Food seemed like it was trying TOO hard to be unique/different. Not great taste and odd arrangement. Should have more staples (especially for the fish dishes).

Our overall experience was excellent.
Service was impeccable and just right. Staff respected our wishes to add minimal salt to all plates.
The truffled shrimp and lobster au pain and Ahi tuna with foie gras appetizers were perfectly seasoned and simply delicious. Barbequed pork belly and loin and grilled sturgeon prepared to extraordinary standards and scrumptious beyond belief. We finished with Baked Alaska and Tempura Custard which were amazing and a perfect ending. One of the best restaurants in town.

I really like the crisp atmosphere of the restaurant which mirrors the crisp flavors of the menu items. The service was excellent including the valet who went above and beyond to haul a cab on a very cold night. The experience was first rate from start to finish.

Went out with my girlfriend and did the tasting menu, they accommodated around her lobster allergy flawlessly without affecting the integrity of the course. Great service at the bar, our bartender Gwen was great. We felt taken care of for sure!

Went on a Sunday night with a friend. Had the pork belly, 2 cocktails (crane dance + an off menu drink) and the namelaka for dessert. Overall, I’m not angling to go back ASAP and I’ve been to similar restaurants with a more diverse menu and/or more worth the $$. In addition, the stark white layout wasn’t really my taste.
However, the flavor profiles were very good and the servers were incredibly attentive.

A class act with friendly demeanor.

The food here (we did the tasting menu) was outstanding; they certainly earned their star. We were lucky to have a table by the kitchen, but the rows of close tables and loud ambience was hardly ideal in my book. The service seemed a little impersonal, but the pacing and presentation of the food was top-notch—as were the cocktails and wine list. Overall, 5 stars because the food made up for any other imperfections in terms of atmosphere.

We had a wonderful experience at Blackbird last Sunday evening. The winter menu we enjoyed included a starter of fish with schmaltz, and duck breast, and sturgeon as mains. All these offerings were beautifully prepared and innovative. Our server, Heather D., was attentive and professional throughout. She offered us a lovely white wine to accompany the appetizer. We choose a wonderful half bottle of burgundy to accompany our mains. Perhaps because it was a Sunday, the restaurant was less noisy than it sometimes is, so we relaxed and enjoyed our conversation. This is a restaurant well worth a special visit.

We were there to celebrate my niece’s engagement. The food was very good. The staff was bee accommodating as they moved us away from the door to get away from the draft and also provided us with a glass of champagne each to start the celebration.

Will definitely come again an will opt for the tasting menu next time.

The food is outstanding. The lamb entree was one of the best I have had here in Chicago. My only gripe is that the tables can be a bit crammed. You have to move the tables just to get up and go to the bathroom. Other than that...great dining experience.

Lunch at Blackbird is an impressive expression of flavors and textures that will have anyone desire more once visited. The prix fixe menu has a modest price tag of $25 and allows the guest to customize his or her experience at this 20-year-old Chicago establishment. It should be known that Blackbird changes it menu seasonally, which allows for continued growth and shows respect for the environment.

Shrimp confit with kohlrabi, cashew and chili oil is served in a small bowl that packs a punch of flavor and textures. The flavors complement the natural sweetness of the shrimp, which shows up in each forkful.

The main dish is a chicken sausage tossed with a Sardinian pasta called fergula sarda and served with bok choy and grapefruit. It is one of those plates that you could just keep eating, if you had a big bowl and did not pay attention.

For a dessert the sorbet is not to be shunned, as it is bright, creamy and delightful. It is also a healthier choice, which is well paired with a sweet Hungarian Tokaji. Exquisite!

this meal is in the top 5 of most delicious meals I've ever eaten! The staff is attentive and service is smooth. The wine pairings were perfect, every bite of the meal was worth eating. Even food I'm not usually a fan of (duck, beef tartare) was made in such a way that I could eat a giant plate of it right now. And the food I knew I'd love (fish, dessert) was the best version I've had in years. Was a great way to celebrate and I can't wait to go back.

Just when you think your meal couldn't get any better, it's time for dessert. Nicole Guini is the best pastry chef in Chicago. I don't care if you're full, order all of the desserts. Seriously.

Excellent - there could have been some creme fraiche, yogurt, or fat to go with the smoked cabbage app to cut the acidity of the dish, but otherwise superb as expected.

The service at Blackbird is delightful - they were accommodating to some small dietary restrictions I had, were attentive and thoughtful, and made us feel well cared for throughout the night. The food is really interesting, with creative flavor pairings like grapefruit + lamb that we enjoyed trying, but probably wouldn't be a repeat visit for us at the price point even if we lived locally.

Went on a last minute vacation to Chicago, and managed to get reservations for dinner here.

The atmosphere was friendly, but not too loud. The servers and bar staff were impeccably dressed. We arrived a little early for our reservation, so we had a drink at the bar (both were winter specials and we both really enjoyed our drinks).

After being seated, our server brought out glasses of champagne (for anniversary). We decided to go with the 10 course tasting menu and the wine pairings. As most of the tasting menu was poultry or fish, the wines were predominately white. I've never been a huge fan of white wines, but our server Heather really recommended them together. And boy did they deliver. Everything was perfectly paired. Trying the wine before, during, and after a course really changed the flavor profiles you experienced.

Heather was very sweet and did a really awesome job explaining the wines and the dishes, as well as why they were paired. I used to work with a sommelier and learned a little about wine tastings/pairings, and am by trade a geologist, she even knew what kind of rock units affected the mineralogy of different wines (color me impressed!).

Overall fantastic experience, we will definitely be going back the next time we're in Chicago.

Also, thank you Heather for the amazing experience!!!

I love the lunch prefixe menu here which made me curious about the tasting menu. I recently went ot eh Winter 2018 Tasting Menu and while everything was prepared exceptionally, I wasn't wowed by the ingredients used. There were 2 dishes that used squab which was not my favorite and the duck dumpling course was a huge miss for me. I would suggest trying the spring or summer tasting menus as there may be a better selection of ingredients. Besides that, service was impeccable. The space is crowded, but they did a good job of sorting tables out so you didn't have 2 tables right next to each other that had the same reservation. I really appreciated that!
