We went here last night, Saturday, May 21st 2023, as a celebratory dinner for 2 of our friends who graduated college and received a promotion, never did we expect to run into all of the problems that we did. Firstly, the service was very poor, we sat for nearly 20 mins before anyone came to even bring us water, we then ordered our food, one of our guests said she needed more time to go over the menu, the waiter never came back. I had to go get her from another table to let her know that the person was ready to order, she then took her order and went to get out shots and drinks, we were then told that they had ran out of Espolón blanco so we asked for Espolón resposado, they said they had it and we waited for her glass and beer to come, again, it never came, 15 mins after waiting, I found the waitress at the bar and advised her that we were still waiting, she said she’d grab it and head over. About 5 mins after that, the person who ordered LAST, meal came out, the other 4 of us were still waiting on our meals. Lastly, when our meals came out, my friends rice and beans had a large piece of plastic in the food, we then found the manager who told us how apologetic he was but it was a very busy night for their establishment, nonetheless, busy or not, objects that are harmful and not edible should never be in food, especially not at an establishment. We frequent one of their other locations at Short Pump and have never had these issues, it is extremely unfortunate and disheartening that our first time at the Canal Walk location was such a poor one. We will not be going back.

Service was so-so. Forgot two main asks, chicken for salad and side orders. We were seated by 6:00 but was told it was 6:01 so we couldn’t take advantage of happy hour. They auto ad 20% tip which I wouldn’t have left.

We stopped in for lunch with some family from out of town to celebrate my boyfriends graduation. They were thoroughly impressed with the food and the creative decor. It was the perfect spot to take them. The food is always banging here !!!!!! 10/10 recommend

Booked outdoor table but we got there they had bumped us because a large party asked for it. No communication with us. Sat indoors but too loud with my older mother with us. Someone had said great margaritas (no mix just tequila and lime juice) but my margarita had mix in it and waitress had no idea if other ones did not have mix . Drinks and ships for &100 (4 people) and we we outta there. Cool location but loud and overpriced.

So we should have known reading the reviews, but the customer service was by far some of the worst I have had in a LONG time. We totally understood Cinco de Mayo would be bad, but we only saw our waiter 3-4 times all night. Unfortunately, we ended up having a 2 1/2 hour meal. The food was AMAZING, sitting outside next to the canal was really beautiful, but the service was so poor it was the only thing we will remember. We should have used the "text" waiter which normally I dislike, but our personal waiter was so bad I would have rather used the "text" to order feature. After being seated, our waiter did find us and we ordered drinks, appetizers, and our meals. The appetizers came out fairly quickly and THANKFULLY we had ordered drinks before going into the restaurant at the outdoor bar because that is all we got for a while. Our appetizers came out fairly quickly by someone other than our waiter but no drinks. Next came our meal by someone other than our waiter, but we requested more chips for our salsa and drinks....which we did not get. The waiter did stop by and "checked in" shortly after the meal arrived where we asked for our drinks, some extra chips and extra napkins. 40 minutes later our waiter stops by again to "check in" where we asked for our drinks, extra chips and extra napkins again. 10 minutes later napkins. 20 minutes later we finally flag down a DIFFERENT waiter for chips and drinks. He brought chips right out and said he did not see our drinks on our ticket. He kindly put them in...and so we wait. 30 minutes later after speaking with several different waiters and a manager we get our drinks. Our original waiter does make another appearance where we requested dessert to go and checks. Checks came back out fairly quickly where 20% gratuity was already added in...not happy, but whatever. 45 minutes later...my dessert arrives and I leave not coming back! Sucks because the food was SO GOOD!!! The service...SO BAD!!!

Location and atmosphere was great!! Very festive location on canal walk and great outdoor seating. Had a reservation. Had to wait a few minutes to be seated. No big deal. Went to the bar to get a drink while we waited. The majority of beer choices, both draft and bottled, were not available. Were seated shortly after getting our drinks. Sat at our table for maybe 15 minutes without being approached by our server. I went back to the hostess to check in on the situation. Server finally came over. We ordered appetizer and entrees. Had another significant wait before our chips, salsa, guac and queso appetizer arrived. Main entrees didn't arrive until closer to 9. Food was okay. Chicken enchilada had very little chicken in it. Bowl contained vegetables (radishes, cauliflower, peas) that were not mentioned on menu and seemed out of place in the dish. We will not be going back.

