Everything was overall well, especially service and food. The only thing was that I made reservations requesting indoors and the hostess put us outside directly facing the sun. I felt that people who didn’t have reservations and were waiting had better luck and priority seating away from the sun. The server outside felt so bad because she saw me sweating and moved us.
Already recommended it to people. The food is exquisite. The service is beyond stellar. If I were to be fickle, I’d think the setting is too bright, but it never was a problem.
Fun LA scene restaurant with great service and amazing food. Every dish was excellent! Loved the interior design
Fantastic meal and wonderful service from the moment we checked in to the very end.
We'd been looking forward to trying Bavel as we love the food at Bestia. Unfortunately while the food was excellent, as expected, and our server was exceedingly gracious and attentive, the deafening sound level was atrocious. It's hard to enjoy a meal, regardless of how well prepared, when you feel as if you are dining in the middle of a factory floor. One of the most uncomfortable dining experiences in recent memory. We'd intentionally booked an early table (before the restaurant filled to max capacity) and requested a table on the outdoor patio (b/c the indoor dining room was even worse). We'd asked both the hostess and our server to turn the music down/off. They definitely did not turn off, and if they turned down, it made no difference. I should have measured the volume because it likely exceed OSHA recommended levels!
Bavel did not disappoint, the food and service were perfect.
Our only complaint is that even coming as early as 5:15, they could not seat us next to each other, even when we noticed other tables where that might be possible. We were seated opposite each other, but saw other couples seated at tables for four, next to each other. Especially in a somewhat busy atmosphere, it feels more intimate to sit next to your partner. It was our anniversary after all! To be fair, we were offered the wire seating at the chef's counter. Ouch. We had a great time, regardless, and our waiter was AMAZING.
A true culinary experience!!! Everything we tried was amazing. The service was great and so was the ambience. Only thing I would change... too much garlic incorporated with every dish, let’s tone down the garlic and include so many other ingredients the restaurant has to offer.
A little too pricey for Mediterranean food that was good but not out of this world. We will save our anniversary dinner for Bestia next year.
Great food. Wonderful ambience. Thanks to everyone at Bavel for helping us celebrate our special occasion.
Everything was great! It’s too loud in my opinion but that seems to be the trend these days. The waiter was fantastic, really guided us and helped us with the tricky choices. Too many good things to choose from! One of my favorite restaurants!
Everything was delicious!
My husband and I's experience at Bavel was incredible. We were first seated at the counter top table, and although we found it overwhelmingly loud the server graciously moved us over to the bar and was very empathetic which I appreciated! Aiden was our bartender and he took great care of us at the bar! Tom noticed we were drinking wine and casually made his way over to chat wine with us and made some EXCELLENT recommendations to pair with our food. On top of that the FOOD was out of this world. I can not stop thinking about that Harissa shrimp, we will be back OFTEN!
The food was excellent and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. Our server was very attentive and offered the perfect suggestions on the menu.
Food and service were outstanding. Certainly one of my favorite dining experiences in Los Angeles (and we've been to most of the downtown restaurants).
It was very good. Food was excellent, but limited choice of meat. Lamb neck pleased the meat eaters, but lamb neck, just the sound of it is pretty sad. There was also a beef tagine that looked good, but what about folks who want veg heavy?
Also, there is a lot of good Mediterranean in this city. Is it worth the annoying difficulty of getting seats here?
Wonderful service, but the food did not live up to the lofty expectations. Nothing was bad, but nothing was also that much better than other middle eastern fare. Loved the fresh baked pita, but the rest of our meal was better than good, but not quite great. Wonderful desert and drinks.
i don't recommend. no lo recomiendo.
Went for a friend’s birthday dinner and this place exceeded my expectations! The oyster mushrooms and prawns were ammmmmmaazing. It’s been days and I’m still thinking about it. Service was super attentive but not hovering as well. Five stars. 😊
Will be back as soon as we can make another reservation.
I'm an older (60+) diner than fancies a quieter more intimate setting. It is better to dine outside for less noise. Drinks were good and service was on par. Some of the menu item names are not prepared exactly the same as their eastern Mediterranean namesake dishes (e.g., Shawarma) so that was a bit misleading in choosing the meal.
ahhh another over hyped restaurant in LA. We ordered decent amount of dishes. Food wasn’t bad but nothing wowed us. Nothing was memorable. It was overpriced as well. We didn’t have high expectations to begin with, yet it didn’t reach our expectations. Not sure what’s the hype about. Aside from taste of the food, services were attentive, but they forgot about my drink, forgot that we ordered oyster mushroom kebab. Watch out about the additional 4% health surcharges, not sure what’s that all about, yet you can opped out of it.
