Avra Madison Estiatorio on 60th
Always love this place. Upstairs is people watching central . If you want a more relaxed / quiet setup, ask to go downstairs.
Food was good, but. They are a little snotty on their greetings a little to elistest. Loved the pita bread and waitress was helpful
Very attentive service once you get seated service is usually flawless. To get the table that we prefer is more often than not - a struggle. We dine here fairly often(when not traveling); very convenient and desired location for us. When I make a reservation I request a booth, today we were being escorted to the lower level at first; after my objection we got a table very close to the fish display. We politely accepted. But...I think it would be nice to stop giving us the runaround from the very start. We are here to have a nice meal, would be nice to be seated without haggling. Management needs to change things up. It’s more desirable to go where you are really welcomed from the start.
Went for my birthday dinner with my friend and overall a wonderful experience. Really enjoyed my seafood dish in a aesthetically beautiful atmosphere. Would definitely visit again.
We dine at Avra almost every week and today we decided to order the 3 course $29 lunch. The Greek salad, grilled salmon and Baklava were each excellent. My husband and I said it was the best piece of salmon we have ever eaten. And we love salmon. We were used to seeing Glena, the manager, coming to every table to say hello and check to make sure everything is perfect. They said she was on vacation. It is a good feeling having a person, besides the waitstaff, taking care of the dining experience.
My partner and I love to eat fish, yours was excellent!
Reliable good food. Nice ambience Fantastic prix fix lunch special. Great for celebrations.
The food is definitely overpriced but if you are on a business account it is a good midtown spot. Beautiful space, not the friendliest service. Food was good but they should be ashamed to serve the fruit dessert offered as part of the fixed price lunch - inedible.
I've been to Avra many times and always have a wonderful experience. We were seated in the downstairs area on this particular occasion and at first I didn't think I would like being away from the lively environment upstairs but it turned out to be very cozy and nice. Had the best Lavraki I've ever eaten but I wouldn't suggest the Langoustines... the size and quality weren't worth the price.
The ambience is really outstanding. If you like fish and seafood, you will find something tasty. The waitress was very well educated by explaining the origin and different taste of each fish displayed on a table.
You need a reservation for sure. The line was rather long at 8pm.
The service was impeccable and the food was delicious! A great dining experience!
Walked in 5 minutes early for a 10:15 pm reservation, they didn’t seat me until 10:45pm
I am a repeat customer because the food and service is great. Fun bar scene too for before dinner.
Such a fabulous time as usual! The food outstanding and the service impeccable! The manager Kristian always make us feel so welcomed and special as he does everyone, an asset to your restaurant.
Excellent birthday celebration!!!
Es caro pero la comida es buena, abundante y el lugar re lindo
We live in the neighborhood have been dining at Avra for a few years. The excellent quality of the food is consistent, the desire of management to make sure every diner is happy with their meal, and the very open comfortable atmosphere is obvious always.
Our meal at Avra ended up being a very fine experience. But it’s important to note that the main floor is very loud, has a long bar and is very scene-y. We were afraid we wouldn’t be able to talk, but we were seated downstairs, which is a lovely dining room and much less noisy. We were also pleasantly surprised at how good the food is. We had the octopus and the mussels as appetizers, followed by salmon, grilled shrimp and halibut main courses. The style of the cuisine, obviously, is Greek and there is always a chance that the other ingredients will overwhelm the seafood, but not here. The dishes were very well structured and the flavors all enhanced each other. So we are happy to recommend Avra, even though it is pricey, and will go back.
Ambiance is exquisite and food (especially the fish) is delicious, fresh and creatively presented. The service however is average, which is a shame given my first comment. The waiters, runners, bussers are inattentive and not well-managed. Oftentimes (this has happened on more than one occasion), there will be 5 staff standing around on a busy day and not paying attention. The staff acts like individuals in an isolated bubble, instead of working as a team for the same goals. If my waiter isn't there to answer a question or to bus the table, the next staff person you ask doesn't chip in to help. He pushes the request off to our waiter, who may take 10 mins to get back to a table on a busy day. The "every man for himself" mindset shouldn't be tolerated in a high-end environment. This may be more of a management issue than staff. Other than that, this restaurant scores high marks for food and décor.
