What Insiders Are Saying
Babbo is still the best place to feel good in this town.
Best restaurant in New York City!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had dinner at your restaurant Saturday night had a lovely time all of the food was very tasty and the service was off the charts it was great my only criticism is the size of the portions just wasn’t enough to satisfy my hunger
Babbo has been a reliable "go-to" restaurant for us in NYC over the years, they are perhaps slipping a bit but still are great. On our most recent visit we had the pasta tasting menu and wine pairing; some outstanding high notes but also some surprising quality control issues out of the kitchen. Nevertheless a great value compared to other NYC venues at this level.
UNBELIEVABLE MEAL with IMPECCABLE SERVICE!
Appetizer (octopus) and main (trout and skirt steak) were fantastic. The olive oil cake for dessert was very dry, and when the manager asked if we had enjoyed it (it was his recommendation), we mentioned that it had been dry. We were disappointed it remained on our bill. Otherwise the service was good.
Wonderful service, terrific top-floor setting for a birthday, and of course, delicious food. Kudos to our excellent waiter, who was well-informed and sensitive to our guest with food allergies. We were all delighted to be treated to such a fine celebration at Babbo!
Food was good. Music was ridiculous.
Lamb was cooked unevenly. I ordered medium rare, but two were rare. Service was efficient, if a bit cool. Tables are very close together. Food is high quality but ambiance and food preparation was a bit lacking for the price. Recommend for a business dinner, not for a special occasion.
Excelente comida y muy buen servicio.
Taking good friends for lunch
What used to be one of the best pasta restaurants in New York is now at best average. The new management team has failed in keeping this institution relevant with the departure of Mario Batali. The food is mediocre at best the service has gone down hill. Extremely overpriced subpar pasta and entrees.
Overall a nice dining experience.
One suggestion would be to tone down or eliminate the background music.
We found the volume of the music being played very distracting.
The music being played, coupled with the ordinary noise level of the dining room, made it difficult to carry on a conversation.
I can’t even begin to describe the disappoint in the food . The pastas lacked any flavor , as did the appetizers and mains. I would skip going here if you want a high quality meal. I brought my in laws here hoping to impress them. The service was attentive and we valued only that.
Tasting menu was okay, some highlights but some let downs. Kitchen was inconsistent with speed and lamb dish was cold. Overall a good meal but with a couple of dish errors, wrong dish, ingredient substitutes without service acknowledgment, I would not return. Sommelier was excellent and the highlight of the night (server very good as well) which is why I give service 5 stars.
Really good pastas. Service a little slow at times
Perfect, as always. Let’s hope it remains a neighborhood mainstay.
One of our all time favorites! Amazing hospitality and very accommodating with allergies (specifically nut/peanut). One of the few places I can actually ENJOY dessert :)
The service was outstanding-- regularly filled water glasses, excellent and clear recommendations from our servers, quick response to any requests. The food was also terrific.
Babbo’s is still ‘that’ restaurant! Had an early Sunday evening reservation which worked out great since we had some good waiter-time before it started getting really busy. The Garanelli pasta dish was my favorite and the beef cheek ravioli was a close second. We went with sharing the lamb chops as a main course and they were seasoned to perfection and tender. I will definitely go again soon!
The restaurant was fantastic, the service and food were amazing, unfortunately our neighbor was unaware that indoor voices were a thing and we were subjected to his (obnoxious) musings all night. Otherwise everything was perfect.
We hast a great evening with perfect food and a gorgious and charming service. We will come again
Could not have been more perfect and special thanks to the wine steward
Great ambience, FABULOUS food but being told by the waiter that we couldn’t have additional Parmesan or salt was slightly irritating, luckily we found a waiter who obliged. Also, a carafe for $50 should work out to more than 2 glasses of wine.
Great, interesting food, give yourself permission to explore The menu. service off the chart. Mark was very attentive and helpful.
