Claire was the best!!
I have eaten at City Grill several times; the food has always been very good, the service sometimes slow, but at my last visit the service was excellent. Though I like dining outdoors, the traffic was very noisy (I know that's not the fault of the restaurant). The drinks were rather weak. My companion and I both had the swordfish special and we both liked it.
Food was ok. Not great . Server was excellent
Loved the tots!
We enjoyed a very nice lunch at City Grill. The food was delicious and arrived timely. Service was excellent and it was a nice atmosphere. I highly recommend the turkey avocado sandwich!
City Grill is a perfect place to have drinks with friends. Vibey atmosphere, delicious cocktails. Notably the Mango Mojito. I had the grilled calamari and crispy Wontons with tuna. It was delicious. I have been there a few times now and it never disappoints.
City Grill was one of our favorite dining spots - until last weekend. I agree with another reviewer's comments that something has changed. Menu is different (and the wonderful wedge is gone!) We started with a drink at bar - bartender was very personable and did a great job. We checked in with hostess who took us to our outside table, as requested several weeks prior when reservation was made. She told us we'd have to take a high-top (despite several open tables for our party of 4) and "you can't have that one cause its reserved for owner". And then she said snottily "outside seating isn't even guaranteed". Server came over - no energy, no personality, acted like she was working in a diner and just trying to flip as many tables as possible. We placed our orders, appetizers, salad and dinners. Salad arrived with our dinner instead of before, so someone screwed up. My husband ordered steak special, no fries and sauteed spinach. No spinach arrived but lots of fries did! My salmon was excellent and cooked perfectly. Will we return again - no. Service used to be top notch, servers were interactive, helped make choices and had a personality - not anymore! Outside music was super loud - that should be saved until after the dinner hours. Someone 2 tables down from us was smoking. My husband and I agreed that there is a different vibe at City Grill and we both give it 10-12 months before they are reinventing themselves. There are so many amazing restaurants in Rochester....don't waste your time or money here!
We took our out of town guest here. Couldn’t be happier with delicious food and great service. We were greeted with friendly smiles and our table was ready and waiting.
The outdoor seating is so nice and it really makes you feel like you’re at a fancy restaurant. I am not a seafood eater AT ALL but i decided to try the calamari here and i loved it! The seasonal flatbread is amazing, and the mac & cheese is great as well!
The three of us visited the 'City Grill' on a weeknight. The crowd was moderate, and many of the other patrons sat outside, on the patio, and we sat inside, therefore we found the overall noise level fairly low.
Our server was very polite, courteous, and knowledgeable of the restaurant's menu items. Our drink order was both taken, as well as brought promptly. Our dinner orders were taken shortly thereafter, but allowing us an appropriate amount of time just to relax and chat a little.
Our entrees were brought shortly thereafter, and were very delicious. The only "hiccup" occurred when one of our side dishes didn't arrive with our meals. It was brought later, but by then we were pretty much finished with our dinners. The manager intervened, however, and "took care of it", which was both very professional, as well as appropriate. We ordered a chocolate chip cookie/ice cream dessert, which turned out to be HUGE, and quite delicious.
Overall, we were impressed with our experience, and will not hesitate to return.
Miss the skirt steak
Had to wait over 13 mins for a waiter to come to our table, but manager of City Grill apologized and then made it up to us with some on the house refreshments. Everything turned out good from there.
Great service and food. The server’s personality was fun. Just an overall great experience.
Our server was attentive and helpful and the food was good. What fell short were the drinks. A dirty martini was an inch short of the top of my martini glass. My husband ordered vodka on the rocks. The glass was filled to the max with ice. There was just barely a shot of vodka. He had to move some ice to his water glass just to be able to sip the vodka. Our salads and entrees arrived at exactly the same time. During our entire dinner the manager was socializing with a couple in the booth behind us. We could hear their conversation and found it very distracting. This has been one of our favorite summer spots but something has changed.
Just find the menu lacking normal lunch fare.
I was happy with everything. We will be back. Good service.
City grill is always great...food and service were excelleny
Only problem was loud motorcyclists driving around the neighborhood. Service, food and prices were fine.
We were downtown for the jazz festival, waitress must have been having a bad day, no smiling, seemed unhappy to be serving us 😩. Food was good, bar service was painfully slow.
Wait for our food was very long, despite the restaurant not being full. When food came, waiter had forgotten our appetizer. Those who ordered pizzas were happy. Others in the group said their food was not hot.
I am never disappointed with the food, service or atmosphere at City Grill.
Busy night on the first night of the Rochester Jazz fest. Service was good and server was very attentive.
Seated in outdoor/ garden area - very nice and can people watch.
