Contemporary American
AKASHA restaurant/bar/cafe features New American cuisine offering comfort food with big flavors and sustainable ingredients, for carnivores and herbivores alike. Chef/Caterer Akasha Richmond brings visionary cuisine to her own neighborhood eatery located in the historic Hull Building in downtown Culver City. Keeping the principles of sustainability in mind, the building's original steel, wood, concrete and brick arches were restored while the design materials pair with a seventies modernity to exude an inviting and lively atmosphere. The artisan bakery has both sweet and savory selections, as well as locally roasted direct trade coffee. The 20-seat bar highlights fresh juice cocktails, organic and premium spirits, beer and wine. The entire menu is available for catering or to go.

Great food and decor. Perfect service. Great DineLA deal. The only glitch was that we waited for 40 minutes to get a table even we had reservation

We went to celebrate our birthdays. It was also Dine LA week and we ordered off that menu. It was delicious and a great deal. There was also a wonderful jazz trio playing that we really enjoyed. Just the right amount of volume so you could still talk.

Adorable little spot in central Culver; parking was easy in nearby structure. Easy to make a reservation and upon arrival seating was prompt. Loved the ambiance, a bit dark and moody, but well thought out. The menu selection was great and the food was delicious. Would highly recommend for a date or intimate gathering.

I ordered the DineLA menu. The lentil soup was very good, the chicken masala was so-so and the lemon cheesecake could have had more lemon, and the cucumber aqua fresca was refreshing. For the price, perhaps a good deal, but I wish I'd looked at the regular menu instead of automtically ordering the DineLA menu. But, having said all of this, I love Akasha and think it is overall a wonderful restaurant.

I did not enjoy my time at Akasha. It was late brunch on a busy Saturday and the server seemed exhausted, the presentation of the food was sloppy and my chilaquiles were beyond basic. A tiny amount of cotija cheese, a half of a half chicken breast and a bunch of bland, saltless chips. No bueno. My partners burger was fine but also basic. The space is great and the scene was attractive and young but I’ve had more flavorful and satisfying food at El
Pollo Loco at 1/10th the price.

Akasha has excellent food and service. We went on a Friday night during DineLA and got an amazing deal of some top items on the menu. Well worth the evening! The ambience of the restaurant never disappoints either. Will definitely be going back and recommending to friends.

The food was amazing. I’m glad she is incorporating the Indian influence here. I do wish the industrial warehouse model for restaurants would go away. It makes places much too noisy to be enjoyable. We did get there early enough to miss part of the worst of the noise until a “girls night out” foursome was seated next to us making conversation next to impossible. However the food compensated for much of that. We had the chicken tika masala and the trout both of which were delicious.

This restaurant was recommended to me by my daughter but I can't believe I DROVE half an hour to get to this dump. Ugly restaurant, terribly loud, tables close together, the wooden tables don't even look clean. Food, strictly as "good" or bad as a hamburger joint: in fact my grandson had the burger. I had soup and a small plate: the food was OK but it's kind of thrown at you by your busy waiter and the place is TERRIBLY overpriced! It's the sort of restaurant that makes you want next time to eat at home!!

Been having trouble finding restaurants in LA that have the perfect mix of ambiance, great food from local vendors, at good value. Akasha is a winner. I'll be returning time and time again.

If I were to sum up my experience in one word it would be "mediocre." However, I like to provide more details.

As I have thoroughly enjoyed dinner here in the past in addition to the bakery/cafe I thought hosting my birthday brunch here would be a great choice. Rather than go with the "tried and true" nearby Culver Hotel, I wanted to explore the large brunch menu at Akasha.

Unfortunately this was a mistake.

Overall, the food was average to below average and the service, bubbly host notwithstanding, was subpar.

Typically when doing a birthday brunch (birthday anything for that matter), a complimentary desert is served. That didn't happen. One of my guests had to get a birthday desert for me. It seemed that the server could care less that it was my birthday and was the antithesis of personable.

Burgers: dry. Honestly I would get a better burger for 1/2 the price at Burger Lounge or even In N Out. Coffee drinks: served in puddles of sloppy espresso versus on a clean plate.

Some of the more breakfasts dishes came out looking better but were rated as okay by my friends.

I and my guests had to ask repeatedly for sides that were requested but when it came down to pay the waitress swooped in like a vulture.

The waitress looked irritated (especially by me, the birthday girl) at our overall presence.

The prices didn't match the quality of the food.

I could just feel the vibe of "we don't care about you." Too bad as I have a company and could very well do functions here, but, never again will I come here.

No thanks.

Very fresh, very good food. Cocktails are worth a try, but go for Happy Hour otherwise they’re $14-$16.

We did a family style ordering for our group of 6 and their dishes worked perfectly to share and sample a little bit of everything. Mushroom toast, seafood curry and Brussels sprouts were my favorite.

They had a special on a wine bottle that brought it down to a reasonable $32 a bottle which made it easy for our group to decide on ordering a 2nd bottle.

disappointed but then we expected too much from other reviews. I had two specials, the pea soup and a Baramundi fish. The soup tasted burnt and very ordinary. The Fish was suppose to be in a coconut sauce but was swimming in soy sauce with chopped green onions and other indefinable bland greens. Very unappetizing. My husband had a burger and fries which also was acceptable but below average considering we were in a nice restaurant not a fast food joint. They use folding chairs which was folding up on me as I was slipping through the back. They reluctantly exchanged one for the open back leather chairs which were equally uncomfortable. I have friends that recommended and love this place. Beats me.

My son and I were there for Christmas Eve. We were offered seating outside or in the cafe. Just the day before someone had called to confirm the reservation, it would have been appreciated if we had been told at that time about the seating. Wait person was slow in coming, she was working in the cafe and the full restaurant, so we were waiting quite a while to place our order and to pay at the end. The food was awful. Overcooked, luke warm, and not tasty at all. And they were out of champagne by the glass.
I've been going to Akasha for years but will not return.

We came hear looking for a festive but casual place for lunch and it fit the bill. We all had salads and we were all very pleased. I added the grilled salmon to my delicious beet and avocado salad and it was cooked perfectly medium rare to my exact specifications -- which is not common and made a strong impression. I will definitely be back.
