Not impressed at all. Not quite sure why this restaurant is deemed remarkable. Good food, decent value, good ambiance and super noisy but absolutely nothing that special. It is like any other restaurant you'd grab dinner on a causal night after work. The only reason why it may seem popular is because of their limited seating capacity and too much demand.

We went for our wedding anniversary. Food was ok, we expected more considering it is considered one of the best restaurants in San Francisco. We came expecting Great food, but what we got was so-so.

I make my own pizza and pasta dough and Cotogna's dough is as good as mine. What they put on the pizza and in the pasta was not typical Italian-American. No tomato sauce or pesto, but unique, wholesome, over-the-top ingredients. For example, our pizza's base was a celery root puree, topped with wild mushrooms and garnished regiano Parmagiana. Pure heaven, from first bite to last! My son ordered the agnolotti del plin for his entree. The blend and quality of the cheeses shined through the fabulous homemade pasta that I know was made with Italian imported 00 flour. I ordered the pasta with fava green puree and potato rotolo and again, pure perfection. My husband could not join us, so I ordered the Tagliatelle Alla Modense to take home to him. Fabulous! Desserts are all homemade. We shared the Torrone gelato with honey and pistachio shortbread, and again, over-the-top delish. I brought home the Warren pear crostata for my husband (we ate the fabulous gelato and just brought home the pear). Service was impeccable from start to finish. I was greeted with a welcoming smile and assisted to our table. I am disabled and the hostess was extremely helpful and attentive. Our server was terrific. Her input and suggestions were appreciated and we thoroughly enjoyed her recommendations. All the staff at Cotogna were helpful, polite, and made us feel extremely welcomed. Our dinner, while not inexpensive, was worth every penny. It was all homemade with the finest ingredients. As a hobby, I'm a gourmet cook, and our dinner was as good as I can make. My only advice is only bring family and friends to Cotogna who are open to trying exciting new flavors. For those who love only Italian-American cooking a la Lidia Bastianich, packaged, dried pasta, and heavy sauces, save your money; they won't appreciate the quality of Cotogna's food.

We had dinner here before going to a show. Were very lucky to get a table with only four days notice. Wish we had more time to linger over dinner - will have to go again with no deadline. Service was impeccable and the food amazing. The charcuterie plate before dinner was a pleasant surprise to my husband. I loved my Dungeness crab soup. Our pasta entrees were sublime - my tiny pillows of pasta stuffed with duck and chicken melted in your mouth. Unfortunately, no time for dessert.

Tables are ridiculously close together for a restaurant with extremely wide common areas. Wine came out after food, food is average and lacking flavor.

High energy and very popular and it is easy to understand why. Although I am a foody the menus is so unique and authentic that I hardly recognized any of the selections. It didn't matter-everything was perfect. Although the restaurant was packed, the pace of service was truly Italian. We had savored the creative and spectacular first courses, lots of wonderful prosecco and our pasta. We were not rushed. It was a wonderful and delicious experience. We wanted to go back for Sunday supper but it didn't work out. We were very disappointed.

Excellent pasta and pizza here. Portions are large so if one do a 3 or 4 course meal here, I feel it'll be too much food. The only down side is some dishes are overly salty and it's not healthy. Chef's need to tone it down, seriously.

We enjoyed an early afternoon meal at Cotogna. The ambiance was great. The room temperature was perfect, unless you sit in front of the oven. We had 4 glasses of wine, the burrata, insalata, agnolotti del plin, and raviolo. I would say that this is the perfect amount of food for two people. The burrata is definitely worth its cost. The the caviar, burrata, and toast make a superb combination. The insalata was a great twist of sweet, bitter, and olives. The raviolo and agnolotti were perfect cooked, al dente, and their stuffings were brilliantly seasoned. I would recommend all of these dishes. We also got the gelato for dessert. It was very good, especially if you enjoy pistachios. Overall, great experience.

We went for Valentine’s Day. We ordered the Fiorentina Steak (tabola stule) and one of their amazing pizza. I have to say that we were extremely impressed with the food and the quality. I travel all over the world and I have to say that that steak was the beat steak I have ever had. Cooked to perfection and with amazing flavors. The pizza was amazing as well (the bread, the ingredients, the flavors). All in all, amazing experience and incredible food, atmosphere and overall value. A++ recommended.

We had a very enjoyable lunch at Cotogna on Valentine's day. We enjoyed a delicious sformato and we also had a Sopressata pizza and a Gramigna pasta dish. Everything was delicious and the wine selections by the glass were just right. They also showed us to a table right away, even though we were an hour early! The only things that detracted were a delay in ordering a second glass of wine and a small rainwater leak near my wife! Overall, a very positive experience and we will come back again.

Food at Cotogna is always very good. The dishes are interesting and often creative. I had a really delicious appetizer of beets, apples, hazelnuts, and mozzarella....great combo. A pasta with pork sausage and romenesco was also outstanding. The house made gelato is ALWAYS great as it was on my recent visit - Torrone gelato with honey and pistachio shortbread - super creamy with the sugared (?) nuts and honey drizzle. 10/10 for the dessert. Good supply of both white and red wines by the glass. Service was efficient and the waiter appropriately friendly. Not a great fan of the noise level, though, but that seems to be an issue in most restaurants these days. We will continue to patronize Cotogna, happily.
