Founding Farmers - DC
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.
Meatloaf was a little too salty
It was great! The waiters were very polite and helpful and the food was delicious!!
Although it was snowing, Founding Farmers stayed open and honored my 8pm reservation! We had a wonderful evening. The drinks and the food were delicious. Thank you!
At 9:26pm last night, the lights were all turned up to high and the background music was turned off. A server or someone else who worked there walked through the dining room and said very loudly, “we are closing now and you all need to leave - get up now and go home”. People were still eating and the restaurant hours say the closing is at 10:00pm. Extremely rude and unprofessional.
Wonderful food- interesting food combinations and great drinks. Service was excellent.
service was ok, server was in a rush of kicking us out.
Great food and service as usual.
It seemed I begged to be here. The waiter did not bother to introduce his name, which made us finding him extremely difficult. Why we needed to find him? Because I had not get the French coffee even after I finish my entree and my friend’s juice was also far away.
Finally I got my coffee, my friend got his juice. But checking the bill, it is the wrong one! By the way, the couple sitted next table got billed for juice they did not order.
Food. The hot dog can’t even compare to Five Guys one. The soup seemed come directly out of can.
Large hair in my food. Long wait for disinterested servers. Wasn’t even comped for the hair in the food. Boring offerings. Way too expensive. Felt like a generic chain restaurant. Won’t ever return.
Always enjoy going for breakfast. The beignets are the world's best, I am convinced. Everything was delishes, and the energy in the morning is a great way to get going.
Great place!! Amazing food!! Worth the wait!!
When we visit Foggy Bottom we are more then likely to have Sunday brunch at FF. The food is always excellent and there are a great variety of options. Hangover hash, OJ and bananas foster waffle are some of our favorites.
Had to go ask hostess did they forget us nobody came to our table
Perfect in every Way top notch service to notch food!!! Still dreaming of that Cornbread!!!
I ate here 10 years ago on a trip with my family from Florida when it first opened and returned with my boyfriend for our two year anniversary. We are in love with the food. All very fresh and the pimento bread is to die for. Only thing we would have wished is to not have a small table in the corner that was impossible to get in and out of.
Food was good. Too noisy. We couldn't hear eachother.
Good food. Good ambience. Good cocktails. Had a good time.
Founding Farmers has quickly become our favorite restaurants (we've been to the DC and Reston restaurants). The menu is absolutely fantastic from top to bottom, from drinks and appetizers to entrees and desserts. Everyone we have brought there has had an excellent experience and can't stop talking about it. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny. Counting the days until we eat there again.
Extremely crowded. Very small table. Very loud. Good server.
We were seated ~25min after our reservation time despite arriving on time—the place was packed! Great energy. Our appetizers, the fried green tomatoes and black pepper garlic wings, were delicious. However, the breakfast chicken and waffles were a bit disappointing. There wasn’t much fried chicken, and it was rather bland. Waffle was decent. Perhaps we should’ve gotten the lunch version instead of the breakfast version, but for a signature dish we expected better fried chicken.
This restaurant doesn’t hold a candle to the MoCo location. Brunch offerings are limited. They have NO biscuits. What’s up with that? Oh, but their Nitro tea is amazing!
Amazing! Everything was delicious and staff was great.
Very interesting menu items and drinks. Our server was very knowledgeable. Would definitely eat here again.
food was extremely bad .
I ordered Chili burger , it was raw and completely uncooked ( I asked for well done)
Excellent location for business meals, especially breakfast meetings where the noice level is lower.
The lunch and dinner here were great. I got the Impossible burger and the Impossible meatloaf on two different occasions. The craft cocktails were great. Breakfast was a different story. The service was great but my friend's over-easy eggs were under cooked and my scrambler was not very tasty. It was advertised as having carrots and some other veggies. I don't know what all was missing except definitely the carrots were missing, and the overall flavor was bland. The leek hash browns were good. The toast was cold. Could not recommend for breakfast but lunch and dinner were very good.
I have heard a lot about Founding Farmers so decided to pay a visit. We went to the bar and enjoyed some cocktails from the list. The bartender recommended some great options. The food was great. We had the cornbread which had their own twist to cornbread which made a greater impression. We also had chicken and waffles and grilled cheese with tomato soup. We were too full to eat dessert but definitely next time.
What a great place for dinner!
Booking was easy (and essential). We were seated promptly and the service, food quality and portion size were all outstanding.
We will definitely be back here the next time we are in DC
I LIKE VERY MUCH THIS RESTAURANT BECAUSE IT HAS FRESH AND ORGANIC PRODUCTS.
Food, atmosphere and our server was phenomenal. Enjoyed having a booth looking out over the street outside.
Steph who greeted us was so welcoming! It was as welcoming as visiting a friend's home. Our server Michael was exceptional and the food was exceptional. Two of us had the wood plank salmon - it was cooked to perfection and the mashed potatoes were perfection - so flavorful and the temperature of the food was also perfect.
Great lunch place (haven't been there for dinner but I think it's the same). Good salads, love the rotisserie chicken (you can add it to salads), great skillet cornbread. Lots of healthy options but some other things like burgers, too.
Our Peace Corps Group, mostly retired, has been meeting annually for the last eight years at Founding Farmers. We always enjoy the food and the occasion but parking is difficult and Metro service inconvenient for those in the suburbs not near any Metro stop. Still, we pay the extra for garage, which is the same cost of lunch itself, just to enjoy the really great food at Founding Farmers.
Food was affordable and delicious.
My go to restaurant! Excellent food, fantastic wait staff. Founding farmers never disappoints!
We had a great meal. The food was fresh and tasty. Our server was kind and efficient.
I went to Founding Farmers - DC for a business lunch. We were seated quickly. Service might be a little too slow if you need a fast in and out for a seated business lunch. We had no trouble conversing during lunch - noise level was fine. It took about 30 minutes to get our food but it was served hot and everyone liked their meal. Some of our group ordered dessert. They enjoyed their desserts but, again, it took a while for it to get to our table. I would say we were at the restaurant about 30 minutes later than I thought we would be there. Overall, very enjoyable lunch location.
Nice place, great food and service.
