had made the right choice between BLT Steak or Il Piatto when the hostess seemed to have a judge-y attitude because I was a solo diner. I’m glad I stayed and fulfilled my reservation despite her ungracious and unfriendly attitude because Alberto and his team ensured my experience exceeded my expectations. I applaud this great team and hope the restaurant recognizes them for their excellence. They are wonderful ambassadors for the brand. Grazie Mille, Il Piatto!

    I felt as if I were Royalty. The service was impeccable. The bottomless mimosa brunch was delicious. I enjoyed that there were 4 flavor options for the mimosas. I've not had that option at other upscale restaurants. The menu for the brunch was quite unique. I really enjoyed that. My friend and I shared our duffrent choices in appetizers and the main course, and truly enjoyed the mango sorbet for dessert. The entire event did not disappoint! I can t wait to introduce this restaurant to all of my girlfriends. It will be fun to come back and have this dining experience with them individually. Keep up the great work Il Piatto!

    The brunch was underwhelming. The mimosa flavors literally all tasted the same. The pasta was bland and no variety of egg options, if you don’t like poached then you won’t like this brunch

    I ordered short ribs with polenta. There was almost no polenta, I needed it because the meat was very salty. Chicken parm too salty, but good portion. Salmon was ok, but the side dish was too small. I would definitely stay away from dessert. Most of it tiny and was not made there. They were little glass cups of dessert from Costco. Would not go back. Our server was great though. Very attentive and pleasant.

    Overall I had a horrible first and last time I don’t recommend going to this restaurant if you prefer dining alone they will treat you like you are invisible. Service was mediocre, I had the 3 course brunch never made it to the third because when I went to the bathroom my table was cleaned off without me knowing the manager also is clearly not about true customer service he didn’t offer anything to fix the issue I had already paid the money which I shouldn’t have. Anyways if you are a solo date kinda girl or guy I DONT RECOMMEND

    I have eaten at IL Piatto three times in the past six months. Food was amazing each time; however, the service on my last visit was horrible. We needed to repeatedly ask for bread, water, to place dessert order and for someone to take the check. The underlying issue appeared to be that the bartender was also serving as a waiter and was getting stuck at the bar. Very disappointing given the price point of the restaurant. This was becoming my go to place to bring groups of 6-8 diners, but I am reconsidering that now after my last experience.

    Food was just ok, ambiance was nice, service was very spotty. One persons salad came out with all the entrees, he sent his entree back to be visibly sitting under the heat lamp while he ate and finished his salad, then had to wait about 10 minutes for his entree to be brought back to him. I guess we expected more.

    Food was very good but the portion was small. I don’t like that they add 20% automatically for the tip. If they want to add 20% so they have a more normal standard of living and they should just increase their pay.

    I stopped by this restaurant for a simple Italian meal of pasta. While I was able to get this, and as a very healthy eater normally appreciate a normal portion size, the portion that I received for a fairly good amount of money I was able to eat in only about 4-5 bites. My server did ask me if there was anything he could do about it, but I honestly told him that unless he could bring me out the same amount of pasta again for free, there was nothing that could be done. The food was very good, but even as a patron who appreciates small portions, this was much to small even for me.

    The food was wonderful - however I can't give this more than 2 - 3 stars total because the service was miserable and just marred our evening out. Our appetizers were in front of us within five minutes, but we waited another 10 for our drinks. Then the food came and the pretense of being waited on disappeared. A second round of drinks finally arrived as we were finishing our meal - although at least three people did come to our table to assure us that it would be "soon" - When the check arrived, it was wrong, so we were comped our drinks. Comped our drinks??? Big deal, considering the mark-up on alcohol. To add insult to injury, the bill included a 20% service charge. What service?

    Went here for an anniversary dinner. The meal was fantastic and the service was astounding; our glasses were never half full! We had an appetizer, our main courses, wine and dessert; prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality of food. There is a 20% service fee included in the bill but it is well worth it, given the service they provide. We walked out of Il Piato extremely satisfied and excited to come back. Would recommend to anyone looking for an authentic Italian restaurant in DC!

    Absolutely incredible experience. My fiancee and I had a wonderful time, we split a bottle of wine and just had a blast. The Brûlée Cheesecake ended the night beautifully, left that night with great memories and a happy anniversary to the two of us. :)

    I usually come here every other month or so, and have decent service. The brunch experience however was poor. Walking into the restaurant with a reservation I didn’t feel welcome at all. Granted we were late, however the hostess’ were curt with us. Service at the table was lackluster as well. I assume since gratuity is added to the check the service was quite bad from our server. The reason for the twenty percent was justifiable, however it creates less incentive to provide stellar service. Just overall experience was unenjoyable. Most likely won’t be back.

    Service overall was good, I was having brunch with my family. My father doesn’t drink and the server basically forced him to get a drink. To be fair we did bottomless and I understand that the whole table has to do it but we still would’ve paid for the whole bottomless option even if he wasn’t drinking. just kind of annoying.

    Nice spot. I got fettuccine with sausage it was very salty but the flavor was okay. I was surprised that the restaurant puts a 20% surcharge on every bill. They say it is to increase the staff’s wages above DC minimum but I think the restaurant should pay its staff a fair wage, not artificially reduce their prices and then make customers foot the bill for their payroll.