Great food, drinks, and really nice outdoor patio area. The service here was so slow and the opposite of attentive. It took us 2 full hours for drinks, apps, entre & desert. 10 minutes to be seated due to "cleaning up tables" outside, despite appearing to have multiple clean open tables. Every single course and drink took 20 min or more to be delivered. It may not help that they force a mandatory 20% gratuity... does it disincentive good service?

The service was not the best. The waiter didn't know about the restaurant week menu to help benefit Feed More he was very slow and inattentive. Food was good and the atmosphere is nice but extremely loud. The poor service and an automatic 20% tip taken from us is why the 2 stars.

My and my friends went here for prom and the service was amazing! Reservation was easy to set up and the patio is a beautiful spot to view the canal walk. Our server, Sarah, was a sweetheart and had no issue dealing with a bunch of teens. I would definitely go again, especially with the service we got.

This restaurant is a favorite of ours when we are in its area of Richmond. The atmosphere is fun, and the food is usually very good. Service is good, too. This time, though, I will say that their house margaritas were a bit bitter, and their chicken in their chicken fajitas was very spicy - covered in spices and pepper. However, we still enjoyed ourselves. Always fun at Casa del Barco. :)

The decor at Casa del barco is really cool! We loved our food aside from some of the chips being too salty. The carne asada burrito was very spicy but delicious! We were disappointed only because several of the bar drinks we wanted to try (blackberry basil margarita, sangia, and another fruity drink) were not available due to missing ingredients. Otherwise we were very pleased and enjoyed our meal.

I am shocked that this place has a rating above 4. It was hands down the worst Mexican I’ve had. It took a long time for the food to come and when it arrived it just wasn’t good. I thought my tortillas were from an order of mu shu pork at a cheap Chinese take out. (I would have enjoyed more) the Three Amigos featured salsa that tasted like it was from a can and something that did not resemble ‘authentic queso’. I was not impressed unfortunately.

Had dinner last night with another couple, and we went there after having an amazing meal there last October. This time, everything was just ehhh, besides the chips, they are outstanding. The margaritas are really nice as well, not too sweet, and ask for tahine on the rim. Service was terribly slow, and not due to being overly busy. We waited and waited for essentially everything we ordered. When our dinner food arrived, it was nothing like the quality in October. Beans were tasteless, rice was dry, enchiladas were hard on top, almost too cruchy to cut, and they should be tender. 3 of us had that dish, and we all agreed it was below average. Now, they have gone to a 20 percent tip, and the service was slow, like, really slow, so, what is a person to do besides write a review and choose elsewhere next time? Sad.

We had a great group birthday dinner here. The host was accommodating, the service was a bit slow, but very friendly. The food was creative and tasty and the cocktails were delicious. We all loved the great location on the Canal Walk with a fun, lively interior space.

Happy hour rules should be noted online. The happy hour was only for bar area that only seated 12 and if ordered from table, full price was charged. Most Mexican restaurants includes chips and salsa but not at this location.

First of all, I am from South Texas and are use to TexMex…. Guacamole was good, Queso was different! Shrimp tostada and fish tacos were good! We never really know who our waiter was..different people waited on us! There was an automatic 20% gratuity added….told us ahead of time! This was on the canal….spooky area….had to climb lots of stairs to get to street level on one side!

Staff seemed confused when we showed up for Sunday brunch around 11:45am. We were one of a few others at the restaurant and were looking forward to the new brunch menu. They advised us that they did not have any more coffee and we were totally understanding but bummed. We then proceeded to order. I got was encouraged to try the breakfast tacos and my boyfriend ordered the chorizo omelet. Both items had no flavor and were very bland/underwhelming. I rarely ever write bad reviews but I felt especially sad about our experience considering how delish Casa used to be when we’ve had dinner/lunch there in the past. Sigh.

Very good good as always. The server was very nice, but I feel as if we were not attended to adequately as I had to flag him down to get him to come to our table at all. I saw that the place was busy and understand that it is difficult to juggle that many tables, but it appeared to me that each of his other tables near us were getting much more attention and did not have to wait 45 minutes to order. Obviously, I will go again, but am just slightly irked at the experience as a whole.

Happy National Margarita Day! We expected it to be very busy for the celebration, so we made sure to make a reservation. The staff were wonderful and accommodating- even with the very busy night! My husband had a house margarita and I had the Yassss Queen Marg; they were both fantastic. We also highly recommend the Carne Asada Fries! Thank you for a great night out!

We recently ate outside at the Casa del Barco. Everything about our first experience there was outstanding. All food was well prepared and very tasty. Portion size was excellent. Appreciated that they made you aware of 15% gratuity already on the bill when it arrived.