At 8:15 PM on a Wednesday evening, at an upstairs table, the noise level was so loud we couldn’t carry on a conversation. However, by 9:30 PM we were having a lovely time together. The waiter suggested perfect wines to go with our chosen dishes. He suggested we share a pasta between the four of us and we shared a salad and two entrees in order to taste several menu options. Our choices were terrific and the amounts were perfect for a late evening dinner. So glad we chose Babbo for our last dinner in NYC.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Not stuffy but yet elegant. The pastas are amazing and the entrees couldn’t have been better. We had the duck (breast rare, leg and thigh crisp) others at the table had lamb chops and beef tongue. Both perfectly cooked. The octopus appetizer was tender and delicious as was the buffalo mozzarella. All in all an outstanding dining experience.
Music was beyond annoying. Loud and heavy. My stomach was not having it with it. It was stressing to say the least.
Also hostess had an unkind attitude.
Food was good, sommelier was great.
Server made mistake on order and we felt like unattended our food took way longer than anybody else. There was gaps of very very long time in between meals. I like paced meals an d a bit of time in between courses but 20 min is too long.
The experience wasn’t good. Not coming back.
Superb! Mussels, octopus, mozzarella, gnocchi, and orecchiette all perfection
My wife and I live in the West Village and we occasionally treat ourselves to an amazing meal at Babbo. This time was another perfect meal and lovely evening. Service and ambiance are wonderful. This is clearly one of New York's finest restaurants
Beautiful and gracious arrive but I found the sizes of entree portions quite small.
Your asparagus appetizer was the best I have ever had and we had just returned from Modena and Parma.
We love this restaurant, however the sitting is crowded, especially downstairs and the rock music and level of noise , do not fit neither the ambiance, nor the food. It ruins the experience.
We brought my father in law here for his 70th birthday and it was a really special meal - he called it one of the better meals of his life. Everything was incredibly well executed and delicious and portions were surprisingly generous. The pork chops were the best we'd eaten in our life, the duck had both a breast and a leg with the most crispy skin and tender meat. We expected it to be loud as we'd been here before and remembered that, but by the time we finished our meal it was so dark in the room that we literally were turning the lights on our phone to see what we were eating - I'm not sure it has to be that dark for there to be ambiance?
Came back to Babbo after several years' absence and so pleased that we decided to go. The food and service were terrific along with that amazing wine list. Food was fresh and very carefully prepared. One guest had roasted red snapper served with vegetables. Having recently come back from Florida, this red snapper was as good or better than snapper we had directly from the Gulf. The server was helpful, friendly and gave great recommendations for wine pairing with our food. The ambiance was good but the music was unusually loud; maybe trying to give a little vibe to the room; no harm-no foul.
Slightly on the expensive side. Dishes were mostly delicious or at least good, but there was a bone in our food. Although we got apologies, I think this should not happen on this kind of a restaurant and only apologies are not good enough. Would have appreciated dessert/coffee as a courtesy. The service was swift, a tad arrogant at times. The music was quite loud especially at the end and not quite fitting the ambiance of the restaurant.
I loved Babbo! Service was great and the food, delicious. The best grilled octopus I have ever tried, several delicious dishes of pasta, and a jewel of a dessert, the chocolate hazelnut cake with orange sauce and hazelnut gelato.
The staff is very pleasant and welcoming. The service is on point. Enjoyed the food and the atmosphere
I usually do not write reviews. I visit a lot of good restaurants but I have to say. The experience I had today was quiet disappointing from a Michelin restaurant.
I have booked this reservation for 6 people today celebrating my girlfriends birthday. Everything went well until the wine server spilled champagne all over the table and onto the birthday person. Server did apologize and did nothing to fix it that much. It was quiet a lot of champagne he spilled as well but did not replace the glass or the bottle.
Later they bring in the desert menu out when they know we have bought a cake from another place and have asked them to make it a surprise when the desert time comes.
The server asked "we have a cake back there but would you like to see the desert menu?" And has ruined the surprise.
They still asked us to pay the plating fee and we can definitely hear them laughing by the bar (we were sitting right by the bar)
I hope the manager sees this.
I do not know what I have experience; if it was a form of racism or other discrimination when they purposely spoil the surprise and laugh right at our faces
I will not recommend this place to anyone as long as they decide to change the way they serve. As good service reflects the food as well.
Music at an unacceptable level. The food was not the same. Is there a new management there?
The problem with the noise level is not the people. It is the overly loud and just wrong music for a restaurant of this caliber. Otherwise we love the place.
Perfect meal and experience
