Hartsyard is an award winning restaurant located in the heart of Newtown. Owned and operated by Australian born Jarrod Walsh and Hong Kong raised Dorothy Lee, whom have both worked in some of the best restaurants in Australia. Our philosophy is to showcase the best local produce Australia has to offer and tie that in with asian flavours and techniques. Our ever changing menu is inspired by the changing seasons so every experience will differ! We offer both an al a carte and set menu with the option for matched beverages.

Hartsyard is set on Enmore road embracing the neighbourhood vibe in a relaxed casual environment. We have limited outside seating in the warmer months. Hartsyard is only a two minute walk from Newtown station.

We were rushed through our meal in an hour (including a bottle of wine!) Our plates were cleared the moment we put our fork down - in one case my husband's plate was taken before he had finished the meal. We had 5 courses land on the table one after the other - too rushed.

Restaurant busy with nice enough seating (perhaps too bright for my liking). Service was good with nice staff.
Menu is very underwhelming. The three of us did not eat red meat so had the veg and fish/seafood dishes and the flavours and combinations were underwhelming, not creative and overall not special at all.
Wine list was good with a good range of prices to choose from.
Unfortunately when the competition for Sydney restaurants is so fierce, this restaurant does not stand out and I will not be visiting again.

I had visited last year and the restaurant was fabulous. Food was great and service perfect. However I have since learnt that management has changed hands and this makes sense given the experience we had. While the service was great and the atmosphere was lively the food was really sub par - like charred broccoli and a sauce I could have made myself, and leeks which were sloppy and tasted......just like boiled leeks. mY husband and one of our other friends ended up having a stomach problems the next day. I wouldn't complain this vigorously if it was cheap and cheerful but it set us back at $120 pp. Won't go again.

The flavours were unexpected and pleasantly surprised us. Each dish presented us with something new to experience. Both of us love to cook so it is always a delight to eat somewhere that explores food texture, flavours and combinations that we would not necessarily think could partner together. Thank you for a memorable evening. The music could be a little more muted.

Hi Mr Rorrison, Glad you reviewed, -You were 30 MINS LATE (peak time sat night) -You complained there's NO FRIED CHICKEN(hasn't been on menu for 2 years). You easily could've researched online but you didn't. -You complained the WAGYU steak price $38. The owner spent 10 mins explaining it is a reasonable price for Sydney restaurants. Yet you repeatedly ignored her advise on other items to match your budget. -Oporto is next door. -You didn't order any food so how can this review be accurate.

Outstanding service from friendly staff who went above and beyond expectations. Delicious, complex and varied food that was reasonably priced and portioned perfectly. Drinks list looked great as well though we are only really beer drinkers.

This was our first time to Hartsyard and we found it very good. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. We had the zucchini salad then duck cumquat with togarashi plus calamari with sake butter, fried bread and sansho za'atar. The calamari was not what we expected, although quite unique, but we both said we probably wouldn't order that again. We weren't expecting traditional calamari but it didn't quite hit the mark for us and maybe it needs to be more thoroughly explained at time of ordering. The wine list was extensive and my WA Rose was very good. We would go back but there is a lot of competition on this strip, so it would be very wise for the restaurant to keep well in tune with what inner West diners are seeking.

Everything was so delicious, the waiter was informed and knowledgeable, we were already talking about our next visit before we left, and were thinking about the favorite dishes the next. Highly recommend.

Fabulous restaurant! Went with a group of friends, couple of vegetarians and a gluten free, accommodated us all! Wonderful service. Amazing food! Will be back for sure. Keep up the good work

My husband love the pork and it was the most delicious dish! I'm not surprised he wanted to come back for it. The other dishes I thought were a little too clever and lacking in substance and balance. Our waitress was lovely, great service all around. Perhaps my husbands cup of tea rather than mine.

Fantastic and friendly service with a great atmosphere. Delicious meals with 2 flavorsome dishes to remember. The fried cheese; of tapioca, gouda cheese and gruyere cheese fried together with a dallop of hot mustard brings. The delicious hanger steak topped with melt in your mouth ox tongue cooked to perfection and amazing in taste.

Amazing food - what a dining experience. Every dish was delicious with unique use of ingredients. The Kangaroo tartare was beautiful, the Kingfish was outstanding and you must try the zucchini. I would rate Hartsyard ahead of any of the 2/3 hat restaurants in Sydney. Do yourself a favour and make sure you try this restaurant at least once in your life.

Took my pregnant best friend for her birthday, they even brought out her dessert with a candle 'twas lovely. The staff were amazing and hospitable, the food unique and delicious; the overall experience was super impressive. Thanks so much.

Always love Hartsyard. I haven't been for a while so was surprised by the less than vegetarian/vegan menu that I had been enjoying previously. I am also allergic to seafood, so was a bit of a challenge to come up with dishes that work for me, a lot included seafood - furitake, anchovies (butter) and kelp as well as the actual seafood dishes. Having said this, the service was incredibly helpful. Not sure though I will return, which is a shame.....a few more dishes for the vego's will tempt me back.

Hartsyard never disappoints. Food is delicious, staff are friendly and, on a Wednesday night, atmosphere has bustle but not too noisy that you can't hear your friends.

The food was delicious and interesting, without being too fussy or too minimalist (we weren't hungry). The service was friendly, and the menu was adapted to our requests without any fuss. The delivery was brisk, and although we had the chef's menu, we were out within 2 hours as promised. The seats were a little hard, so although it might have been nice to linger over desert, we were pretty happy to be sent on our way.

We had a wonderful experience at Hartsyard. We were a group of 11, and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were attentive, and accommodating of all our dietaries and answered all of our questions. They even made space for a couple of late comers that joined just for a drink at the end of the meal. The food selection was delicious and plentiful - we were all very satisfied! Thank you.

The food is good and fresh but the service is a bit intense, every 30 seconds someone came to refill our water. When you're in the middle of a story and get interrupted it is a bit annoying. I think the servers need to read people a little better. Otherwise it was really great, especially the atmosphere.