Food is great. Our waiter (2568 Ayers) was pushy and kept insisting we needed more food. Even after we said we were okay, he kept suggesting more dishes.
The sommelier was also very aloof and seemed annoyed when we had questions. They kept our bottle of wine on ice, but barely came by to top our glasses up. We were constantly looking for someone to help us get our wine.
The other wait staff was friendly and helpful.
I love the ambience and food, too bad about the subpar service. They need a reminder that dining is not just about the food, but the experience as well.
High expectations as a big fan of bestia. Didn’t think the food lived up to its sister. Flavors were eh, though quality was good. Even at 10:30 had trouble getting a table in the main dining area (with a reservation) and ended up at the bar. Wines by the glass were not great and overpriced. And the food prices were on par with bestia but taste was not. Waiter also forgot something we ordered (write it down if you can’t remember, no one is impressed that you didn’t write it down if it never comes) but we didn’t remind him because at the end we were underwhelmed with everything we had gotten.
Bavel is by far one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles. The food is amazing and the service is impeccable. We tried a number of items on the menu and they were all great. Can’t wait to go back!
Delicious food and wonderful ambiance and energy! I felt it was too pricey for the amount of food you receive though. Definitely recommend for trying at least once!
I can honestly say best meal this year so far for my friends and I! Thank you for sharing this with everyone!
Food was amazing. Host was friendly but server was horrible. I dine out a lot and this is one of the worse I have ever experience.
Wonderful experience! I come so often I’m the mayor on swarm!
Sat on the patio, which was very nice. We loved all of the food except for the fish, which didn't have much meat on it and we thought was pricey for that reason. But the spreads and dips were especially tasty and well plated and the different breads were incredible.
The experience was marred a bit by the fact that once we had gotten the bill and were trying to hand our waiter our credit card he said that he had forgotten to add our two drinks to the bill (a beer and a cider), so he took the bill back and we could see him reworking it for at least five minutes. It seemed an awkward and ungenerous end to a good meal.
Just WOW. Just Go.
DUCK 'NDUJA HUMMUS and BABA GHANOUSH to start were excellent, the latter being a bit smoky and the best we have ever had at any restaurant.
GRILLED PRAWNS and OYSTER MUSHROOM KEBABS were delicious. Prawns had a bold, spicy flavor. Mushrooms were meaty and delicately seasoned.
SLOW ROASTED LAMB NECK SHAWARMA and WHOLE DORADE were fabulous. Portions were also very large.
We've already made reservations for a return visit. ENJOY!
We had a wonderful meal. Everything was impeccable. Would return in a heartbeat!
We had dinner at the bar—-amazing to watch the bartenders craft specialty drinks all night long. We drank the Idris & Nebuchadnezzar on the menu and a Sazerac & Vieux Carre off menu—spectacular cocktails! The service at the bar was impeccable—they will offer you suggestions on food and drink if you want. We read Jonathan Gold’s review and knew what we wanted going in. We ordered the duck hummus , pate (best of the night), oyster mushrooms, lamb schwerma & chocolate donuts— all delicious! This was our first time there to celebrate our Anniversary, and we will definitely come back. Make reservations as it was packed all night!
Amazing food. Great ambience. Great location. Great service.
Everything was amazing! From the food, service, to ambiance. Absolutely loved it!
Amazing food and VERY friendly service. We booked our next reservation mid-dinner
Bavel is simply phenomenal -- from atmosphere, food to service!!!!! We had a celebration there and were seated in a wonderful banquette booth with plenty of space. The indoor room is large with high ceilings and lots of light.
Service was spot on. Since it's all family style our waiter gave a roadmap for ordering enough but not too too much. Cocktails arrived quickly and were expertly prepared and visually beautiful. The courses came out with excellent timing....enough time between to enjoy each course, but so much that there was a lag. Every request no matter how small was attended to with a smile.
Food - well, it's delicious!!! Can't wait to go back. The variety of spreads, appetizers, and entrees is excellent. The spices and flavors were all delicious. House made pita and bread came out steaming hot. Beautiful scallop crudo came out chilled. Each dish was thoughtfully conceived and prepared. Bavel is a truly festive place to have a meal or celebrate an occasion.
Amazing place and great service.
One of our our two favorite restaurant in Los Angeles, the other being Bestia, both by the same husband/wife team of Ori and Genevieve. Both execute their food, service and space at the highest level with outstanding results..must try!!
The lamb neck shawarma is LEGIT. Definitely the unbutton your pants after you’re done type of meal but one of the best I’ve ever had. EVERY TYPE OF BREAD is unreal!! The hummus is also great
