Girl & the Goat
Located at 809 W Randolph, Girl & the Goat was one of the first establishments in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor. We offer a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help. Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.
What Insiders Are Saying
One of the most well known restaurants in Chicago, and one that lives up to the hype.
Sat at the chefs table which very entertaining and an added plus to the delicious food.
The service was great! The food was ok, the portion size was tiny for the pork belly!
Eat restaurant in Chicago hands down! I have to stop by every time Im in town.
Chris was a fantastic waiter and the restaurant made this an amazing experience (birthday). The food and drinks were unbelievable
Great service from Jake and incredible food. Taste is fantastic. Very unique dishes. Loved the pig face, scallops and green beans especially. Very busy so reservations are needed. It was pretty loud when we were there but I am sensitive to that so it may not bother others. Tasting plates but always enough for two to share so nice for romance too. Overall great experience so would highly recommend!
Best restaurant in Chicago, yes I've been to alinia and grace...
Went for our anniversary based on numerous recommendations. I will say it lived up to the hype. Our waiter was immensely knowledgable and we never had an empty water glass. The food is creative and unique, so be brave! That said, order the greenbeans: you won’t regret it!
The food is amazing! I would definitely recommend this place for girls night and date nights!!!
Def recommend this restaurant who is a foodie. Must reserve 3 months in advance or go to the open bar for first come first serve with wait time. Easier to get seatings during weekdays. Pig face is a must get.
Request the chefs table, it was awesome
We were treated so well; food was excellent and service was exceptional. We are definitely going back. FYI...get the scallops and short ribs. DIVINE.
Had an amazing birthday celebration. The food was amazing. I highly recommend it. Make sure to try the beans, lamb ribs, whole fish, and walleye.
Book at least a month ahead to get a table. The food was excellent - very artfully presented, tasty. The scallops in mushroom sauce, roasted cauliflower and beet salad were our favorites (no skimping on the beets). I would definitely go again and would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend, understanding that the noise level was quite loud.
Great service, intense flavors and delightful combinations. We found some good values on the wine list that paired nicely with our selection of small plates. Our foursome was delighted with the evening!
We really enjoyed our dinner again at Girl and the Goat. My one knock is that the tables in one section are very close together so if you happen to be sitting next to a loud drunk girl it kind of ruins the experience. Food wise, we enjoyed everything but were underwhelmed by the goat liver mouse. We will be back though!
G&G is our anniversary destination every year and every year it's fantastic. The menu has items we can't wait to order again (like the broccoli or green beans), but for the most part, we anticipate ordering new items from an updated menu that never disappoints!
Over all service was great not to mention the great food. Waitress was so Helpful and attentive.
One of my favorite restaurants in the US of all time. I try to come here every time I'm in Chicago, if I can get a reservation! AMAZING!
Will most certainly be back in the future! 5 stars all-around. Vibrant atmosphere, delicious food, courteous staff, and dishes are all well-suited for sharing. Excluding drinks, but including tax and tip, you're probably looking at a per capita price of about $75 in order to feel well-fed. But guests can order as many or as few dishes as desired. The Open Table "price" summary is more geared toward the price per item ordered, not the average total per-person. But definitely well-worth the expense if you are looking to treat yourself - you won't regret it!
Celebrate my daughter birthday, family of 5. food portion is meant for sharing. A little expensive but the
flavor and the taste of the food is wonderful to the palate.
Family celebration. We really enjoyed dining at Girl & The Goat. We enjoyed our meal family style, trying many new delicious taste sensations. Our favorites included the pork shank, chicken hearts, and the lamb ribs.
The cuisine continues to be exceptional.
I appreciate this restaurant and all the hard work that went into it from its ownership. With that said, it’s time to invest in either fixing or replacing many if not all the barstools that are wobbly from the loose or stripped hardware/screws etc.
Host/hostess and bartender were very attentive.
We had another fabulous experience at Girl and the Goat. Service was amazing. Food was phenomenal. Such a special night for us thanks to Girl and the Goat!
Loved it! Awesome food, good vibes all around
We were a group of 6 and our server Devon expertly guided us through the menu and helped us with our choices. I want to say we ordered 14 dishes from bread, cauliflower, broccoli, green beans to a whole fish, shrimp, octopus, pork shank and pig face and topped it off with ooey gooey desert. Everything was an amazing flavor bomb and we already reserved our next visit. Thank you G&G for such great food and service! Thank you to our server Devon, you know your stuff and made our meal amazing!
