From the OpenTable editors: When Alinea opened in a quiet Lincoln Park townhouse in 2005, it wasn't just a restaurant opening, it was an argument for what American fine dining could be. For two decades, chef Grant Achatz has created boundary-pushing tasting menus built on the radical idea that food should engage every sense, not just taste. Each course plays with expectation, and sometimes spectacle, turning dinner into something closer to live theater. That idea has made Alinea one of the most decorated restaurants in the country and proved that Chicago belongs at the center of the national dining conversation.

    The Gallery at Alinea invites you into an intimate, multi-sensory journey where fine dining meets moments of experimentation and wonder. Parties move through the evening together, encountering layers of flavor, surprise, and subtle theatricality. The experience will generally last three and a half hours.     The Salon provides individual tables for guests who prefer a more classic dining format. Diners enjoy the experience at their own pace with a thoughtfully curated menu designed to highlight our culinary perspective in a thoughtfully composed and slightly more concise progression. Please note: for guests participating in wine pairings we ask that all enjoy the same service option. Upgrades and additions are available onsite. **Only accessible by stairs. Depending on party size, the experience typically ranges from approximately two hours for parties of two to two and a half hours for groups of four to six.

    The front desk was particularly welcoming. No one was obsequious; instead everyone we encountered let their personality shine. With all the seatings they go thru, to hear each professional present each plate with a fresh energy was quite refreshing. It took me nearly two decades to get in. Well worth the wait.

    Exceptional experience. Theatrical without being pretentious. The food was amazing and the service was even better. Highlight for us was the kitchen cocktail.
