My server, Taylor, was wonderful. I was insulted by “Erica” the young lady who brings the bread to your table. I asked for additional jam and she proceeded to tell me that for most people, one is enough. I explained that I’d like another and the corned bread pieces were very small ends which were flat and a bit over cooked. I asked for another piece. Although she passed by several times serving others, she never returned to our table. After realizing that we were being ignored, I had to ask the hostess and my server for jam and additional corned bread. I have been dining here for years and never had this type of experience. In addition, Ericka’s demeanor implies that she is not happy in this job. She never smiles. I hope that Ericka’s rudeness and insulting behavior will be addressed.

I love Gertrude's even though I'm allergic to shellfish and they are known for their Chesapeake Bay dishes. Their brunch menu is wonderful and varied, and the omelets are served with outstanding cornbread. Service was fabulous although she was busy, busy, busy!! Recommended highly.

Three of us had dinner at 6:30 on a Friday We have enjoyed many nice meals at Gertrude’s over the years. However tonight was very disappointing salmon, sea bass and ravioli entrees were totally unsatisfactory Zucchini app and seafood salad sub par. We usually go in summer and sit outside but tonight in January inside and noise level is very high. I don’t like giving negative review but feel something is as not up to Gertrude’s standards tonight.

Quiche was improperly cooked. Overdone on outside, ice cold on inside. Sent the meal back and ordered salmon BLT, BLAND. I’ve been to Gertrude before and loved the food. This will be my last time dining there.

Crowded… didn’t realize they were closing an hour after we got there ( 1:30 reserve)! But nevertheless service was as best as ever. They only thing I’ve ever been hard on Gertrude’s about is the noise level.

The overall dining experience is mediocre. They consider this a fine dining restaurant when truly you are not getting your money’s worth. Let’s start with the ambiance. The only available spot for reservation a day before was the outdoor seating. We were seated in a covered heated patio which is good but when I saw our table, my patio set is way better than those black metal patio table. No chair pads. We have ordered a spinach soup which is totally lacking in flavor and a seafood pasta. The pasta is soggy and overly cooked. The sauce did not compliment the overall dish. For us, dining nowadays is considered a luxury and this did not hit the spot. It was kind of disappointing because when you get to the museum which exudes art and class, the dining restaurant fell short of the expectations and representation. I just hope that everyone else would have a much better experience than we had.

Both food and service were excellent. Noise level was very low because the restaurant wasn't very full (Sunday night). I'm particularly grateful to the hostess for seating us at a very warm table. Always a great time at Gertrude's.

Out of the three of us, no one liked their food. I had Ragin Cajun shrimp and grits and it wasn’t raging or Cajun. No spice or heat of any kind. The shrimps were burnt. The drinks left little to be desired. My son’s quiche was salty and they put walnuts in salad and he has nut allergies. The waiter, Randy was attentive but didn’t know the menu at all.

Had eaten here many years ago and finally returned. Was not disappointed. Our server Peter was warm, friendly, instructive, and has GREAT handwriting on the take home boxes. The menu is varied, but seafood heavy. The wine menu is one of the most reasonably priced I have seen in recent years. The vintage offered was not as seen on the menu, but I find this to be all too common and not a huge problem. Between 4 of us, we had the caesar and spinach salads, the oyster po'boy, the curried squash soup, salmon BLT, and an apple/pear tart for dessert. All delicious and well prepared. A most enjoyable and relaxed meal.

Unfortunately, as others have noted. Gertrude’s has seen her day. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a beautiful location with wonderful views but the food and service has definitely taken a decline. We recently returned for another try after a sabbatical due to shoddy service and average food. Only to find that nothing had changed. For a restaurant that features it’s crab cake the kitchen needs to find some better quality crab and not so much filler. After our last visit we will wish Gertrude’s good luck but ado.

I think the quality of presentation of food has declined. I had the faux crab cake plater; needed some “crunch” ,and some color, too many strong flavors that did not complement one another. Bread might have helped . Perhaps I was just missing the real crab cake platter . I miss the view to the sculpture garden and the natural light, now blocked by the tent.

I enjoy dining @ Gertrude's. The food and ambience is wonderful. The staff is very pleasant, polite and very accommodating. I am looking forward to another great dining experience in the near future.