I would like to start by saying this is our 3rd time here. Once again, "The Goat" did not disappoint. Food is off the charts. Service is ridiculous. Take a drink of water and 3 people rush to fill your glass. There was 3 of us. We had the duck tongues. Really good. Had the pig face. For the third time. How can you not order a dish called pig face. It has probably the finest sunny side up egg I have ever seen. Goat liver mousse. We ordered this and then ordered it again. For dessert!!! Had the goat empanadas. Should have gotten 2 orders of those. The walleye was terrific, came out smoking hot!!! Our only complaint, if you can call it one, is that it would b nice to see Stephanie Izard in the restaurant. Been here 3 times and Duck Duck Goat twice, and no sign of her. Oh well, everything cannot be perfect.
I dined at Girl and the Goat during my Chicago visit last week, the place is pretty cozy and the ambience is excellent for date nights. The place offers tapas style dishes meant to be shared, little pricey but the dishes were on point, me and the wifey specially liked the goat belly and goat empanadas. One tip, make sure to order the bread :)
To our surprise, we were seated at the end of the kitchen counter. (a 2-spot is at each end) we had a fabulous show, chatted with the very busy cooks when they had a moment. Great food and great time.
First of all, getting a reservation here is not for the faint of heart, so plan ahead. My entire trip was last minute, and I was lucky enough to snag a cancellation on OpenTable, but it seemed like this place is booked a good two weeks out. This only made me more excited to try it, though!
Our first impression of the restaurant was wonderful. A dark lighting scheme, graffiti-inspired art, and a barred liquor cabinet gave this place a very trendy and cool atmosphere. It was packed, of course given the reservation situation, and the sound level was perfect. The ambiance really adds to the excitement of eating here.
Next, we were greeted by a server, who really took the experience up another notch. He was FANTASTIC! Friendly, outgoing, efficient, and helpful, he could honestly have been the poster boy for phenomenal service. This makes a huge difference, as a good server can make or break an experience, and here the service was so excellent it really made it.
We started with the Walleye based on our server's recommendation. Lightly fried, the fish comes top with a sauce and selection of various veggies and herbs. Whatever was in this totally worked. I detected mint, which sounds odd, but the flavor mix was really exceptional, and this started the culinary side of our dinner off with a bang. Would recommend!
Next, we enjoyed the lamb ribs. I loved these! the glaze was amazing, and the meat fell off the bone. Literally, at one point I barely touched the meat with my fork and it was detached. Get this if you know what's good for you.
We ended with the pork shank. This, to be honest, was not so much to my taste as it was a bit of a more masculine dish. The chef's take on buffalo sauce and either ranch or blue cheese, the prosecco made me forget which, accompanied it. It was a more sophisticated take on a bar favorite, but to be completely honest it wasn't totally to my taste. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be to yours, though! It would have been my husband's favorite.
Underwhelming. The courses came out in no particular order, so we were treated to a last course of . . . mashed cauliflower.
I really enjoyed the Girl and the Goat. Food was wonderful, service was great, moderately loud atmosphere but still seemed cozy. While it wasn't inexpensive, it was very reasonable!
Had a great meal. It was quiet enough to be able to talk. The service was impeccable
We arrived for a reservation. At our table, which was half chair, half booth, there was so little room between adjacent tables that they had to move the table to the side for my dining partner to get to her seat. So it was very loud as we were within 2 feet of fellow diners on both side. Not intimate at all.
The food was good, but portions were oddly sized. A tempura walleye entree was the size of two chicken nuggets but the goat ribs could’ve fed someone entirely. Drinks were okay, but they were certainly overpriced.
The ambiance was poor. It was way too dark, which was weird given the proximity to other diners. I either want it to be bright and close to others or dark and away for intimacy. I will not be returning here.
One of the Best in Chicago, enough said..
Some of the best food and service I had received. The food was fresh and they had such a beautiful use of both unique and everyday ingredients. The staff was engaging and so pleasant. I could not get a reservation until 9:15pm on a Wednesday, but it was absolutely worth the wait. Will forever recommend!
My favorite restaurant
Food was amazing!!! Can’t say enough about the quality.
Great food and experience. Seafood cooked to perfection and the big face is a must!
The cocktails and food were amazing. The service was great with small plates being delivered strategically. If I lived in Chicago I’d come here all the time.
Great service, creative and delicious food and cocktails, beautiful restaurant in a vibrant neighborhood.
