The Bay of Biscay, aptly named for the Basque peoples who have inhabited and fished the waters for several millennium is a rich, pastoral land open to a wild coastline, brimming over with the stuff of food-lovers’ dreams. The Basque approach to cooking -- unfussy, yet insistently demanding only the best ingredients -- is our inspiration. Chef Johnny Anderes and his team cook food simply, allowing ingredients to shine in a direct way. We encourage you to relax, put down your phone, & enjoy your company. Good music will be playing, with good things to drink. Hopefully you're sitting with someone you care a great deal about, and when it comes time to leave, we hope you feel better about the world and your place in it. Topa!

No outside food or drink is allowed. We're surprised we even have to say that, to be honest.

We went late - after theater - so we just got a selection of lots of smaller plates. Everything was delicious and the service was friendly, helpful and efficient. Nice wine too.

Really amazing experience and a great team. We did the chefs table tasting and my wife and I had a wonderful experience. You truly feel special throughout the courses and feel the passion that chef Johnny puts in each course. He makes time to explain each dish and takes time to get to know the customers pállate. One of the best deals we’ve done so far and will be coming back for sure.

Cool space, pricey food which was good but not excellent. Service was mediocre as waiter seemed annoyed with us. Called ahead to see if they had vegan options and host said yes, but the vegan options were sauteed carrots and squash and a small salad. Waiter seemed perturbed we asked a lot of questions

Overpriced.
1 small slice of cheese = $10.
A tiny (SUPER) tiny miniscule jar with a few mussels = $10.
Bread was not fresh & dry.
Especially for the location we thought it was overpriced...

We had a terrific experience. The food was outstanding, as was our server. My only complaint (if you call it that) is that the tables are quite close together.

I love the decor of Bar Biscay! We had a wonderful server who gave us great recommendations. We were surprised at the large plate size, we had the salmon and the portion was small to be shared between two people, so we ordered two side dishes and they were big portions. But the white sangria they had was really good.

Everything was outstanding. From start to finish. Service and food. I’m older so a little loud for me but I’m sure it’s just my age. I had something from each section of menu including deserts and bottle of wine. And bill was very affordable. I’ll be back especially on a Wednesday!!! Oh and general manager is very personable.

Bar Biscay was great! I went with a group of girlfriends (5 total) and I thought the service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive while still respectful of our conversation, let us take our time with ordering and sit after dinner without rushing us out the door. The food was very good, cocktails were great and the atmosphere was cozy. I would definitely go back!

The service was friendly and really just impeccable - waters filled instantly before I needed them. Staff friendly and good balance of making us feel comfortable and giving privacy. Food had some impressive flavors. Gf said the steak was the best she’d had IN HER LIFE

My boyfriend and I had an absolutely excellent experience at Bar Biscay on Saturday, February 9th. We sat at the end of the bar and every member of the staff was incredibly gracious, helpful, knowledgable, witty, and attentive. We would like to return VERY OFTEN! Not only was the personal experience wonderful, but the food and wine were outstanding. We could not have been more impressed with the timing, presentation, recommendations, and interesting flavor combinations served to us. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

I have been wanting to come here for some time and was finally able to book a reservation for my husband and me. They were on top of my shellfish food allergy making accommodations and substitutions for menu items that had shellfish in it. The tables are a little close together and was difficult to have a conversation but the food and service were fantastic. Definitely want to come back and try their summer menu!

Loved our first time at this local neighborhood spot. Focuses on seafood and was really good. Loved all the french wine and the waiter was very knowledgeable. We will definitely go back.

interesting preparations and presentation--extemely pleasant staff--not at all dull and repetitive of everyplace else--some relation to basque origins--reasonable prices--decent sized portions---i had some quibble over preps not being precisely as i might have preferred, but all were interesting and unlike other restaurants

service was amazing, food was delicious. we followed our servers recommendations and everything was good. I would say fit for foodies, decent wine list for a small place and great cocktails. Anchovy toast was tasty, the king salmon was probably some of the best I've had and the coconut dessert was yummy.

Bar Biscay is a gem among the $35-40 per person (with a bottle of wine) restaurants throughout Chicago. It is impossible to walk out of there without having a good time.

Food was great - service was meh. The first thing the server told us was that we had to order our meal all at once. At the end of the meal, when we told her we were still hungry, she told us we could order off of the dessert menu (not what we meant) so I guess you really do have to order all at once. She forgot my drink order (gin and tonic) and came about 10 minutes later to fillet the fish - we had already taken care of it. Before the night even started, I spoke to the person who confirmed my reservation regarding my husband's issue with diverticulitis. We then explained this to the server, who decided he was allergic to nutella and we ended up with a caramel banana crepe instead of just leaving off the whole hazelnuts. Thankfully the food was tasty- some of the best sweetbreads I have ever had - but the service and the communication was poor.

We had a fabulous anniversary dinner. The food & service was outstanding. We sat at the Chef's table for the 5 course meal with wine pairings. Look forward to returning again soon.

This was a rare date with my husband and we had a great experience doing the 5-course chef tasting menu. Getting the bar table and watching the kitchen was fascinating. The chef and server explained every course and cocktail pairing very well and each dish was very tasty. We don’t often do pre-fixe menus but this was very approachable with a Spanish - American Tapas casual vibe. We really loved the whole experience.

It's one of our favourite restaurants in the hood! Food is amazing - we were never dissapointed: a lot of fish, seafood and dishes are prepared as a mix of tastes - really pleasurable experience. First time we got there for a causual dinner during the week day and we were just amazed by the ambience (i love the light there), service quality and of course - food (one of the places that you can get razor clams served in a more classic way - not buttered and deep-fried and that is so unique!) Next times we were with friends and big group: people visiting Chi - they also said that the dining there was a unique, pleasant experience! The service is really making everything to make it even better experience - we start also feeling there even more welcome since they already recognize us and chat for a little when we come over. The place is definitely a must to visit!

We expected it to be good and it was better than we expected. The monkfish was the best we've had and the oxtail was as well. And thought service might just be adequate but it was terrific -- timely, gently friendly. Also, a bit more atmosphere than we expected. It was great.

I likes MFK very much, so we decided to try Bar Biscay too. The food was delicious! I am a big seafood lover. The environment was enjoyable, I like the lightness to the ambiance. Staff was very friendly yet professional. We were seated close to the door, so it was a bit chilly at times, it’s December. But the staff apologized for that. I guess they are working on a solution. If there is one thing that could change for the better, in my opinion, the staff could interrupt the conversations less. If we need anything else we would ask. I am not big on frequent checkins if all is o'right. Other than that, fine and fun place to go to, and the food is worth it!

The best sea bass I’ve ever had. Do the chefs table if you can - it’s so fun and a great value for the variety you get and the wine pairings!
