Lovely neighborhood place. Amazing food. Great service
We love Cafe D’Alcase. Amazing food and atmosphere, and the staff is very friendly and always remembers us.
Those rolls at the beginning set the tone for a fantastic meal. Tres magnifique!
Excellent choice of Food items and excellent service. Conveniently located at corner of 2nd ave and East 88.
Arrived for the pre-fixe pre theater menu option (between 5:00 and 6:00PM). Place was mostly empty on a Wednesday evening, so it was a quiet, non busy time. First waiter came to table, and was initially attentive, however did not know very much about the menu, what the soup de jour was for the day, or how certain foods were prepared. Appetizers were good, I had the pheasant sausage with sauerkraut which was delicious and the right size for an appetizer. Entree arrived, and I decided to have the farmhouse chicken which was very dry and served with mashed potatoes. Overall, not very satisfying meal. Am not likely to return.
New to this neighborhood, so delighted to find a semi authenitc French Bistro. for a mid-week lunch. Good menu with light to full meal options. We had omletttes, salad + fries. Service is friendly.
Great, friendly, accommodating service, which has always been the case in my experience. Food good -- burger is better than good, but the pear in the salad was not so fresh. Overall overpriced or I would visit more regularly. I will also only go again when outside table are available as the din inside makes it almost impossible to have a conversation.
Food was inedible. Mussels had no flavor and the broth tasted like dishwater. Another entree was scallops. Three scallops! Last entree was salmon. The salmon was fine but the accompanying lentils were mushy and inedible. Waiter brought complimentary cookies when told about problems.
Thue made seating a death scene. We waited 15 minutes with a reservation. The food was definitely mediocre. I have never written a review before, but this restaurant was a nightmare.
Delicious meal. Great service. Great value during restaurant week.
Very nice vibe, great food! The service was also very good.
Great place to spend our wedding anniversary.
Asked for a quiet table for a first date and got it. Had the prix fix for NY Restaurant Week. Pork belly, mushroom rosato and cheese cake all great. Had a bourbon hot toddy. Very good. No downside overall. Been there 3x and never a bad experience.
Service was pretty bad, and it wasn’t busy. Way overpriced for the quality of the food.
Food was wonderful and the atmosphere very French. We could have been having dinner in Paris!
It was our first time to dine there and we were very impressed with both the presentation and taste of the food we ordered.
The maitre s was very welcoming and pleasant. We will definitely go back. Very highly recommended.
Good restaurant with good choices. We had the salmon, the seabass and the steak frites. Seabass was OK, not great.. Hanger steak was overly seasoned, and way too salty.
We also ordered the mussels (main dish) as an appetizer, and the cold cut board, those two items were great.
They burnt the fish and they burnt the soup. You have to make sure if the chef is off that day because he has no decent backup. I have photos. Can I upload?
Food and service were all excellent. The prices are a bit high, by my standards, but portions are large and the staff made it easy to share. My only disappointment was with the Hugel pinot gris wine--it was unexpectedly sweet. Since this wine is the least expensive (though not cheap) and listed first on the Alsatian wine list, it is likely to be chosen often; and its sweetness is not good with the cuisine.
A wonderful neighborhood restaurant which doesn't disappoint. Friendly, good food and generally a comfortable standby to return to again and again.
Met friends that we hadn't seen in a while, so really wanted to talk. When we arrived at 7:30, it was SUPER LOUD, so we were concerned that it would be hard to converse. We actually weren't seated until about 8pm and once we were seated, noise level was a bit more comfortable. By 9pm restaurant had emptied out some, so noise level was much better. Staff wanted to seat us at a table large enough for 6, which some may like, but it was too big and especially with all the noise, we were not pleased with that table. Unfortunately we had to wait until 8 to get a table that was more appropriate. That said, the food was very good and our server was attentive. We had a nice cabernet, endive salad..super fresh and tasty. The salmon rillette wasn't a favorite, quite salty without much flavor. Celery root soup was good, but also could have been more flavorful. Mains were delicious...skate, steak frites and coq au vin. Desserts were fabulous. The crepe was unusual..incredibly light and fluffy. Cheesecake and molten chocolate hazelnut were also delicious. Would go back just for the desserts! So, after a bit of a rocky start, we were very happy with our meal and would definitely recommend.
Food was terrific and service was fine after initial rush to order.
Quite noisy, but would go back to try other menu options
Really nice. Our table was in a great spot- not too lousy! Food was delicious. Service was good.
The food was awful. Over priced. Crowded. Service was neutral. Won’t be coming back.
Real french food from the old days.Shades of paris
This is our favorite place!
Food was delicious, I felt bad that I couldn't finish all of it. I do wish we weren't seated next to the wait station (their computer was right next to me) so there was a constant flow of traffic next to me.
Fabulous choice for French Bistro Food in Carnegie Hill! The coq-a-vin as well as the chocolate gateau was simply sublime. The waiter and host provided excellent service. My drink was always full. Truly, a tremendous value for Winter Restaurant Week 2019.
Dinner can be noisy. We had lunch and it was fine. Food and service are very good.
The prix fixe menu was a great deal. Large portion of a decadent Alsatian tarte with raclette cheese. Perfectly cooked risotto with butternut squash and mushrooms. Topped off with a chocolate fondant with out of this world chocolate sauce. Great spot!
Enjoyed a pleasant lunch prior to attending a performance at the 92nd Street Y. Enjoyed the celery root soup and skate which were on the restaurant week special menu. My companion enjoyed the omelet which came with a salad and fries. All were well prepared and delicious. Will come again when in the area.
Love the ambiance of this place ❤️ the food and service was great & I can’t wait to come back!
We went for Restaurant Week. Excellent choice, large portions (really, too large!), fresh ingredients. Only complaint is that it was pretty noisy, but I guess that's true of most bistros. A nice neighborhood place. Wish it was in my neighborhood!
A great neighborhood restaurant with outstanding Alsatian cuisine. Food is reliably great. I was worried when the host seated my partner and me next to a large party that I was afraid would dominate our waiter’s attention, but he was excellent ... appropriately attentive, and our meal progressed at a perfect pace. Great beverage selection of wines, beers and ciders. And hearty food. Highly recommended.
Had an early dinner before an event at the 92nd street Y. Very nice atmosphere, enjoyed our meal, will be back.
Great spot , always solid .
The noise was load, hard to carry on a conversation. The duck was excellent.
Fabulous! The Coq au vin was delicious!!
