A 30-seat full bar and lounge add to the convivial environment, where guests can enjoy live music, an all-Spanish wine list, sherry on tap, dry cider, and Spain’s cocktail of choice, gintonic.
The airy, urban Mediterranean interior features California bay laurel tabletops, custom Costa Brava Blue-colored leather chairs and booths, Moorish light pendants and brass table-lamps, a private dining room for parties and events, and seating around the open kitchen with a custom hearth, the heart and soul of Bellota.
What Insiders Are Saying
Some of the best Spanish food in town is at Bellota, at the bottom of the Airbnb building in Soma.
The food and ambience was excellent. Our food waiter did a very good job as well. I gave 5 stars for the restaurant and our server.
My only problem was with the bartender. We had drinks at the bar before being seated at our table. The bartender seemed very put out when I asked questions about the cocktails and what he recommends.
When I asked if he could put less honey in one of the cocktails so it was not so sweet his response.
“So you want the cocktail to be made the way you want it not the way we make it”.
I said i didn’t want it to be too sweet so if he can just put less honey when making it. He repeats the same thing very sarcastic “so again, you want the cocktail to be made the way you want it not the way we make it”. So I said yes.
I’ve never had a bartender be so rude and put out by making a simple request. Usually all the bartenders I’ve experienced are so nice and even say they can make adjustments to the amount of sweetness.
Great ambiance with delicious Spanish foods and wines.
Great ambiance and the food is mostly delicious, but for the price you pay, I expected better.
Very loud. Not a great place if you don’t eat seafood or pork. But, the paella was great.
Cozy ambiance, lot of cocktails options, great Sangria and handful of vegetarian options.
The live music sets the stage for an enjoyable ambiance.
It is very authentic for Spanish cuisine for tapas and paella.
Wonderful! I’ve been here a handful of times and love the vibe at the bar and lounge.
In the past we only went for dinner, which was always great. This time I was meeting a friend for lunch. When I arrived they said I am the first to arrive and sat me across the bar. In 25 min I got a call from a friend asking where I am. They put her in the booth and did not tell that was I was there already. Sad, as we did not have time to order what we wanted.
Excellent service. Food was good
The ambience is great, nice decor and quite cozy. The music was also good, however too loud, so we couldn't listen to each other. The food was fair, the paella wasnt anything special, actually, quite dry... The dessert, the one with chocolate and coffee was great. In overall, a fair experience, but I would not come back and also not recommend it, because of the loud noise and because the price versus food is not worthed.
New Year’s Eve dinner
Amazing and delicious, as is usual
Everything was divine. Great service and amazingly delicious food! The pork paella was to diieeeee for!
Rock solid dining experience. Every dish well thought out and served with the right amount of decorum.
There are two seating areas. One is on the bar side and the other is on the other side of the kitchen. The noise level is quite high. Then you add in live music from the bar and it’s almost impossible to have a conversation, at least on the bar side.
Food, drinks and presentation were outstanding.
As a vegetarian, picking Spanish for dinner can be a risk, with all its chorizo and octopus. But Bellota's menu contains a wealth of plant-based options that are among the most delicious dishes I've had. The star is the Setas Paella, which balances hearty wild mushrooms and squash with sweet persimmon and quince. Another winning tapas was the cumin-spiced cauliflower. Skip the manchego flight, which comes with just six small slices of cheese. But do order the carajillo with dessert for an unbelievably smooth combination of espresso, mezcal and brandy, along with the churros.
Amazing jamón ibérico de bellota - worth the price and truly melts in your mouth. They also cut and serve to order, so each piece is fresh instread of being dried out. Tapas were amazing and just the right portion. The "hearth" menu is extremely overpriced however, compared to other items, and IMO not worth it compared to the tapas menus.
Loved the ambiance and vibe. We had the paella and I found it not to be what I had hoped for. I make this dish at home and understand the complexity of the dish. I think mine is much more flavorful and the crispy rice on the bottom of the pan is much better. I would return there and try their other tapas,
Great food and energy in the restaurant. A bit expensive but worth it!
The only restaurant in SF that I know of that serves authentic Spanish vermouth from a cask. I went to Madrid in November and fell in love with their vermouth served as an apertif.
Modern room with lively atmosphere. Excellent food. Must like paella
This was our second time for dinner at this restaurant. The first time was awesome but this time was less than awesome. While our server was outstanding, the food did not measure up to our prior visit.
We started with the charcuterie plate which was very good but pricey at $45. We then had octopus which was extremely good but the two of us were served only three very small bites for $24. Not worth it. Next was the 16 oz T-bone. For $55, another dish not worth the price. We ordered it rare and it was not served that way. For the price, we felt that we could not sent it back to the kitchen. The New York side of the bone was delicious but the filet side left a lot to be desired. We could not really tell what it was.
