    There’s nothing wrong with aviary but it just didn’t really work for me. I prefer places that give you a sense of privacy at your table and aviary is small and very brightly lit so you’re basically in a tiny cafeteria. The service was great and the food was all prepared very well but we weren’t fans of a couple of the dishes out of the five that we ordered (the cucumber dish is literally just wedges of cucumber with garlic and cilantro on top. That’s barely even a salad for $15). When we made reservations we got a response that said they had a five minute window on being late. We ran into traffic and tried to call multiple times but their phones weren’t accepting calls or voicemails so we ended up exactly 5 minutes late but the place was mostly empty anyhow so it didn’t end up being an issue. It just didn’t sit well that before we’d even gotten there it felt rather contentious to only give a five minute window where most places give 15, their phone works, and they give alternate options to contact them. Give the place a try if you’ve got plenty of money and no traffic.

    The happy hour was tight, amazing farm forward food, and friendly staff who helped us pick some great happy hour wines. Would definitely come back, sounds like the menu rotates based on whatever is in season / whatever they can source from the local farms.

    Cannot recommend Aviary anymore. The menu has shrunk by at least 50%, and prices have gone up significantly, since the last time I was here. Outside tables are noisy given the traffic on S Lamar. Our server pulled a disappearing act, we had to track down his colleagues inside to get refills and check on appetizer order. Total bill was well north of $200, for a modest meal for two incl two half flights of decent tho not notable wine.

    Food is good, but I was very disappointed that my Diver Scallops came with only two scallops. Two scallops for an entree?? I guess the diver was not very good at finding said scallops. I basically paid $38 for rice. Outrageous.

    This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. With a knowledgeable and friendly staff and great food and even better wine, Aviary always feels like a special occasion without ever feeling stuffy.

    We ordered oysters, chicken liver moose, tomato salad, and pork cheeks. Each item was delicious and the wine list was awesome. The Aviary continues to be one of my wife and my favorite date-night spots on South Lamar.

    We wanted to like Aviary, but they really need to try harder to create a menu and a space/place/ambiance that people respond to. As a wine bar, it has a tiny and not very interesting selection of wines by the glass. The menu was scanty and unappealing, and did not have even basic things like charcuterie boards that are featured on the menu posted on the website. Everything was pickled/fermented, and I mean everything. That would be fine if that's how they marketed Aviary, but there is nothing to to indicate that until you start to order and can't find anything not pickled. The service was friendly but desultory. They didn't really care if the menu was not as advertised and just floated away. It didn't really seem like anyone cared. The whole experience was kind of depressing.

    If you’re looking for an extensive wine list you’ll love the adventure here! The menu is small, simple, fresh and absolutely delicious. The service was attentive and help guide us through every step of the way. I’ll definitely be back!

    I love nothing more than ordering a few bottles of wine and 4-6 plates to share. Some of the dishes were left to be imagined but I did enjoy the carrots and smash burger… Wine list is extensive and sadly out of whipped feta and I didn’t see any burata on menu like I did online. Would come back but most likely for a happy hour.

    Came for the happy hour special but also ordered outside the HH menu. Everything was so delicious! Only feedback is for the short rib which came with only 1 rib and price was steep for the portion. Overall great vibes and great service. Will be back!

    Fun wine bar on South Lamar! Good happy hour deal (50% off bottles under $100), helpful server, and chill atmosphere. Food selection is a little random but the burger was good! Parking is fine, the lot fills up quick but there is more parking nearby.

    What a gem. Place was not crowded and servers were very attentive. Wines were so good. Every recommendation was fabulous. The food was shareable and each item better than the last. The tostada was delectable. Not rushed at all, we were able to linger over our final glass.

    Overall, they did a really nice job. The wine list is interesting and global, and corkage is allowed. The small courses were beautiful, creative, and delicious. One of the larger dishes we wanted was 86ed, so we ordered an alternative which was only OK - not visually appealing and needed some brightness. Finally we ordered cheese for dessert which took a very long time to come out and was simply a few cut wedges and a scoop of apple butter - very underwhelming. For such an amazing start to the meal, it was unfortunately to have it end on a lesser note. But overall, I think they are doing good things and will come back.

    Our second visit and we definitely need to make this place a regular hangout. The food is exceptional as is the extensive selection of wines. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable….what more can you ask for!!

    I love Aviary! The menu is small and changes often, but I can always trust the chef to delight with a unique collection of meat, fish, cheese and veggie dishes based on whatever is fresh at the time. And they are very cautious of allergies if your dining mate has any. On this last visit, I had oysters. They were dressed beautifully, in a way I’ve never had oysters. The amberjack tostadas and Asian inspired beef dish were also excellent. The wine selection and recommendations are top-both, too.

    We reserved a table outside without realizing how loud it was along Lamar Blvd. We decided to sit indoors at the bar, which was fine. Not a huge menu selection but everything we got was delicious! There is a faint smell of chemicals due to the nail salon in the same shopping center and the place is small so when it’s full, it can be loud.

    My partner and I had dinner here last night and, we had such a good time. They’re HH is 1/2 OFF wines under $100. We did a fun side by side tasting. And the food was incredible! The patio is super cute too. Grace was awesome. Super attentive and knowledgeable. Thanks for a great time!

    Such a unique food and wine menu. It's hard to find unique menus in Austin these days, and this is that "neighborhood" restaurant that isn't part of a larger umbrella of restaurants that rarely exists in Austin these days. I need to come here more often.

    A group of us were visiting from out of town and I discovered Aviary via Eater Austin. The server explained that the dishes are small plates meant to be shared. They were very accommodating for two of us in the group with dietary restrictions (GF and Pescatarian). We ordered several (5-6) dishes and most were very delicious. The one problem I had with the service is they would bring out a dish without any serving utensils. There were five of us and we didn't all of us to be dipping our forks which we're eating with into a communal dish. We repeatedly had to ask for serving spoons for each of the dishes.

    We had the same waitress as last time, Soleil, which was fun. The treat of complementary bubbly for our anniversary was a nice touch, thank you. Food is excellent as always, very creative, and the small plates are perfect size. You added more Italian wine options which we greatly appreciated. But we couldn't afford a bottle like last time. There was nothing under $80. However, we enjoyed trying a couple glasses of different ones Soleil recommended and that tiny caramel dessert was the perfect finish. Everything was so good I forgot to take photos of our food!! Your outdoor patio is beautiful!

    One of our favorite places! Always see some unique wines our their menu. The one from Croatia this time was a nice light one and we enjoyed the egg and carrot salad quite a bit as well.

    Not too bad but nothing too spectacular. A bit overpriced for what you get. I’d probably go back for happy hour but that’s about it. Enjoyed the playlist and the service was solid but nothing that I’d go out of my way to recommend. I’d give it a 3.7.

    Overall this place is exceptional, with some minor misses. They have a great selection of wine, though they don't carry a wide variety of liquor or beer. Food: Braised beef and aviary egg were excellent (I don't remember having anything this good in several years), beef tartare decent but slightly oversalted. Pasta was mediocre: pasta itself seemed to be house made, but the sauce was not a good match (too acidic and garlicky).
