Modern Australian
Arthur is Surry Hills’ newest neighbourhood restaurant. Headed up by Tristan Rosier, and named after his grandfather, the team aim to showcase our excitement for the local produce on offer through the constantly evolving set menu and all Australian wine list. Served to the table by our chefs, our menu is created so you can focus on your conversation and company, rather than what you’ll be ordering.

Continuing on with Tristan’s family tradition where his grandparents used to get everyone together, and like his parents do now, we now hope to do this for our community and be the place where you celebrate milestones, catch up with loved ones and spend time with those who matter the most.

Bookings essential.

Other than the noise and the uncomfortable bar seating (for some) it was exceptional.

The food was delicious. Just the right amount and balance. We were greeted and served by Rebecca and she was professional but also fun which added to our experience. I love the intimate and earthy ambience too.. actually one of my top pics for an enjoyable restaurant atmosphere!

Excellent innovative food though slightly disappointed that my OpenTable booking did not show I was a non red meat eater and subsequently the main course offering wa adequate rather than great. Our table of 4 thought there was way too much garlic in the food. LOVED the bonito dish and the bursts especially

Lovely setting and nice service!
Most of the meals were delicious but adaption to vegetarian and pescitarian options was pretty average. The eggplant and mushroom main for veggies was disappointing and simply removing muscles with no replacement lacks inspiration

It’s not often that I give 5 stars across the board but this was a ‘total’ experience deserving of it. I went with 3 others for a birthday celebration and from the moment we stepped in to the time we left, we were all taken in with the whole show - the food, service, ambience and the small details that make the difference between a 4 star rating and 5. Thanks Team Arthur - will definitely be back soon.

I loved the space and what Trsitan & the team have created, they have managed to capture the essence, where so many fail, of what makes a great restaurant and that’s the 'whole package’, where you could
sit all day and wish it was an extension of your own dining room...

The food journey was delicious, such great value and loved their wine list, with some of my favourite top Australian producers. Very easy to navigate, short, succinct and had something for everyone….

Bread and butter as an starter? Whole restaurant was rushed between 20.30 and 22.30 to get the shift done. You could see the whole restaurant getting every course at the same time, so maybe just a bit smarter serving the courses out so it is less noticible for the guests. Constant pouring of the wine without ever asking if it is oke. When we didnt liked a course which ofcourse can happen, the waitress though we just didn’t like raw fish. (It was just this particular dish we didn’t like). It was blunt instead of hospitable to handle it this way. No coffee or thee possible. Overall restaurant looked gorgeous, wine was good. Food was not on the same level as the interieur and wines. So I left dissapointd.

The only thing to note was the space between the tables, it felt very awkward trying to maneuver between tables without disturbing the patrons along side, to make ones way to the rest room. Other than that I am extremely happy to recommend your restaurant to anyone. The service was excellent, the variety of food really good and the wine to match equally good. Well done and thank you!

The food was perfect, every course complimented each other and the use of locally source vegetables was definitely the star of the night. Tristan was very generous with his time explaining the dishes and answering all our questions. Love this new local and it is definitely in my top five if not number #1.

This place will leave you wanting to back again. The service is exceptional and the food was spot on. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection. The flavours were delicious and something a bit different to everywhere else. The fact the menu changes to reflect seasonal produce is just more a reason to keep going back. Highly recommend!

Me and my girlfriend had an amazing dinner. The menu consisted of five courses that were all creative and deliciouanin their own way. Unfortunately the lady on the table next to me was very loud. But before i even asked the staff, they told us that they have a different table available im case we were uncomfortable with the noise level. This showed me that they take care of their guests very well. All in all a great experience

There is a lot to like about Arthur... pricing is amazing value for food and drinks and cosy dining fitout space is delightful (except for bugs) . But it’s not memorable, and hence a let down.
After reading all the media hype our expectations were high for a great seasonal dining experience with informed chefs bringing exciting dishes to table. After all, that’s the best thing about chefs coming to your table, getting the sense of their excitement for the created dishes. But..... other than main host (who was AMAZING and engaging on welcome and drinks!) the dishes were perfunctorily brought to table, delivery and descriptions that added nothing to that already described on menu (because the description is a list of ingredients, as is the plate... no surprises, no real high and lows... just great produce) and more just “put on table and walk away” kind of service from chefs.
After experiences like Peter Gunn at IDES, there needs to be more thought to who is bringing out food, to be enthused about the dishes and having thought to creating a dining environment (too many bugs all along wall and windows and in the air above table whilst eating) .... Being able to see plating and chefs from every point in restaurant, it felt more like a function centre plating where most dishes seems like assembly only. the tartare and fish dish were fantastic. The rest.... plain. Sauces too simple and dare I say it... bland. Not enough punch to make things memorable. Yes, ingredients AMAZING quality. Not enough of a great overall experience to rate the restaurant as a place you must go to. Nor is it so delicious that you would go back to try again.

The evening started well but got progressively worse...the dishes all started the taste the same - all heavily coated in a type of mayonnaise sauce which just killed the flavor of everything else. We requested(gave 4 days notice ) an alternative to the pork loin as we don’t eat pork. What arrived was this tasteless dish of egg plant and mushrooms- no flavor, no seasoning, no love. Just a plate of cardboard- it was actually shameful- I felt embarrassed for the chef.
To top it all it was incredibly noisy - you could barely have a conversation with the person next to you - mostly due to one large rowdy group table.
Overall incredibly disappointing- I was dining with an overseas guest - and I felt ashamed at the quality of the meal.
