Izakaya Den is Denver’s popular Japanese gastropub, modeled after the lively after hours establishments found throughout Japan. The restaurant is located on South Pearl Street and is the second restaurant of the Kizaki brothers, founders and owners of Sushi Den.



The menu is arranged in a tapas style, serving traditional Japanese small plates along with dishes infused with international flavors and textures. The more traditional Japanese offerings include sashimi and nigiri, sourced from daily fish shipments from around the globe, along with dumplings and noodle dishes. The global cuisine experiments with a bevy of different flavors including unique items such as Grilled Panzanella Salad (jumbo lump crab, toasted focaccia, local goat cheese, pistachios, plum wine vinaigrette), Kobe Beef Sliders (seared foie gras, pomme frittes). A gluten-free menu is also available along with a popular weekday happy hour from 5 to 6:30 pm.

                                                    We had an early reservation and the restaurant was not full. We were given a stern lecture by our server that we needed to “temper our expectations” about when the food would get there because the sushi bar “was slammed”. Our food service was slow., Although we had a 5pm reservation one item was sold out, the sushi came out a bit at a time so I couldn’t enjoy it all at once as I had chosen my pieces. It tasted great, our friends company was great, but my experience there was sub par from previous times.

                                                    Had the chance to sit at the sushi bar inside this wonderful gem of a neighborhood restaurant on the south side of Denver. Believe the reviews… The chef’s take sushi making to the next level and for what you get, extremely fresh sushi in the mountains, they are hard pressed to find better sushi outside SoCal, Miami or maybe New England.

                                                    Izakaya is a good restaurant. The prices are too high for the value received but we'll go back regardless. The food tasted great and the service was perfect. Despite telling them it was a birthday celebration they didn't do anything to acknowledge that and while we would have likely turned down a birthday desert, it would have been nice to be offered.

                                                    I have never had a bad experience!! The food is great, the staff is great they make sure that your every need is met. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting that I feel like I am at home.
