Even with a reservation, it took over 1.5 hours to be served our meal. 30 minutes for the order, 60 minutes to be served. Service was adequate when we had someone’s attention, the manager had no sense of urgency - when we said we had tickets to the theater in a half hour, it still took ten minutes to be served three meals - a salad, a side dish and a brisket burger. They forgot about us and offered no apologies for being forced to take our dinner TO GO so we wouldn’t miss our show. 110 minutes from the time we entered with a reservation. Unacceptable. However, the band was good and loud and the catfish tenders were light and tasty. HUGE disappointment.

Someone was smoking weed in the front door as my 11 year old daughter and I walked in. Then we waited 50 minutes after being seated for our app. Food was mid.

I am utterly disgusted by the lack of planning, preparation, and recognition demonstrated by this establishment, particularly given its close proximity to the annual Susan G. Komen event. This is an annual event that should be anticipated, planned for, and properly staffed—not treated as an unexpected inconvenience. Our party had reservations for 11:30 a.m. and waited over an hour and a half for our food. At 1:45 p.m., after an unacceptable amount of time with no resolution, we kindly requested that our food order be canceled and our beverage tabs closed. No customer should have to spend that much time waiting for a meal, especially after honoring a reservation. While there was clearly a staffing shortage, the greater concern was the lack of effective management. After several requests from our party, Melissa, the manager, finally came to our table, offering excuses rather than accountability, solutions, or any meaningful attempt to repair the experience. Even more concerning was her apparent lack of knowledge regarding the annual Susan G. Komen event, despite stating that she had been there for 11 years. That response raised serious questions about leadership, operational planning, and the establishment’s ability to prepare for predictable increases in business. I do want to acknowledge Jason, our server, who was apologetic throughout the ordeal. It was evident that he was dealing with circumstances largely beyond his control. Unfortunately, poor management and inadequate staffing likely affected his ability to provide the service he intended and may have cost him tips he otherwise would have earned. Frontline employees should not be left to bear the consequences of management’s lack of preparation. I would not recommend this establishment at all!

We love this restaurant. But, yesterday they had a large party reserve and so everyone else suffered bcs it took 50min at least to get our food (there were only 4 of us). Otherwise I recommend this place.

Venue and service could not ask for anything better. I think we went out a tough time being lunch. Barbecue was average at Best sausage was unbelievably hot and best I’ve ever had. Gumbo was fantastic as well as the salmon salad. everything else was pretty much average. Would love to give it a second chance at dinner hours perhaps listening to a band.

★★★☆☆ We’ve been coming to Black-Eyed Sally’s in Hartford for many years, but our recent visit for my wife’s birthday was disappointing. The food was still good, but the service felt less welcoming than we’ve come to expect. We had reservations and asked to move from our assigned table to a booth farther from the noise. The hostess appeared annoyed, walked us over, tossed the menus onto the booth, and left without acknowledging us. A simple, friendly response would have made a big difference. Our server did a normal job during the meal, but when my wife presented the birthday coupon the restaurant had sent her, the server also seemed visibly annoyed. There wasn’t even a “happy birthday.” We tipped on the full amount before the coupon, as we normally would, but the interaction left us feeling uncomfortable rather than appreciated. As longtime customers, we feel the service has declined. We still enjoy the food, but we hope management puts more emphasis on making guests feel welcome and giving returning customers a reason to keep coming back.
