2nd time there was just as good if not better than the first time. Grilled prawns, babaganoush, lamb neck shwarma and the coconut tapioca pudding was beyond excellent. The pita and hummus is the beat we’ve ever had too. A must try!

We arrived on time for our 8pm reservation and the place was crazy busy and loud.
There is no where to wait to be seated, and the bar service was virtually non existent unless you were seated there.
We tried to get drinks for 25 minutes and finally after being pushed and shoved for way too long, I returned to the hostess desk to continue the wait for our table.
So, after a 30 minute wait we were seated (thank God), and from there things got better.
The service is great, the food very good but you can not hear anyone say anything!
Couldn't hear the waiter, couldn't hear the guest we were with.
They need to spend a few bucks and fix the rawness of the patio space which may help the noise.
95% of the diners are young hipsters, and I felt old and uncomfortable in the environment actually.
But the food and the service were worth it as our quest is a foodie and loved it.

Food was good but a little pricey. Serving sizes were small but each one was pretty. Was a little surprised with all the hype..thought it would be outstanding! Rather go to Bestia!

Bavel was recommended to me by a friend who was a frequent diner there. They asked if you like the essence of Bestia but with a Mediterranean menu - Bavel is it. The food was HANDS DOWN delicious. I would get the duck hummus over and over again. The fresh pita breads and the handcrafted cocktails alone are worth the trip to DTLA Arts District. Service was awesome and ambiance was casual. Patrons are your typical downtown area clients but I never felt out of place or uncomfortable. A bit on the pricey side but would definitely come again!

The restaurant food was ok, but the staff made the experience not that great. Friend and I were put at a table across from each other and the room was very loud and he could not hear me so he came to sit on the bench seat next to me. A staff member came over to tell him to sit back in his seat as if he was a child, he is a grown ex banker who is suffering from a brain tumor and that's why it was difficult for him to hear. I JUST THOUGHT IT EXTREMELY RUDE IN THE WAY THEY CAME AND SAID IT TO US. The waitress wasn't that friendly and I had to keep asking them for water. Extremely overpriced for the quality of the staff.

Favorite restaurant in LA. Chef Ori is a genius! I came here the day it opened. Me and my friends were trying to go to Bestia but as usually it was really packed so after walking a bit in Arts District we somehow arrived at Bavel and it was their first day... everything on the menu was insane, from
drinks to food, everything!

There is nothing negative to say (maybe... hard to get reservations!). The staff was wonderful and the food was perfection - each dish unique. I want the harissa the olives were covered in in a jar. I'd happily eat the tender lamb again and the persimmon and cucumber salad. The pate appetizer was smooth and delicious; and the bread! What a wonderful way to treat an out of town guest! Thank you Bavel.

This was my second time visiting Bavel, and my first time was far better than this most recent experience. I was excited to show a different group of friends the restaurant as we had booked our table a month in advance. While the indoor interior was stunning with lots of greenery, the restaurant was very crowded and we were placed outside in the covered outdoor terrace. It was a Thursday and the music was way too loud, to the point we could not hear our waitress speak and were unable to even hold a conversation amongst the four of us.
As for the food, I was disappointed with the cost of the basic dishes we were ordering. The hummus was average and the amount of pita bread we were given was sad. When we asked for more bread, we were charged $4 extra for ONE pita bread. We had to return the in-house marinated olives we ordered as they were inedible. The food was either too salty or too spicy, I ended up leaving with a massive stomach ache. Overall, the dishes were very overpriced for the quality and the type of food we were ordered. As for dessert, when we inquired about the Strawberry Sumac and Sweet Cream pastry, we wanted just a side of pistachio ice cream without the other ingredients. They said they were "unable" to give us a simple scoop of ice cream because the amount of ice cream they make has to be the perfect amount for the amount of ingredients they prepare. This explanation was absolute BS. The service throughout the night was good, but toward the end we definitely felt our waitress give us attitude.
I had a very disappointing experience at Bavel, and now believe it is very overhyped and overrated. Unfortunately, I will not recommend nor dine at this restaurant again.

service was good.
We were seated in the overestimate patio for dinner which felt like an empty hotel banquet hall, exile! That ruined the experience!

Bavel continues to be an incredible restaurant and experience. The food is amazing, unique and mouth watering. There is an originality to Bavel that deeply affects your taste buds and makes you happy. Truly remarkable flavors, smells and textures. The service is great and the main room is cozy, warm and happy. It's just a great place.

One wish: stop pushing the outside patio during 50 degree nights. It's a bit stressful to make a reservation a month in advance and then be told you may have to sit under heat lamps in a patio (although covered) that just isn't made for chilly nights.

Can't wait to go back soon..........

Chose this restaurant based on reviews by Johnathon Gold and others. Excellent food but quite spicy. Several in our party could eat the cauliflower dish. Appetizers are amazing as is the fried pita. Loved everything.

We were seated on the patio which is quieter but doesn't have the same ambiance as the rest of the restaurant (They could improve on this). However, the food and service were excellent. We especially enjoyed the mushroom skewers and the licorice bon bon dessert. All the dishes were excellent!

While the appetizers were exceptionally good (hummas, babbaganoush), the cauliflower dish was overpowered with seasoning (and I like spicy food), the entrees are very expensive, the chocolate donut desert was lacking in flavor. Given this is top rated restaurant in LA right now, I didn't feel that it deserved that rating. Having been in a similar type restaurant in London where the food was exceptional, this food was so-so (good, but not great), and each of the dishes seemed to be trying too hard to be something through so many flavors (sometimes too much) or beauty. Wait staff were pushing too much food and asserted if we didn't order it all at once that our order would get backed up in the kitchen. We were 4 people and ordered 5 small plates and that was more than enough. If you order main course, you only need one small plate, but then you miss out on the adventure of trying many different things. Place is super noisy, so come prepared to eat, not talk, or if you talk you're going to have to shout or use your "out-door-voice"!
