Founding Farmers - Reston
As a farmer-owned restaurant, almost all of our delicious food and drink – from our freshly baked bread and house-churned butter to our craft cocktails with our proprietary spirits – is made from scratch, using high-quality ingredients from American family farms.
Our First Bake is available weekday mornings for takeaway breakfast and our specialty blend of Compass Coffee. We hope our Reston guests will enjoy all that is Founding Farmers.

Always a great place with delicious food and easy on/off metro
The food was good, but some portions were small. Although the salad I ordered was a good size, the amount of grilled chicken on the salad was less than I expected. Only a few shredded pieces mixed in. My friend got the soup, salad and bread appetizer, the soup arrived in a large bowl but the salad was served in a bowl the size of a ramekin. We believe the server should warn customers when they order this option. There is also charge for table bread. We left the restaurant feeling as if we were nickeled-and-dimed. On a plus note, the coffee came in a large cup.
Great service and very good food! A bit pricy though
Just when I think I'm used to the beautiful ambiance of the place, they hit a deeper place in my spirit. Chris held it down, making everyone feel like he was there for them and no one else. He handled us like he was serving loved ones. Christine left a beautiful first impression on my mother, and lasting impression on me. The food was amazing, the gentlemen running it, were great and kept it coming. Thank you for the cinnamon buns. They were greatly missed. I also loved how the Farmers tea was superb without the working machine. My experience continues to grow in the direction of positivity with each visit
Great service and food was fantastic!!
Excellent food at a moderate price. Quality equal to Ruth's Chris but less expensive.
This was a birthday dinner celebration. I knew the restaurant wouldn’t acknowledge my special request submitted when I booked the reservation via Open Table. So the day of our reservation I called the restaurant directly to ask if they did anything special for birthday guests. They said they did not offer complimentary items but could put a birthday candle on any of their dessert offerings. I agreed to that and pre-ordered a dessert with birthday candle as a surprise. The employee said she would update their reservation system with a note of my special request.
Later when we arrived for our dinner reservation I spoke with our waiter in between the appetizer and main entree course to confirm he received the special request and I reiterated my order to him. He acknowledged. After the entree course was cleared the waiter brought dessert menus. 10 minutes later he came back not with the pre-arranged birthday dessert but to take our dessert order. The birthday guest coincidentally order the exact dessert that I had pre-arranged. Then we waited. And waited. In the meantime the birthday guest figured out there was going to be some sort of birthday surprise dessert. Then we joked they probably ran out of candles because what else could possibly take them so long. 25 minutes after the waiter took our dessert order (and 35 minutes after our entree was completed) he arrived with the dessert. Instead of a candle he lit a wooden skewer on fire that smoked and smelled terrible. It was obvious they were unprepared and no one took care to accommodate my special request.
Don’t over promise and under deliver. And don’t leave birthday guests of honor waiting so long, especially at a table with small children.
Overall good food let down by indifferent service from at least 3 people: the person who answered the phone, our waiter and the manager.
Not on their game yet. I want to love this place but seriously find some staff who care and get the food out of the kitchen at a reasonable amount of time. Such a great concept and menu, now they just need to make it happen.
Training new server and took forever. Spent 20 minutes waiting for the check and to pay.
Server was slow to take orders. No information about specials (if there were any) or to let us know that they were out of the salad I selected for my lunch. Restaurant was not very busy, but overall, service seemed slow.
The menu seems uninspired, the food a bit boring, the execution decent but not great.
We always find Founding Farmers to be a delightful experience. The food, drink and atmosphere are exceptional. Our server, George, was attentive, but not intrusive. Would highly recommend.
We went to the Brunch and while overall was good, I tho they need to put more attention to all the dishes and not let them running out of food. I was interested for couple and took a while to refill them
First time to their Brunch. I thought it was a little pricey for what you got.
Founding Farmers in Tysons is better organized and the food taste better. Most of the food at the Reston location was cold.
Normally, we love Founding Farmers. Tonight was an exception. I ordered spicy fried chicken, mashed potatoes, collard greens. I asked for a side of vinegar when I ordered. I received two small pieces of chicken. One was way over cooked, dry, and hard as a rock. The potatoes, accompanying gravy, and greens were cold. Also, no vinegar came with the meal. I asked twice for it. Waiter finally brought it near the end of the meal. I should have sent the meal back, but I didn’t want to disrupt our group’s dinner.
Service was off this night.
Have had better experiences here in the past.
My only complaint is it was a little too dark. I couldn't really see the rest of the restaurant.
Founding Farmers does not disappoint and so happy there is a Reston location now that I am residing in Virginia. Our waitress was fantastic and helpful while the food was on point. They did wish my husband a Happy Birthday (which was notated on the reservation) when we arrived so that was nice touch as well.
My friends and I get together for brunch at least once a month. Founding Farmers Reson is the best place to be! The food was delicious, and the service was just as great! Thank you, AJ for giving us the best service!