This is a place that we want to enjoy as it has a nice atmosphere, great gin and tonics, and we love spanish food. However, after this experience coupled with the high prices, we will probably not go back.
Noise was over the top! Could not even hear the waitress!
Birthday lunch. Crazy busy with Christmas parties. Great waiter from Madrid. Food excellent. Wine great. Can’t wait to get back again.
The open kitchen look is just as welcoming as seeing your mother cook a meal back in the day. Gives more of a family feel instead of imagining a struggling sous-chef getting yelled at by a self absorbed chef behind closed doors. My kinda place.
Our waiter was great, but the service seemed a bit slow. Absolutely LOVED the brussel sprouts and salads we had before the paella, but the paella was a bit bland. Also had a fabulous Spanish white Alborino.
We enjoyed everything we had, to varying degrees. We had 5 tapas: brussel sprouts, cauliflower, the bellota, tortilla & bravas. Bellota, Brussel sprouts & tortilla were very good. Bravas were nice and crispy & tasty. The cauliflower was OK. We had the combination vegetarian & seafood paella. It was excellent. Lots of food, there were 4 of us. We had leftovers for lunch. Service was attentive. The noise level was too loud for us.
Our table was seated 30 minutes late. Bar server was clueless about wine. Host and manager were indifferent towards our wait until I requested some compensation. Staff’s overall attitude was off-putting.
Very fun, upbeat atmosphere, friendly staff, great paella’s, super good sangria. My husband and I love to sit at the counter and watch the chefs cooking. Music a bit loud for having a conversation.
Vibrant ambiance, attentive and expeditious service, sangria and tapas at the bar pre-dinner both delicious, menu an authentic and creative taste of Spain...and a well curated list of Spanish wines presented by a knowledgeable somm.
The food was mouth-watering delicious!
It was very hard to narrow down decisions of what to get. It is a great place to share.
I may never forget the taste of my steak.
It rivaled any steak I have ever had— including when I Argentina.
The cocktails are creative and fantastic.
What spoiled our visit was the rudeness of the servers who try to take your dishes
Before you are done. That’s just classless.
I was holding on for dear lien to june Astro’s Con Leche despite firmly saying 3 times that I am not done! Finally the waiter said at 8:00 that his shift was over could we pay.
I am sure he would have gotten his money no matter what.
This is no McDonalds; in fact, the food is among the BEST, but for me - a teacher not an owner the owner of Airbnb(ten building in which it is housed) a $250 is no CUNY Mo change so have some classy service please.
Incidentally I heard a waiter tell another couple that they must order all their food she’s and can’t order course by course!
Isn’t that an oxymoron for a Tapas place?
Our group of 4 ordered a delicious sampling from the tapas menu and were dazzled by every dish. The waiter was delightful and very helpful. We were so happy to discover a new spot with street parking for our pre-theater dining and will definitely be back!
The food here is fresh and innovative. they do a wonderful job with cooking vegetables. the cauliflower and the brussel sprout tapas were espcially well cooked and spiced. We have ordered the lamb dish in the half racion in the past. It was delicious and cooked to our liking, medium rare. This portion was plenty for a good taste for 4 people. We started with a little bit of a skewered octopus, mussel, sausage and a vegetable which was truly inspired. Our waiter was efficient and helpful. Oh and the cocktails were great and also offered some interesting twists of flavors. I have been mourning the closure of Contigo in Noe Valley. Bellota certainly more than fills the bill!
A great recomendation from a friend and I'm so glad we tried it. Great bar and looked like some wonderful cocktails on the menu although I had wine that evening. Would be a fun place to have some cocktails and enjoy the live music. Dinner was fantastic! Our waiter was one of the best I've had in a long time. He was knowledgeable, very friendly and very funny. The food was delicious! We shared about 6-7 tapas dishes and they were all excellent. Bellota has a fun vibe, great decor and service, all topped off with delicious Spanish cuisine. I highly recommend this spot if you're looking for an upbeat Spanish dining experience in the city.
The food is fantastic. Servers were very friendly, but the whole place seemed disorganized. We had a reservation for 8pm, but did not get seated until 8:50pm. Servers would disappear for stretches of time. We will return simply because the food is that good, but hopefully they will better manage seating and service.
Excellent comida española. Las croquetas were off the charts. Brussel sprouts were also delicious. Great wine list but it was expensive all and all. Great spot, I look forward to eating at Bellota again
Wonderful food and staff taking Spanish favorites to the next level. The potatoes bravas were better than any I have eaten in Spain
Wonderful atmosphere and delicious food at Bellota!