All was good except it was extremely loud. They seated us on the noisy side of the outdoor patio where the traffic noise was the loudest. Loud motorcycles and ambulances going by for much of our evening. Couldn't hear my dinner companion. The concierge might consider warning people before seating them, or seat us on the less noisy side of the patio. There were open tables there.
I had high expectations and really wanted to like City Grill. I was excited that I had reserved an outdoor table. It was a little chilly (not the restaurant's fault), so that may have impacted my review of the ambiance. There were heaters above tables but they weren't on. Our waitress was good and services was relatively quick. We had to ask twice for bread but when it came out (we already had our meals at that point), it was warm and pretty good. My mom and sister got the wild mushroom risotto which was "OK" in their opinion. It seemed a small-ish portion but they ate it all and were full. I had the chicken cutlet. The chicken was tasty and the outer crust was crispy and the lemon vinaigrette was really good. But the "salad" on the side was mostly frisee, and hardly any arugula. So I did not find that enjoyable at all, as I feel frisee doesn't have much flavor. My biggest issue was the price though; I felt both entrees were definitely overpriced at $22 and $18 respectively. There are too many good restaurants in Rochester; probably won't be back.
We’ve eaten there several times and have always enjoyed it. This time we were seated in the bar area instead of the dining room which was very noisy. My husband and I both ordered the seafood linguini and felt it was on the “fishy” side. It was loaded with seafood and maybe that was the way it was supposed to be but we just didn’t care for it.
Sitting outside on the covered patio at City Grill is one of Rochester's best dining experience. You get the fun ambiance of the city within a quiet, comfortable space. Our waiter was very good, the food was excellent and the prices aren't cheap but they are reasonable for what you get. We all got four different entrees and all were great. And the S'mores Grilled Pizza for dessert is to die for!
Poor service and food was mediocre. Took forever to get ANYTHING
It was a very good experience, we’ve been here many times with family but this time we went on a date night and sat outside. We did wait 20 minutes for someone to come to our table after we were seated but it was a sat night and they probably just forgot or the waiter wasn’t aware that a new customer was seated, they did apologize and took off my second glass of wine from our bill which was great. Overall the food was good and the ambiance was great and we’ll definitely go back and it doesn’t hurt that they have valet which makes it worth going there.
Had an excellent business lunch there.
Service was poor. Venue was extremely loud. Food was good but very expensive.
We were there before seeing a show at RBTL. They sat us before our reservation. Service was prompt, food was very good. Noise level was a little loud and in the booth we had problems hearing one another, but once the booth next to ours got their food it quieted down.
Had a great draft IPA.
I thought It was really expensive and very noisy .
I recently went there with my friend from out of town and my daughters. When we arrived, there was no valet service available, so we parked the car ourselves. We made reservations for 7:15p, when we walked in, we asked the Hostess if we could get a drink at the bar first and she said "yes", she was very nice. The four of us went to the bar. 3 of us ordered beer and one ordered a cider (not hard to make, lol). There were 3 bartenders, 2 men , 1 woman. The girl was good took our original order quickly. But then she disappeared and it literally took 10 min. for the male bartender to get us our beers! It wasn't busy there at all, the 2 male bartenders were having a conversation and pretty much ignored us, they were still conversing when we finally got our drinks , never acknowledging us again until another 5 min went by and he told me the total tab. Really rude for an upscale place. We were seated for dinner, the waiter was very good, nice. We ordered the steak, the chicken, both were good. My daughter ordered a pizza, which came covered in grease....she only ate 1 slice. I ordered the risotto (mushroom). It wasn't very good. I was up all that night with stomach issues (which is uncommon for me). I would not recommend this place.
had a margarita at the bar before our meal, it was excellent! food and service was great!! love the eggplant stack
Good ambiance, excellent service, delicious food
The buffet for Easter was one of the best buffets we have ever been to. The options and quality of food were excellent. They kept the food fresh and we saw them replenishing even when there was still food there. No complaints.
Went there before a concert. The service was great. We were seated promptly and the waitress was attentive so we were able to have a drink and dinner without feeling rushed. The food was decent. My salmon was a tad too salty and a bit over cooked ( same with my husband’s steak); the sides were excellent as were the cocktails
Our server, Claire was Fantastic! She made the dining experience truly Amazing! Friendly and Professional she is an Assest to City Grill! The staff overall is really great as well.
Whoever is managing is obviously good!
Very nice place to eat. Excellent service!!! Pleasant staff! Food well prepared. Nice tasteful decor. Seems like a great place to go out to dinner with friends after work. My only visit was very satisfying. Plenty of food in servings.. nice pace, nice atmosphere.
Service needed to be better ; wasn’t busy , overall server was good and knowledge. However drinks took way to long
