Founding Farmers - DC
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.
Food was delicious!! Service was excellent. My only complaint was the wait for a table. Even though we had a reservation, the table wasn’t ready until about 15 minutes later.
The check in experience was dreadful. Too busy, had a reservation at 7.45, didn’t get seated till 8.30!! no where to stand or sit while waiting for table. Stood outside in the rain & cold. Won’t be back
Loved loved loved everything about this place.
I have been to this location many times on various occasions. This time I brought my team over for lunch and it is so nice to have a gem of a restaurant within walking distance from work. Great place with awesome service. I have never been disappointed here. Look forward to many more memorable visits!
Terrible experience. Don’t go
Great tasty fresh food!! Bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbvbbvvbbbbvbvbbbbbbvbbbbbbbbbhhhhggg
Terrible service - we’re not seated on time. Good came out cold and the waitress never checked on us once during our meal. We asked a passing waiter for assistance and were ignored. We then asked for a manager but was told she was too busy and they took off $11 from our tab. I will not be going back.
Great flavorful food and attentive service. I'd highly recommend it
It was delicious! Food was great. We got the chicken and waffle and Fried chicken steak. So good!
Somewhat unique food parings (fried chicken, waffle, and mac and cheese), but very tasty.
If you dont want to eat just normal american foods, go to here and older anythings.
Im korean. Most of korean wants to eat korean foods like hot spicy etc. when they come to states.
But Founding Farmers can offer another style of US foods, so if you want to have some experience for new style for US, just go to here. Severs are very kind and do the best effort.
I was disappointed in this visit to Founding Fathers. The food quality seems to have declined. The place is very crowded and noisy.
Food was good, but pricy. Hostess’ need training. Came twice, had same experience. Waiters were fine, slow and forgot coffee. Seems like this restaurant was a great idea when opened, needs updating across the board.
Waited a long time past the reservation time, the food was meh, so many mistakes were made, server didn’t care at all. My son ordered sliders and the waitress brought him a full sized burger instead. She told him it was basically the same thing and shrugged her shoulders, no attempt to make it up to him. Burger was unseasoned and sub-par. Fries were nothing special. My shrimp & grits was very watery. There was a random noodle in them. Why? They got sent back. The waitress forgot to bring out the cornbread that was listed under appetizers, so she brought it after the meal arrived. No apologies or anything. Cornbread was lacking that crust and richness you expect it to have. My husband ordered chicken & waffles. The fried chicken at our local grocery store is way better. The waffles were mediocre. The syrup was infused with cinnamon & disgusting mixed with the chicken. There were no redeeming qualities at this restaurant. There are so many reasons not to spend a small fortune on a horrible experience. Go anywhere else!
Lively atmosphere, good food with wide range of choices and excellent service (thanks Red).
They waaay overbook reservations they can’t accommodate. When you make a reservation weeks in advance you don’t expect to stand and wait with hoards of people for 45-60 minutes... Not fair to the customers nor the hostesses trying to seat them.
I will say, we did wait 30 minutes past our reservations. However, they were completely accommodating and made up for our wait. Everything was awesome, would go back in a minute, event if I had to wait. Our server Doug was just what we needed that night!!
Great food and better company
I must say the food was excellent, but quite pricey for the portions. Of course, this is DC, so that is not completely unexpected. The service was excellent, but the noise level was a little high and conversation somewhat difficult. I appreciate hand mixed sodas and specialty drinks, but I did miss the availability of a good basic iced tea or soft drink.
Food was amazing and unique. Drinks were great. We expected a loud and busy environment but tables were a little close together and the mixed drinks from the bar took very long. Those in our party were almost done their wine by the time we got our mixed drinks. Otherwise it was amazing and definitely not to miss if you are in the area.
Seated promptly. Great service. Good food. No room for dessert.
Great food and atmosphere. Wish our tables were not connected so close to other dinners. A large person would not have been able to sit there.
Very nice restaurant. Would go back and would recommend. Very cool atmosphere and service was great. Friendly and fairly quick. Brisk business and some of the seating was slightly awkward as getting up meant moving into the aisle where the waiters are trying to get by with huge plates of food. Food was delicious.
In from out of town. Super busy for lunch, we didn’t wait but dinner crowd was fairly light
Fun hip vibe. Great food
Amazing service and delicious food. Expansive menu offered options for everyone to enjoy.
Popped in for dinner, was recommended this place by a local, and I would recommend it too. Good service and good food, not a complaint to be made.
Make sure you get a reservation in advance, there was a huge queue when we arrived at 8pm on a Sunday!
Absolutely delicious food- especially the IMPOSSIBLE burger, the best tasting plant-based burger I’ve ever had and I’ve been vegetarian for 16 years! We were in DC for 4 days and came here 3 of those days - we highly recommend it!
Too noisy ambience. Climatization went from too cold to too warm.
Mistake in the dishes choosen (even if only 2 people). Regular cooking but too expensive for an ordinary meal. By the way, corvina is not an exotic fish.
Everyone’s food was great except my lobster Mac & cheese just wasn’t my favorite. It was the most expensive item we bought and probably the least impressive. The strawberry ice cream was the best I’ve ever had!
Class act !!
An absolute must. Our server (Don) was informative and the food outstanding.
Food was good. The décor was trendy. The place was packed.
I’ve been to Founding Farmers several times and the experience has been good every time.
We had a reservation. The website didn't allow us to take the time slot we wanted, but we arrived an hour early, and were flexible. We sat at the bar, we ended up, two hours in, and still waiting, just eating at the bar. I was VERY disappointed that our reservation didn't become a priority within a certain time frame. The front desk/reservations clerk needs to be a manager, who can make better decisions......sitting at the bar with a 19 and 22 year old was not ideal, frankly, was disappointing. We couldn't really talk. Sunday morning, with two college students.....talking sideways, over people, over loud shouted orders, was really sorry.
Noise level was very high. If we had been at a table, as we had requested, initially, and repeatedly, we would not have had anything at all negative to say. We love this place. The food is great, the service is wonderful, and the crowd is friendly and intelligent. We wish just it would love us back with more sensitive and appropriate front door/reservations/host service.
We had a reservation for 2:15 on a Sunday. We got there about 10 min before with our party of 3 and the restaurant was running behind on reservations. We waited a half an hour past our reservation time before we were seated. I think that process needs to be fixed. Our server was very pleasant, but forgot part of the order (we weren't charged for it). Drinks took a while to come out as well. The food was pretty good for the price.
Don't expect to be seated at your reservation time. We had to wait an additional 30 minutes, and some people had been waiting for over an hour even though they had a reservation. Food was okay, got the breakfast chicken and waffles. Waffles were overcooked, chicken portion was small.
It was St Patrick's Day, the lobby was mobbed, and they were more than a 40 minutes overdue on our reservation, so we left and didn't eat there. The Indian place across the street was amazing.
Open Table needs an option for "Vendor didn't honor reservation," because the only way to get to comments is with a rating, and my rating is just an arbitrary "3" to get to the comments area.
We got seated an hour after our reservation. We were told they were only 15 minutes behind and then continuously being told different things. The hosting staff lacked consistency and order.
45 min wait after my scheduled reservation time. Food mediocre.
