From the OpenTable editors: Eight-time JBF nominee Katy Millard's farm-to-table restaurant in Southeast Portland's Mt. Tabor has the kind of menu that pulls people back season after season. The roasted chicken is a signature, the milk-braised pork sugo returns every year by popular demand, and the chocolate chip cookie, voted best in Portland by Portland Monthly, has developed a following of its own. Hard-to-find Cameron Ramato Rosé and the Dorothy in Waikiki, a strawberry Mai Tai riff, round out a drinks list worth exploring. Intimate and casual, Coquine earned a James Beard nomination for Outstanding Restaurant in 2025 and has felt like one for much longer.

After 11 years, Coquine will close in late October and reopen in mid-November as Katy Jane’s, a larger, more casual restaurant combining the restaurant with its neighboring cafe and market. Many Coquine favorites, including its cookies, will remain on the menu.

Yes, Coquine's cozy Dining Room, prix‑fixe tasting menu, and many guests' anniversary and date‑night praise make it a lovely choice for a special evening.
Coquine feels like a cozy, intimate neighborhood spot, you enter through a market and oyster bar and then discover a warm dining room that guests describe as relaxed, inviting, and perfect for date nights or special evenings.
Many guests say the tasting menu and shared starters leave them satisfied, several reviewers note they didn’t leave hungry or even felt 'stuffed', and splitting items like the carrot soup was plenty.
Yes, the Market/Café side is family-friendly: at least one reviewer brought their son to the market café and described the experience as wonderful, with kids able to buy sodas and try oysters.
Reservations are recommended for the Dining Room and the website lists current menus and hours; note the five-course menu is offered but Coquine says it cannot guarantee a completely vegan menu, and guests report the staff have kindly accommodated allergies when notified ahead of time.
Smart casual is the guide, polished but relaxed; many guests treat Coquine as a spot for birthdays and special occasions and often dress up a touch.
Coquine often books up, reservations are recommended and guests note that reservations are scarce, with Wednesday nights reported as pretty full and walk-ins sometimes turned away.
Aim for an early weeknight dinner, Coquine serves dinner starting at 5pm (Wed–Sat) and guests call a 5pm mid-week seating a perfectly paced, delightful visit; the oyster bar also takes walk-ins 5–8pm.
Evenings Wednesday through Saturday are when Coquine serves dinner (5:00 pm–10:00 pm); guests often praise midweek date‑night visits, so reservations are recommended.
Private dining isn't part of Coquine's offering, the focus is the open Dining Room and the adjoining Market/Oyster Bar; reservations are recommended for the Dining Room (max party of 4).
