Gare de l'Est
We look forward to welcoming you back as soon as we can do so safely.
An authentic, modern French brasserie in the heart of Toronto’s vibrant east end, Gare de l’Est was named after one of the oldest and largest train terminals in Paris, France. Just steps away from Crow’s Theatre, it offers an extensive menu of traditional French fare and seasonal dishes with a focus on local ingredients.
While the actual space doesn’t offer a means of transportation, its loft-like ceilings, deep hued banquettes and crisp white table clothes, will carry your imagination to whatever destination you desire.

Food was great - had requested my salmon be done and ut was not but overall a great evening
Great food! Tuna Tartare and Duck were amazing
We sat on the patio and had an excellent experience, just after re-opening!
Service was rushed by the server. Did not pay enough attention beyond the initial need. He made us feel unwanted in the premises during our time. Lastly, if we ever return to the restaurant then would definitely avoid getting served by the same server.
Even though I am vegan, they always come up with something delicious for me to eat.
I had high hopes, but the experience was not good. Most importantly, the food was not great. Croque Monsieur was burnt, Caesar was not made well (either time).
the bread on the charcutery board was too hard to chew on
Excellent food and service. Great to be back for a patio brunch.
We had a wonderful meal. Service was amazing. Our server was so friendly and provided great recommendations.
So nice to be back!!!
Overall the restaurant had amazing service. The wait wasn’t long to get in and the food was good.
Great service and the food is amazing. Been here many times and never had a bad meal.or experience
First patio season outing!
Great service and friendly staff but my main was crepes with asparagus and the asparagus was sandy and the crepes were rubbery. It was kind of disappointing considering the cost of the meal (like $120 for two including tip). The charcuterie was better. The menu was way too limited. I expect it to be somewhat streamlined post-COVID but needs at least a few more options.
Excellent and professional service and fabulous food. We are in the patio due to COVID-19. The patio is generously equipped with heaters and was very comfortable in November. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Wonderful experience! We really enjoyed each meals we ordered, from appetizer to dessert. Love their french onion soup, steak, salad and escargot gnocchi! Omg the Coconut pie is to die for,
So Delicious! Also try their whisky sour - So yummy. Will definitely recommend this place and hope everyone else will enjoy their foodie experience there as well! Cheers
Food and service excellent. Patio was very nice with potted grass adding to relaxed experience
Great service and delicious food -- we really enjoyed ourselves!! Would definitely recommend.
It was really great. The patio is well spaced out and the staff were extremely friendly.
We had brunch and the food was really good as well (the french toast is to die for)
We sat out on patio with heather. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I had expect the food to be a bit better given the reviews. We had steak with peppercorn sauce and cod. The steak was good, the sauce was not very tasty. The cod was well cooked and sauce was more tasty. Overall ok experience. I appreciate there efforts accommodating guests in challenging times!
Where to go that has a patio during a pandemic!
Heaters and tables spread apart..So nice to be able to dine out!
Vicky was are server and she was great ... steak tartare really good .
A very limited menu and none of the dishes were up to standard. The tartar was slimy and tasted like pickles, I had a better rotisserie chicken in pub chains and the mussels were swimming in thin tasteless broth. The French onion soup and the fries were great but only in comparison. Service was nice but we were reminded 3 times about the 90 minute time limit for what appeared to be no reason since we were on track to finish well before that
Everything was great except the green salad, which was a bit bland. The oysters, moules frites, and steak were awesome. We quite enjoyed al fresco dining on the patio under the heaters, and our server was lovely.
great patio and heaters.
Yummy food...cant go wrong here,
Was a nice spot. Had to eat outside due to COVID, so it was cold, but the food was good, the service was exquisite, and the evening was nice.
It was a chilly evening, but the heaters were on. The food was excellent--authentic French food executed with precision and flair--and the service was warm enough to make up for the cold weather! An excellent experience.
Gare de l’Est was such a cute place to eat brunch! We went there on a nice sunny day so the patio was a lot more live and pretty. Their specials out on that day was phenomenal!
Love the restaurant. First time for brunch. Great choice for a wonderful burger or an unusual French inspired breakfast dish
I had high expectations regarding this place since it seemed to be highly rated by other customers. My family and I found the food not to be fresh enough but service was very good.
The chef is a genius with fresh seasons vegetables! had a lovely green salad with lemon ricotta and red Fyfe crepes with corn and chanterelles - who knew how delicious that fall combo could be!
Unfortunately there was construction on the street in the area and very noisy....They did move us to a table away from the noise but very annoying....It was not the fault of the restaurant but city maintenance....... otherwise a great experience and excellent food and service. Thank you Vicky
Fabulous! Really enjoyed our experience and evening. Staff were excellent
This was the third patio dining experience during the pandemic.
My son asked me where I would like to go for my birthday and I chose Gare de l’est.
Delicious food, followed the pandemic guidelines , superb service.
I will come again.
The portions were surprisingly small but otherwise tasty.
Service was great but everything we ate was over-salted. Food was overpriced and mediocre at best.
Food was delicious. Reminded me of being in France.
Finally got to Gare de l'Est as we've been wanting to go for some time since it opened.
Overall it was a lovely night, no complaints. Food was tasty as expected, and the service was excellent; our waitress was fun and funny as well as professional. Perfect.
Our only small issue was the ambiance. This likely has something (a lot?) to do with covid, but with the tables spread out and at a minimum inside, we ended up at one end of the room and it didn't feel particularly romantic or classy. However, we chose to be inside, and clearly the 'vibe' was outside, although it did fill up inside as the night progressed.
So a high reco for the important stuff, no questions. But I sincerely hope that we can all get back to non-covid seating soon!
Delicious! We dined al fresco under the heaters. It was great.
Gare de L’Est is an east TO gem. Excellent selection of unique cocktails as well as the classics. My negroni was superb. Wonderful French brasserie menu and satisfying variety of wine options. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. Service is professional, relaxed and attentive. Love this place for a special night out. Since it is 2020, I’ll note that they follow solid COVID protocols. They also have heaters to extend the patio season.
Shared birthday celebration!
Fantastic service, great sunny patio facing south. Mussels were really good, I would go back just to have them again.
