   My husband and I usually love our experience at Hapa, we always refer to it as, “our place”. The ambiance, drinks and food are usually great, but Valentine’s Day was a horrible experience. I’d made a reservation in advance as I knew it’d be busy, but upon arrival they sat us in the back room with fluorescent lighting and so many tables crammed into the small space, side by side, that it was uncomfortable to get to and sit on the booth side since the tables were maybe a foot apart (so tight the server had to speak over my husband’s shoulder and pass us our drinks and food over is shoulder as well). We couldn’t enjoy each other’s company as we could barely hear each other across the table; conversation filled the small room and since we were so close to the tables on either side of us I could hear every piece of their conversation, it was awkward to say the least! I couldn’t wait to eat and get out of there. I always get the Island Flirt cocktail and the one I had was not refreshing or tasty like usual, it tasted like syrup flavoring and was really tart. Our edamame had no flavor, the sushi was okay other than a few pieces unraveling here and there. Overall a horrible dining experience for Valentine’s Day. Hapa wanted to to cash in for Valentine’s Day and did so at the expense of its customer’s dining experience.

    Great food, as always. Pretty consistent over all locations, but the LODO location seems to bet marginally better. Server was non-present for most of the meal and we had to ask other employees multiple time to hunt her down for additional items, purchases, check and payment. Ambivalent to the point of rudeness. Pretty sure she flipped me off right to my face and played dumb about it. Pretty much ruined the experience, but the food is great.

    The food was great! However, the young employees had music blaring out of the kitchen. They also carried on conversations between the sushi bar and the floor that were so loud you could hardly hear the person across from the table. The server was horrible! Forgot half our food and had to order it again. Then it sat on the sushi bar for 10 minutes before she came out and gave it to us, then made a comment that she was surprised no one else delivered it to us. Had to ask her to remove empty dishes from the table and had to ask for a refill every time one was needed. Expected a little more out of the service given the $150 bill.

    Hapa Sushi downtown is style over substance. The sushi is very average, but the service is awful. I waited 10 minutes after being seated for a server to approach my table. After the food was delivered, I didn’t see my server again and had to poke my head into the kitchen to ask for the check. There’s much better sushi around Denver than Hapa.

    Went to Hapa before a DCPA matinee. Was excited as it has always been on my list of restaurants to try. Service was a little slow (took 15 mins to order and another 20-25 mins to get our food) and I noted tables that were seated after us got their food before us. We ordered a beer, salad, Colorado hamachi, sushi sampler, and chirashi bowl. Salad came out first (15 mins after ordering). Beer came out with the rest of the order, but no soup was served. Asked the server about it and was told that she would bring it out for the chirashi bowl ($28), but that the sushi sampler (also $28) was only the sushi itself even though it was listed under the "lunch special" section where it said "below lunch specials served with miso soup". She told me that it was a weird rule her manager set but that she would give me one free of charge. The rule is ok to have, but definitely misleading and would need to be advertised better. To have the chirashi bowl and the sushi sampler the same price while the sampler had a cali roll with 6 pieces of nigiri and not a soup is puzzling to me. The food was good, but just disappointed with the experience itself. Might give a different Hapa location a try.

    Very slow service. Lots of waiting for drinks and food. The upstairs dining area lacks atmosphere. Food expensive for what you are getting. The holiday margarita I drank was so full of ice in a small glass for $14, I was done in a few sips.

    They now use cheap sushi rice. I can taste the difference. It has been about 4 years since we last visited and we were very disappointed in the quality of sushi rice and sushi. The spicy tuna has very little spice or flavor. Very bland all around. Even the seasoned edamame.

    Enjoyed dinner with a friend on a special occasion. We tried three different flights of sake, servers were excellent and attentive, the Omakase we enjoyed was creative. Enjoyed sitting at the bar and having Jeremy create a customized sushi experience for us.