Great food and service
Late lunch w clients, very nice
Fabulous brunch. Bloody Mary, Eggs Benedict, tuna tartar, olive cake. Delicious. Loved this restaurant for years. Never disappoints!
Rapport qualité prix intelligent plus service impeccable
Merci pour tout et à la prochaine
We walked over again from The Pierre for an early dinner at 6:45 and it is a treat not to have to take a cab........But a gaggle of young silly hostesses decided rapidly that an elderly lady with a cane would be better off in the "lovely fountain room" in the cellar, (sans fountain of course....which might be nice in the dead heat of a N Y summer )........As the large staircase could not easily be maneuvered by said lady, we were directed to a smelly freight elevator behind the scenes to the netherworld......which were a big mess.......Upstairs meanwhile, many tables were unoccupied. There was no reason not to seat us upstairs....
Downstairs we had a table for 4 right near the table with fish and crustaceans on ice.
Again I had Chilean seabass which was wonderful but not so the orange accoutrements, about which I had forgotten....My companions 'grazed' and were very satisfied with the food. The waiter was slightly arrogant.
The room itself was large and airy.........and it was actually better than sitting tightly squeezed upstairs with the noisy hoi polloi.
We have been dining at Avra since they opened over 2 years ago and it is definitely one of the best restaurants in NYC. The Greek salad couldn’t be fresher and tastier and the salmon cooked perfectly with delicious vegetables was excellent. It is easy to see why Avra has every seat filled with happy diners.
We went here for a family birthday dinner and were surprised by how fancy the place was, we were prepared for fancy but not that fancy. Either way, it’s recommended to dress up! Our waiter was very friendly and showed us all the fish options to order by the pound which was a unique experience, and the food and service was exquisite. We valeted at a parking garage 10 seconds to the right for around $30. If you’re looking for a special occasion’s dinner this is my choice!
Gorgeous space, extensive menu, very good food and portion sizes, attentive staff.
Great price fixe lunch in a gorgeous restaurant 👍🏼
Always fantastic, fresh Mediterranean sourced cuisine. Never disappointed with the octopus and all dishes served.
Absolutely fantastic experience at Avra. We had the early sitting for NYE and it didn’t disappoint. The service was amazing given it was busy; the food delicious and the restaurant and facilities were spotless! Definitely a recommendation from us!
We had book the table for do not have trouble about the location they are sitting us. But unfortunately, they put up us downstairs and was not fun. The sound, also, was louder.
That was my second News year eve have passed at Avra 😔. The first one I have no book and they gave me a nice table. Very nice one. Close to the bar and I got the sofa. Wow very cool place.
The food was delicious like aways!!!
I just visited Avra with my family and we all checked in our coats. Upon finishing dinner and waiting for our coats there was a very bad odor in the entrance area. When we received our coats from the coat check all of our coats had this terrible smell. The odor was something like a sweaty armpit and was UNBEARABLE!!! So disgusting, we could not even put our coats on. Very disappointed with the restaurant.
Everything is amazing as always! Thank you to our Server Sergio and the management team for taking care of us!
Honestly just a perfect restaurant!
Accueil chaleureux, j'ai tout adoré
Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
The lunch special was absolutely amazing. The food was delicious - we had the fist of the day, prepared perfectly. The dessert came with a surprise as I told them it was our anniversary - a fruit platter with Happy Anniversary in chocolate. [My wife does not eat gluten.] The service was perfect. The manager came over to see how we were doing. Even the coat check person was polite and friendly!! We will definitely be back.
Returned because of superb food and service. Recommend highly!!!
