GT Fish and Oyster
What Insiders Are Saying
GT Fish & Oyster is ideal for those who like all the pleasures of the sea. Mandatory oysters to start.
As usual a wonderful experience with wonderful food and staff. It’s one of our favorite restaurants in the city.
The restaurant location, ambiance, and food were simply amazing.
Great service. Food delicious except fish in fish taco was charred to the point of tasting burned.
The appetizers were delicious and all main courses were excellent. Trout can often be a bit boring but not the way they prepare it here. It was delicious! Our service was good and I love the design of the restaurant. We’ll be back.
Excellent crab cakes! Loved the modern atmosphere and cocktails. We will definitely return for special occasions.
Best caviar ever and the blinis were also great. Oysters were all good.
Was told we would have the private room downstairs and upon arriving had the bait and switch. No heads up and no explanation why we didn’t have it. Buyer beware I guess?
It’s one of the best restaurants in Chicago!! Don’t miss this one...you won’t be disappointed !
This is where I was introduced to the OYSTER experience! And it was love at first sight. I took my hub back as a surprise date and was so glad we enjoyed our third dining visit there! Definitely going back for oysters and drinks! Oh and there shrimp avocado plate was aaaaaamazing
Food & service were great. My only criticism is that it was very noisy.
Waited 30 minutes beyond reservation time for our table. Restaurant was freezing and no one addressed it as promised.
The hostess is a bit "removed" from her interactions. There was no attempt to dialogue about our choice to try GT or inquire about our preferences for seating. Once we were seated, Hannah, was a friendly and attentive server. Oysters were ok. Had to ask for and "wait" awhile for bread. Appreciate those bussing the tables. The broccoli side dish was an interesting presentation but broccoli could have been cooked a bit more and was expecting more flavorful dish and server could have elaborated on the ingredients. The fish tacos were flavorful but were falling apart.
Delicious food and drinks with outstanding service. I cant wait to go back!
Went to spend time with family including my grandma. Unfortunately it was soo cold in the restaurant we all wished we had coats on. The waiter was excellent about adjusting the temp and the service in general was great. The food was AMAZING. I recommend for great food and drinks sans any pretentiousness.
Arrived late because of traffic but got seated right away
This review is a bit hard to write because there were really high highs and very low lows. I ordered the soft shell crab which was terrible. The Mac n cheese was delicious. I had the opportunity to try my friends lobster roll and halibut both were delicious. Our server Nick was absolutely wonderful! I highly recommend him to anyone going. Unfortunately the hostess had a very nasty attitude. My party size changed last minute, which is not uncommon in the restaurant industry, she was very upset. I did not understand why she expressed such distaste, this is not the kind of energy a customer should experience especially not on one’s birthday. Her attitude ruin the experience for me. I will never dine in again, if I decide to come back for the lobster roll I will order take out.
The food was delicious and so pretty!! The waitstaff was very attentive in helping me pick out gluten free items from the menu, which there were so many options! Overall, a great experience and would highly recommend
The service was great! Scott was excellent! The oysters were superb as was the rest of the food we ordered. There was a lot of space so it was very kid friendly as well, where we could slide in a few strollers and be comfortable.
My wife and I went here most recently for our anniversary. It’s quickly become one of our go to date night places.
Food and experience exceeded expectations, would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.
I have eaten at many restaurants in my life, including Eleven Madison Park and other Michelin starred restaurants, and I can wholeheartedly say that my server Brennan F., was the best I have ever had. He was incredibly attentive and engaging. He was there when you needed him but not overbearing. He offered excellent, spot-on recommendations without being overly diplomatic. The hostess was also great at accommodating us as we arrived early and the food was exactly what we wanted: Oysters. I was in Chicago on vacation during Memorial Day weekend and was craving oysters. They had an excellent raw bar and 6 varieties of Oysters. The Strawberry Key Lime Pie was also excellent. I will definitely come back each time I visit Chicago.
Had a lovely time and everyone made my husband’s birthday special from the menu to the candle in the dessert. Thanks so much!
The service was excellent and everything we ordered was terrific. Interesting combinations and plating. Particularly loved the Thai coconut soup, soft shell crab entree and the eggplant with hoison side dish. All were delicious. The problem was the noise level. We were in the main dining room at a table for two and could not hear each other across the table. We left to have dessert and coffee elsewhere because we were uncomfortable with the noise level.
The waitstaff were excellent and friendly. Our glasses never emptied. The food was excellent! I highly recommend GT Fish and Oyster.
One of my favorite restaurants in the city. The food is outstanding and the service is some of the best you will find anywhere. The tastes of all the dishes are explosive and super complex in a good way. No detail is overlooked and always a treat to be able to dine here. Will be back soon!!!
We were recommended the restaurant in our hotel, so knew nothing about it before we went. The restaurant isn't in the prettiest area of Chicago but once inside the experience was excellent. The food was spectacular, the wine list reasonably priced and the ambience welcoming. The service was friendly and knowledgeable (and they expertly catered for a coeliac). I will definitely go again.
Outstanding food, excellent and timely service, overall wonderful dining experience.
I always have a hard time deciding what to order, everything on the menu seems delicious! I’m glad my friends wanted to share both the starters and the mains, so that I got to taste multiple dishes. The mussels are incredibly good! I can also highly recommend the tuna poke and the shrimp crostinis.
Way overpriced. Lobster Benedict was too rich. $7 for carbonated water.
Amazing food and service!
Delicious beautiful ambiance; great meeting spot for brunch!
Impeccable seafood with great service. The place is small and lively. At the table we shared a number of plates starting with the oysters, wedge salad, muscles, snapper ceviche and halibut. the halibut dish could have perhaps benefited from contrasting texture or little touch of spice- our opinions were split.
Food is always on point. It’s amazing how good everything is there consistently. A gem of Chicago for sure!
the lobster bisque was phenomenal. We went for happy hour oysters at the bar which were also very good. Overall the place is a bit pricey but very good food.
Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. From the welcome at the host stand to our goodbye at the end of the meal and everything in between was top notch. Our server was personable, extremely knowledgeable, and on top of every point of service. The support staff was equally notable, professional, fast, kept our table clean, and made us feel at ease. And the food was out of this world! Every bite, the salt of the oysters, the pepper on the mussels, the authenticity of the lobster roll and perfection of the desserts. What a fabulous meal. I hope to be back again the next time I am in Chicago!
The seafood was very good. It is a tapas-style restaurant, so be ready for that. It is best to get a bunch of things to try out and share. The trout was excellent.
I was contacted several times by various staff members about my experience. They are going above and beyond to make up to me the mistake that was made on their end. Prior to our visit I made it clear that my party did not want to dine in the basement. And believe me I made it very clear that I would not dine at the restaurant if my party was seated at a table in the basement. Well my party was seated in the basement. I did stay because several members of my party who were visiting from New York had already been seated. My brother in law's 89 yr. old mother had already made the difficult journey down the stairs and we all made a decision that now that she was seated we were not going to have her move upstairs. It is like being seated in a jail setting and your in solitary confinement when you dine in the basement. And because it is low ceilings in the basement the music is too loud. Way to go to make out Mother's Day experience a disappointing one and to have my out of town guest ask me why I choose this restaurant. The staff has reached out to me and yes they are trying to make it up to me but it still was a terrible dining experience.
Great experience! Food was excellent as usual.
Great service and recommendations by server were excellent.
