Chef John Mooney’s restaurant gets its name from General John Bidwell, an Army general in the 1800′s and founder of Chico, California. An avid farmer, he developed the Bidwell heirloom melon, a gold medal winning flour, and California’s first commercial raisin crop.
The Bidwell menu features Chef John Mooney’s signature dishes with Southern flair and flavor including: Gin & Tonic Salmon with Caramelized Cauliflower, Crispy Deviled Eggs with Homemade Ranch Dressing, Lobster Taco with Avocado Tomatillo Salsa, and Suckling Pig. Pros: food is delicious and affordable with some great options. Great location in the market and free parking in the market parking lot Cons: uncomfortably hot, like sweating in the booth hot. To the point dinner was not enjoyable. They need to rework the AC in there. It was bad enough I wouldn’t go back.

I've been here several times and came again last night before seeing a movie. Service was quite slow and un-crisp. Noise level was very active due to young families in the main Union Market hall. Food was very good. Unfortunately, the AC wasn't keeping up in this space and the temp was approx 82 inside which wasn't ideal. I'll come back and hope they get their mojo back.

Girl’s Day Out included crafting and brunch in Union Market neighborhood NE DC. Chose Bidwell because they take reservations, inside seating, large windows, menu variety and great location. Giving high marks on all and the food was delicious. We’ll be back.

I started at the bar with a tasty bourbon sangria. Once my party arrived, we ordered a delicious variety of things. My favorites were the fried oysters and the fettuccine with rock shrimp. Our server Jazmyn was awesome. As delicious as the food was, there were QC issues: 1) salad had only one pecan and undetectable dressing. 2) the fettuccine lacked any cherry tomatoes (but it did have sufficient amount of shrimp). Overall, we had a great time and will return again.

Good food, attentive service - with the band our frond and the in house music on it was quite loud. The cocktails and apps were delightful though- the pizzas are nice and I enjoyed the mix of classic and interesting menu items

Food keeps getting worse. It’s a shame. This restaurant used to be one of our favorites but we stopped going because the quality of the food was not that great and service so so. But we tried it again and were disappointed. With so many options in the union market area, they really have to step it up.

This is gonna be a lot to read!! This was my first time there. Everything was going great. Food, ambiance, great service.. until. the bill came. We booked for 5 but ended up being 4. that was fine... they adjusted. We got a table by the door. The cold was too much for 3 of them. Im a big guy so it was ok for me.. they moved us.. Awesome.. thank you. We got a better table.. (we chose the second table as well. it was still by a door.. we didnt know. still a better table) So we ate and it was sooo delicious) the waitress was so sweet and kind.. We ordered 3 endless mimosas. i ordered 1 mimosa for me, because i was the driver.. and.. ive worked in a restaurant.. i knew not to take from the carafe of endless mimosas. then we get the bill.. There was a bill with my $9.00 mimosa and then $25.00 endless mimosa and then $75.00 mimosa. i found our kind waitress and told her that this receipt is wrong. She let us know that someone said the drinks were flowing and that i was charged too. I told her kindly, I def did not drink more than my little one glass and ROLL the tape. i drank from that one glass with no refills, because as a server before.. I know they would try to get me. i asked them to roll the tape.. after about 5-10 mins.. the charge was removed. but. it wasn't the best experience. I totally know that people try to get over.. but I didn't .. If you need to watch us carefully, be right about it.

Okay experience. They did give us a happy hour menu at an area where happy hour didn’t apply. As we ordered we read off from the happy hour since we picked from those option. It wasn’t until after we had ordered that they informed us that those prices didn’t apply where we were sitting. Not a great practice to do that since having that information ahead of time would have influenced our decisions.

Friendly people, just average food, good location, but i probably wont go back. It was just ehh. It was just a bunch of little things, the water glasses smelled, the napkins smelled, we sat near the door and had a cold breeze on us from the door being opened and closed. The food plating was unimaginative. Lackluster. We had to wait around for appetizer plates… they also have a gratuity charge and credit card fee if you don’t pay in cash.

Stopped by for drinks and a bite but our drinks were delivered after we had finished our meal - a little bit of a buzz kill. The manager attempted to right the wrong with dessert but did not comp our overpriced drinks that took half an hour to receive.

The quality and taste of the food was marginal. The bottomless mimosas were good however. I had a reservation but waited 15 minutes to be seated, even though the restaurant was virtually empty. The server was attentive was we were seated.

Our waitress was great, very friendly and comical. She was very swamped though, we had to wait some time for drinks and our food. Food was great, highly recommend the friend chicken and the pizza.
