Girl & the Goat opened in 2010 with the goal of serving a family style menu of tasty, bold flavored foods in a fun and lively setting. To enhance the experience we offer a selection of wines from around the world with a focus on small producers, a rotating list of craft beers, and a list of fun cocktails created by our bartenders. Reservations are encouraged for our dining room, our bar is always available for walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan. Please note: as a way to offset rising costs associated with the restaurant (food, beverage, labor, benefits, supplies), we have added a 3% surcharge to all checks.     I NEVER write reviews but feel compelled to write one after my dinner last night. I have been wanting to try this place since it opened and have always heard good feedback. When I planned a girls’ weekend in Chicago, I immediately made a reservation. So about 2 months in advance of our trip, I grabbed a 9:00pm time-slot. When we arrived, our table wasn’t ready and we were sent to the bar. This was fine but we had to go over to the host about 30 minutes later to ask if our table was ready which it was. When we finally sat down around 9:30, the waiter came over and did his sales pitch (which felt very memorized) and proceeded to tell us that we should order 8 plates for 4 people and that we had to put in all 8 orders at the same time as opposed to pacing ourselves and ordering a couple at a time. We took his recommendation and placed our order of 8 plates. I asked if I could swap the goat with chicken in the empanadas and he said I couldn’t. This was surprising seeing that this is a James Beard restaurant with a reputable chef. After placing our order, they brought out 6 of the 8 dishes within 5-10 minutes, almost as if they were pre-prepared and simply heated up. After eating 6 dishes, we were very full. While regretting that we ordered so many, we sat patiently waiting for the last two dishes. It took over an hour for these to be prepared and served to us. They were green beans and chicken skewers so nothing too complicated. When we inquired about where the dishes were, the server said it was too late to cancel the order and that they were coming right up. At this point, it was about 11pm. We asked if we could take them as a takeout meal. He was appalled by this idea but agreed. Overall, the restaurant felt very poorly run and our server had a very condescending tone which is disappointing for an almost $600 meal. I also didn’t love the ambiance. The are plenty of amazing restaurants in Chicago who get it right. I will never come back to this place.

    I am taking every person I know individually at a time to the place because they deserve to experience to taste vegetables and pork shank they way this place makes them. You’ll be happy you have taste buds. So f’n delicious and the atmosphere is amazing.

    Wait staff were great but hostess were incredibly rude. They harassed us twice approaching us before we sat our table to say we have to leave by 6:30 We had been there for five minutes and already pestering us twice about needing to leave! Restaurant was also so loud it was hard to hear and very warm. Food was good not great and the service left a bad taste in my mouth. Overall, not worth the hype or hassle.

    We had a fabulous time again at Girl & the Goat! Highly recommend the chickpea fritters and naan and dips. Goat empanadas and pork belly were wonderful as usual too! Great service and drinks made it a perfect evening!

    This place has been on my bucket list forever and it did not disappoint! I’ve been following Stephanie’s career since her season of Top Chef and it was so exciting to finally make it here! The food was incredible- such unique flavors and spices. The hamachi crudo, chicken skewers and green beans were my top three favorites. The desserts were also Devine. I wish I remembered the name of our server because he was excellent and made the entire experience so much better! I can’t recommend this place enough!

    Wonderful experience. Our first but not our last, visit! The excellent service was surpassed by the excellent food. We shared each plate and enjoyed all of them. Highly recommended!

    First time here and definitely one of the best restaurants in Chicago if not the country. Seriously. Food was amazingly delicious and service was impeccable. Not an inexpensive place to dine but in keeping with its unique menu. You need to make reservations far in advance because of its reputation but it is worth the wait.

    YUM YUM YUM roasted pig face. Delicious food that makes me pause and marvel and what's going on inside my mouth. A bit of a noisy ambiance, but very family friendly, date-accommodating, midwest trendy-ish. Go!

    The food was outstanding & we really enjoyed our evening @ Girl & The Goat until the end. The waitress made a mistake and double-booked our check. The F&B manager’s reaction was extremely poor: rather than apologizing, a matter-of-fact answer “it will be fine and cancelled by tomorrow. ($500!) Here’s my card, you call me if it doesnt work”. -> A proper, professional F&B manager would have a) apologized for the inconvenience, b) taken our contact details to contact us the following day to ensure that the double booking was deleted and c) offered a digestif as an apology -> please note that we did still pay full gratuity AND your surplus charge! A pity to end the night like that. Also: you might want to lower the music so that guests don’t have to shout at each other at the table.
