Estia Taverna – Radnor
Good food, but bad service. And OVERPRICED !!!!!!
Akropolis means high-place and I would say, after a recent visit to Estia Radnor with a party of eight, that the restaurant has earned a "high place" among my dining choices. . . The table shared five or six appetizers and salads - the portions were ample; everyone had a chance to try everything. My favorite is the saganaki - haloumi cheese, flambe with ouzo, with a squeeze of lemon. Perfection. We had a bottle of santorini wine; the black lava sandy soil of the island produces great dry whites that go perfectly with fish.
Speaking of the fish, we tried several - the fagri, the lavraki, the barbouna - one of them encrusted in salt. . . Moist, and grilled to perfection. We ordered a few sides to share; horta of course as well as grilled and fried potatoes. The fried potatoes were just room temperature; I sent them back and in a minute - voila! - fresh, hot, crispy fried potatoes.
The service was attentive without being overbearing. Estia Radnor is well managed, both in the front of the house and the back. Yes, it is expensive. BUT, the quality justified the price, from my perspective. .
Everything was great. The food was delicious!
Estia is expensive and definitely overpriced.
One of the best for Mediterranean dining. That is why I keep returning.
We were not disappointed for the first time at this location.
Our only glitch - we ordered a bottle of white wine which was delivered to the table warm. We asked the waiter to take it back and chill it. When the wine came back to the table it was only slightly colder. We again asked for the bottle to be placed in ice cubes and water - a rapid chill.
Again, bottle returned in a chilled wine container - the container was nice and cold - the wine was not. I took two ice cubes out of my table water to chill my glass of wine.
The waiter replied, “oh, you want ice - I’ll get more.”
No, we didn’t want ice in our wine, but at that point we were tired of trying to get our point across! So we ended up with two tall glasses of ice! Thank goodness the food was tasty - we would have left otherwise.
We were 5 minutes late and they deliberately gave us a different table to the one we requested even though the preferred table was free! We were celebrating a birthday as well and are a relative regular visitor to this restaurant. Very disappointing.
Two problems. First, one entree with lobster and pasta was VERY disappointing. Where was the lobster for $40!? Second, we arrived 45 minutes early for a 6 pm reservation and we were told that it was our table till 7:10! Not good to be told you're expected to leave soon shortly after arriving. That is anti-hospitality. We don't go out to eat; we go out to "dine." When dessert arrived, we were told we had 9 minutes remaining.
It was our first visit to Estia for our anniversary and we’d definitely return. Service was outstanding, I must say, as was our flaming salted fish.
We love Estia (Center City and Radnor), and as always, the food was excellent in terms of preparation, taste, and presentation. Our group of 8 enjoyed calamari, Greek Meatballs, Mediterranean Spreads (try the Htipiti) for appetizers, and for main courses we enjoyed Papoutsakia, salmon, and other fish dishes. We were celebrating 2 birthdays and had a great time!
Our experience at Estia is always wonderful. Our waiter was top notch and attended to our every request. The food is delicious, perfectly seasoned. The waiter also knows the menu and how the food is prepared so he could answer any questions that we had. All in all, a Fabulous lunch!!!
Keep it up.
The ambiance was great and the food fantastic! Both diners shared the roasted beet appetizer which could have been a lunch meal. Each had the mediterranean salad which was very large. Everything was delicious and we look forward to a return visit.
Noisy and expensive. Stick with the pretty-fix menu
We had a great dining experience. Thank you.
Everything is of high quality and so fresh tasting. Delicious! Can get noisy at peak times. Pricey but always great food and service. One of my favorite spots to dine.
Love the food! So delicious and fresh and healthy. The service was absolutely perfect! Every detail. My favorite restaurant!
All good but service mediocre - not professional. Too loud. Food very good.
Excellent server and excellent food!
Nice table, good initial service, tasty food ... perfect for a suburban business lunch.
We are regulars at Estia Radnor it is our favorite restaurant in the area. Loved the addition of the saxophone player last night! Was great!!
Both the Radnor and the downtown Estia restaurants are superb First, the food is fresh and well prepared, and the menu has a good variety of interesting choices. The wines are well chosen, and the service is attentive without being overbearing.
Grilled octopus app was excellent. Along with the orzo seafood and moussaka entree’s. Paige was our waitress. She was fabulous. I will request her for our next visit.
Lovely restaurant with fun bar and very good happy hour selection. Especially good for fish lovers. Free parking available. I was disappointed that in spite of my reservation I was offered the worst table in a completely empty room. Though they allowed me to move I did not have a choice of table. I was given the next one over with a banquette. I originally sat in the banquette but the seat was so much lower that the table I had to change places with my partner. Only later did I see another woman with the same difficulty and I guess she complained because she was offered a pillow. I have not encountered this situation in the past so will eat there again but may opt for eating at the bar.
We enjoyed our dinner - the meal was well prepared and the atmosphere lively!
My only complaint was that we ordered a fish dish that was a special and were very surprised at the price when received the bill. Waiters should inform guests before they order. Other than that, a very good meal.
Great meal everyone in our group was really happy with the food! Our service was a little sporty but improved as the meal went on.
It was VERY noisy! Very hard to have a conversation with four!
Delicious favorites include Estia "chips", any fish, lamb chops. Unfortunately. French fries were cold and seafood orzo was mostly octopus--very little shrimp or clams. Also our table enjoyed the spanikopita appetizer and grilled veggies. Service was efficient if brusque.
Excellent place for our anniversary dinner!
Birthday with the ladies!
Definitely a popular place. The restaurant was crowded, yet controlled. The servers were attentive and polite and the food was delicious! All in all a wonderful experience. I highly recommend!
Wonderful place. Good food. Some rather expensive.
Certain foods were excellent, but the fish price fix platter contained a very small piece of fish and orzo that was soaked with a sweet marinara that overpowered the orzo. The moussaka was good, but it was a bit greasy and not the best I’ve had in Phila. The Greek salad and spanakopita were excellent.
Great octopus!
Seafood always top notch.
Sister to Philly Estia- both equally terrific
Staff was rude
Great as always.
Incredible experience start to finish. Greeted by friendly cheerful hostesses and manager and great service from Ryan. Salad dressing is out of this world!
Everything from the waitstaff, to the food, to the location was excellent. I would highly recommend this dining experience to anyone who enjoy Greek food or would like to venture into it for the first time.
One of my favorite restaurants. I love the octopus and Estia chips. Had the Chilean sea bass and it was perfectly prepared. Our server, George, was very attentive and a great host.