Nice atmosphere, great service , but food was a little pricey for what you got. Ie $30 for avg size portion shrimp and crab risotto with no side or salad. And you have to pay for table bread.
Well let me start off by saying my intitial thoughts of the restaurant were very positive. The ambiance was very nice and welcoming. Our waiter was very friendly. My food came out and it looked delicious!!! My steak was perfect UNTIL I found a piece of hair on it!!! My baked potato was cold and undercooked. The waiter was very apologetic and replaced my order immediately. This time my steak was very thin and over cooked. I like a pink center. It was gray. So that was disappointing. Enough about the entree. Ordered dessert ( key lime pie) and it was phenomenal!!!! My friend ordered the bread pudding and it was phenomenal so all wasn’t lost. I would try this restaurant again, maybe just a different location, as I’ve heard very good things about it. I was compensated for my steak.
Love that Founding Farmers utilizes locally sourced ingredients, and its own local bakery. I have had the Avocado Toast on both visits -- it is delicious! I have also had the turkey dinner, which was delectable. My latest try was the Chicken Pot Pie -- which was mainly a delicious bowl of creamy chicken soup with a puff pastry delicately placed on top. For the price, I would not get it again; the turkey dinner was the same price and has a much more generous serving.
Service was great and food was delicious!
Good food. Great service. Great environment. Awesome homemade soda! Appreciate how just about everything is made in house.
We really love to stop at this place when we have people coming in and out of Dulles Airport. The food is great the staff is always so friendly and the waiters are knowledgeable of the menu.
We were very disappointed in service. Two of us ordered wine. We asked for a beer menu - took 10 minutes. Orders beer - 10 minutes later they told us not available and brought a sample. Another 10 minutes to get beer and order food. Food was fine but nothing special. One party had the mussel pot. Should have come with bread. Asked for it - meal almost over when it arrived. Restaurant was not particularly busy so don’t know why it took so long to get waiter’s attention. I would not dine here again.
They sang happy bday in German to my husband
Food is always good. Just never Great. Lacks seasoning. Service was very good as always.
This was our first visit to Founding Farmers in Reston. (We've been to the ones in DC and Tyson's but decided to try this one for a change.) The food absolutely measured up to the high standards set by the other locations. Our server clearly knew the menu well and was able to answer all our questions. Will definitely go back!!
Food was great. Service was exceptionally slow considering it was not very busy. and our parking was not actually validated for both of our parties
Went for New Year's Day lunch. Food was cold, not flavorful, i.e., bland. Not up to the standards that I have come to know for this restaurant. Will not go back for awhile, if at all.
It was busy on New Year Day. Our server was nice but hard to find her (May be they are low in servers. I saw many tables left there for long time without cleaning after customers left). Food was good as usual. One thing I need to point out is the hostess service was poor. We had table of four, but she led us to a table with one side booth and only one chair on the other side without noticing one chair was missing. We need to call her back to get another chair. After she brought us another chair, she had no response to my husband's thank you at all. There were only one or two groups of customer were waiting at the front.
Having gone to the Tysons Corner location many times, we were excited that the location had opened closer to us in Reston. This is our second visit to the location and we must say, we will never return. We had to ask multiple times for water and our other beverages as our server all but ignored us and catered to his other tables. The brunch buffet was always needing refilled so there was a lot of food we weren't able to get because the wait for it was so long. We had to ask repeatedly for other items that we wanted along with our brunch too. We also had to ask multiple times for our check and then sat and waited for our server to realize it was ready for him. I finally had to walk the check and our payment to him so that he could process it and we could leave. Overall, it was a horrible experience. We came for brunch full of energy and happy to be hanging out with each other and left annoyed and disappointed. We will not be back. We'll drive to Tysons Corner for a better experience. That location has never let us down.
As usual Founding Farmers delivered. I have yet to have a bad meal at this location. And the New Years Brunch was fabulous !!!
The service wasn’t the best and the brunch buffet was not kept up.
Food was mediocre. Limited and poor choices. Buffet not stocked continuously. Service was not great. Ambiance excellent.
We were seated immediately with our reservation. We went on Jan 1st. We ordered drinks 1st. My husband waited and asked 3 times for his unsweet ice tea. Yikes! I had coffee. I had to wait for my 2nd cup, the waitress was soo busy she didn't even notice my cup was empty. They had their breakfast buffet. For my picky husband the buffet was lacking. They were out of scrambled eggs when he went thru. He ordered pancakes which arrived luke warm. He had to ask for butter. No one could find it in the buffet area. We thought maybe butter would have arrived with the pancakes but it didn't. He had hash browns thru the buffet but needed ketchup which was a challenge to get. Needless to say these minor issues were huge to him. He won't be back . I on the other hand enjoyed the brunch items very much.
I’ve been to all of their restaurants in the area and Reston was by far the worst. I overheard the waitress and servers talking about how much they didn’t want to be there. On that we agree!
